That's honestly the problem. Yeah I get experts and stuff are expensive, but most people just go "Oh yay, thing does thing now." and don't stop to set things up properly which causes problems. I'm all for DIY, but not for imprtant things. I know people who've gotten seriously injured because instead of taking their car to a mechanic they went "Pfft. I can buy the parts and do it myself." Guess what, they could not do it themselves.

Unless you're chasing him outside, or living in an extremely open spaced mansion theres no room to swing a bat in the doorway. You'd be better off with a butter knife. Anything you could push forward in a straight line rather then swing overhead and take out the chandelier.

As for the door lock, we mainly picked that one because of the Wink app. Say my Mom stopped by and I wasnt home yet and its too cold/hot to sit out front I can unlock the door for her from where ever I am. Also, have you ever gotten into bed and thought "Did I remember to lock the door?" Now I don't even have to get out of bed and just shout "Alexa, lock the door". Hiring a security company that installs door & window contacts, glass breakage detectors is better than a live camera. I understand that people hate paying for a service but it’s safer than this. I pay $95 quarterly and if anyone tries to break a window or get into a door an alarm goes off so loud it’s deafening. Gives you enough time to grab your gun and protect your loved ones.

    • @oznewton7481
      @oznewton7481 Год назад

I wouldn't say that a security system is better. They have their flaws as well. A loud sound might scare someone away. But don't you want to know who is trying to break in? Don't you want to stop the person before they break in? And yes, the monitoring company will call the police. But all of that takes time. Who's walking up to your front door right now? Did you know three people are in your backyard? Glass breaks, the alarm goes off, and they're already in your home. How many people broke in? Where are they? Surveillance systems are safer. They, too, have alarms, and they're built into the camera. You're wasting $380 a year on outdated services. And people don't only use cameras for security. They also use them for in-home surveillance. Like if you want to keep an eye on a pet, babysitter, or an elderly family member. Home security cameras have come a long way in the three years since this video was made. And I think the lesson here is not to be goofy with passwords.

The problem is most people don't know or understand the technology. I'm an IT Network Specialist, I have cameras around (outside) my house that do not connect to the internet. I have a surveillance computer that records everything and that can be connected to the internet when I'm on vacation. However all cameras are on separate networks, everything has to go through the computer that gets constant updates to keep it secure. Even though I take precautions, as unlikely as it is, getting hacked is still a possibly. Hence no cameras inside my home. If you don't know what you are doing you should never let your tech have access to the internet.

Yeah but it was done in the most intrusive manner. I get they need sensational footage for the show, but why confront owners with a camera pointed in their faces? The owners are probably already in shock and disbelief. Now you have a news camera in your face invading their privacy further when they already have to confront an issue with their own security cameras. Seems a bit hypocritical. Besides, it's just creepy and disrespectful to the owners.

It isnt. It is a federal crime but even the feds can't stop it. You don't have to have a camera or high tech. Criminals may move in next door or surrounding apts. They may be sitting in cars in the parking lot. Orgs recruit homeless, unemployed, teens, elderly, anyone with time on their hands, but they also recruit for jobs. They put pp! in positions to get your info. I know. I deal with this everyday. They destroy ppls lives and they use smear campaigns to isolate ppl so nobody help even if they could.

The best hacker-proof method is not to use over-the-cloud surveillance system.
The proper ones are called "closed-circuit" for a reason, as long as your system does not have the ability to connect to external networks, no hackers could hack in, no matter how hard they try.
Unless, they come to your place in person

We (the people) will tend to find the easiest way to do things. "Being lazy"
I used to be a Telecom equipment installer and also installed satellite dish's on residences. A friend asked if I was going to install a security camera system would I choose CCTV or wireless? I told him I would install a closed circuit system, but it takes proper planning, installation of equipment & cable management to ensure any physical attack will be very difficult. I then heard his wife say that wifi cameras would be easier & cheaper. I told her that I agree with her statement & left it at that.
Once they got a system it took me and a friend sometime but we did manage to compromise their system. LMFAO.

Yeah and there's the rub, the problem is like most people who think they know how to work on their car before crashing into it because they didn't put the brake lines back in properly, the people just plugging stuff in all willy-nilly don't set it up right either. We pay experts for a reason, people, it's literally their job to do the thing we can't do.
I can connect a hose to a fuel injector on a car very easily, doesn't mean it's a good idea for me to do it instead of a mechanic to make sure it's hooked up properly. Same with these devices, just because you can plug something in doesn't mean it's working right or that you should.

Turn off your location services, notably the GPS radio/sensor. It is a serious drain on the battery anyway. Especially if you share photos on the internet, your photos should not have GPS latitude and longitude information. Photos can be downloaded, that data access, leading a stalker with turn-by-turn directions to your home.
In a moral and trusting world, that info might be useful. But in the current world, who on the internet needs to know where the photos were taken, as if your descriptions doesn't already tell them all they need to know? Is it not enough that photos are date and time stamped?
If your camera app has a relevant setting, tell it to not store any location info on your photos.

This wasn't equipment failure this was human failure. No security can prevent the human handing over credentials

I mean, you can require registering sign in details to enable the systems rather than having them work immediately on default login and passwords. Human failure is at fault, but they could have been designed better.

Part of the hacking involved phishing, which is also a compromise due to human error. And to go a step further than that, clicking on random links can get malware installed on your phone, which can in fact effectively negate two factor authentication. In fact, beware of any apps that ask to be able to handle your messages, because that can be used for the same interception.
For as long as there is human, nothing can ever be completely safe. Only relative better to make hackers jump through more hoops.

You can ensure that no one will see you on the security camera system by using another network router and don't let it have access to the internet. Use it as local access. Set password to that router and security camera system. Set DNS server on the security system. Even those it does not have access to the internet, just set it to make sure in case hackers can put the internet to your local router. I don't recommend using IP Camera or wireless camera. Those are more insecure than the original wired security camera. Also set a password to your main router and set the DNS server on that( note: sometimes the DNS server down and you won't have access to the internet for 10 minutes).

When I was a kid and my parents went out they just always knew what me and my siblings were doing... no camera needed. I was scared enough just to think they might just have eyes in the back of their head like they said. I'm glad that there are people working that know how to hack to help others out. Good for them. Shame on those who traumatize children or anyone else. Most everyone in the world has a cell phone so everyone is probably being watched or heard. As the times change and we go further into electronics the less we do for ourselves....i can open my own door, turn on my own lights, move the thermostat... lets not get that lazy that we forget how to be alive. Good job to the crew who put this together and helped to get this message out.... be careful out there someone is always watching and it's not always our parents.😲

@Lillie Cast And it all started with remote controls for television sets. You don't need to get up or even move your arm to change channels, just pick up the remote and press a couple of buttons. How long will it be before you don't even have to do that? If you want to change channels all you have to do is say "Investigative Discovery " and that channel will pop up on the screen.

@@williegordon9188 not quite you still have to press a button to activate the voice command. Don’t let your brain be deceived it’s very very simple. If the TV was always listening for commands it would constantly be changing the channel or moving the volume whenever anyone (even on the TV) said certain words. Like if BBC 1 said you can watch the snooker on BBC 2 the TV would think 🤔 oh did I just hear BBC 2 and auto change channel. Thats why Alexa does nothing until you say Alexa. She’s only listening for the word Alexa but clearly that also means the mic is on always.
