    Just use a 45 or a 90 and 6" riser and install basin deeper , thec45 or 90 will ack as a sump

    Great video. Basin flow rate indeed limited by smallest diameter in exit channel.

    Cool video man! I like how you build those basins. I been using the FDM basin and they work real well too. Those Spee Dee basins come in two grades. Home Depot has the cheap ones. The others have a knock out for the 3” adapter and you can get full flow 4” tile. They are also heavier and have drill ports on the bottom to bleed. I don’t use them because if the small sump. Great ideas man!

    Love your videos. One thing I want to challenge you on though is a 4" CB with 4" drain pipe accepting as much water as a 6" CB with 4" drain pipe because of inlet surface area, vena contracta, and inlet loss coefficient. Essentially no matter how much head there is above the 4" CB it will never accept as much water because the stream of water narrows right after enter the orifice therefore it never actual fills the 4" drain completely. In order to maximize a drain pipes efficiency the inlet needs to be larger. I'm a landscape architect so I'm coming from this more from an engineering and mathematical perspective but I have also seen this phenomenon in the field

    Hey man, this video is really informative and I appreciate ya. A concern of mine is that for my application it will be around St. Augustine sod, a very aggressive grass that can cover that 4" inlet very quickly (weekly). I think I have to stick with the 6" speed-e basins for that reason, and bc the 6x6x4x4 cross hubs are running 100-200 bucks each, ouch! Glad you mentioned that they work well in concrete, mine are getting installed into Houston clay so, basically concreted in, lol.

      French Drain Man offers 4” inlet grates with turf restrictor plates if you want to check his website out. Also the cross tees that fit SDR35 pipe are sewer and drain fittings and should not cost that much. Check online for them or at a local plumbing supply store. Glad you enjoyed the video🤠

      @@StormWaterDrainageSolutions I really tried finding that 4x4x6x6 SDR35 cross but I can only find it at drainage solutions at 93 bucks a piece. Any links would be very well received. Thank you!

    quick question - how comes you never use PVC 2729 perforate for the French drain ? is not recommended ? i just started digging for my system and that what i have , but not sure if should use it. Your videos are So helpful

      Glad the videos are helping! And good question, the reason we don’t use pvc perforated pipe for our French drains is because there is just not enough inlet on the pipe to efficiently move water and air. Also with holes being only on the bottom of the pipe, this increases the chances of them getting clogged with sediment over time whereas having holes 360 degrees around the pipe insures that the pipe will be in operation even if sediment clogs the bottom holes over time.

      Correct, you must drill some leech holes at the bottom with some drain stone and geo fabric set underneath the basin. 💪

      Personally I drill the bottom and make a small dry well with non woven and pea gravel, seems to work

    I dont really understand the reasoning behind building your basins out of Tees or crosses, you just spend a lot more money for as you point out the same amount of flow. also you did not mention NDS 9 in. Square Catch Basins and Grates 9-in L x 9-in W Catch Basin, with a galvanized grate, these are probably less expensive than the 6 inch basin you build out of pvc, and catch and flow the same amount of water. at least where I live the galvanized grate is far less likely to clog from debris. Also the advantage to using a 6 inch flat green drain is that there is way more surface area than a 4 inch, so it is less likely to clog.
