MSFS 2020 Darkstar from London to Washington. I hope!

- In this video I'm taking a plane from the Top Gun Maverick DLC that has launched for Microsoft Flight Simulator on PC, Xbox Series consoles and Cloud gaming.
The Darkstar. Concorde went from London to New York in 3 hours 30 minutes. I'm going to a little past that, London Heathrow to Andrew AFB in Washington DC.
Now here's the kicker, its over 1000km more than the stated range for the Darkstar. So can I make it and how much fuel will I have left if I do.
I won't give any spoilers, but there are sections that are sped right up because, well it would be me in a straight line. There's also a single piece slowed down.... just say Hi when it appears. Hope you enjoy the video!
This video is recording on my PC using keyboard, mouse and Xbox Series X controller.
Hope you enjoy, more from this DLC coming soon.

12:56 - seatbelt light turns off, “dear passengers, we successfully passed through the turbulence field, we hope you fly again with Puke Airlines
HAHA!! Great commentary for that bit!
You know things are bad when you're repeatedly flung through the fuselage of the aircraft.
@@PaperSmiles and other passengers getting turned to mush after smashing the side

nono, everything is fine
"hi, DeSinc here..."
That flight was amazing, crazy how u lost and regained control
Bruh I look up and the screen was going craY 💀💀
Zy
Irl the plane would be destroyed
Many of my flights do this. I don't know why, it is very frustrating. I have a great gaming computer built for MSFS and yet the graphics and all are still not very good. But this flight was great, thank you for sharing it with us.
@@4tony42 without seeing exactly what you mean and just going off many of your flights do this (camera going crazy, plane spinning etc) sounds like you are losing control of aircraft by overspeeding and then losing control.
some tips I found flying sydney to tokyo a few times, the best altitude to fly at for raw speed is between 120,000 and 130,000 ft where you should be touching on 5800 knots *(ground speed)* mostly 5780 ish at max throttle. if you go any higher, your actual real ground speed is slower, even if it says mach 10 on the readout.
you can go all the way syd to tokyo (just over 4,000 nautical miles) if you maintain mach 7 at this altitude with afterburners on and easing off the throttle just slightly. you can go MUCH farther if you turn off the afterburner and cruise at mach 5.5 or so (untested how far you can go as of yet personally)
thanks based Half Life man
just waiting for someone to go for it and make an backhopping joke. aaaany second now
Did they do it yet
oh, you got back out of the Abyss
cool!
My dude pushed over 12gs during that event over the Atlantic… you dead!
Great flight anyway XD
12gs... *insert this is fine gif* haha
that's what people that are scared of planes thinks they go through during turbulences 🤣
Welcome to America, mum! How was your trip?
-Oh I don’t know. I was still reading the safety pamphlet when we landed.
And using the sick bag! 😅
Well done buddy really good flight👍
Doing this flight in MFS made me feel so livid. The music that accompanies you as you are doing the transition from afterburners to scramjets and then leveling out adds to the feeling and you feel as if you are on top of the world.
2:43 "FL300 checklist... landing lights off" 🤣, great video
I was like, did i miss anything... oh bugger! 🤣
@@LeslieDaWelsh1 Hahaha
You turned the scramjets off way too early on the descent. You want to keep them on, otherwise you'll get a lot of instability. You want to keep them on until you get back down to Mach 2 or 3, which will happen naturally as the air gets thicker. As you get lower you'll hear the main engines start to spool up again and that's when you can turn off the scramjets, then pull back on the throttle and start slowing down below Mach 1.
Also, on take off when you're trying to get up to Mach speed, get up to FL50 and then instead of pushing the nose down, just spin the plane upside down and your angle of ascent will become an angle of descent and when you go back down to FL35 you should have broken through Mach 1 and you can then spin the plane upright again and ascend again. This is actually the way it's "supposed" to be done according to the instructions.
Yeah ive realised now scram jets off before dropping below Mach 4 gets a bit sketchy!
Yeah i tried following the instructions and did it for the challenge, but just find it easier to do it the way i do in the video!
What instructions? The instructions you get in the USA challenge say get to FL35 for the dive, not 50.
@@WhiteHawk77 There are instructions on the display in the plane itself though I'm not sure what the heights say.
@@jedsithor the profile on the aircraft display you are referring to says start dive at 30K, as in FL30, but the instructions that come on the top corner of the screen when doing the challenge usually pops up around FL35, but of course you won’t get those in a normal flight. There does appear to be some inconsistencies in the instructions given.
@@WhiteHawk77 To be honest, I've done it at FL35 but the reason I say FL50 is mostly just in case someone dives too steep and struggles to pull up . A bit of a safety net I suppose.
Frankly, my biggest problem is figuring out my top of descent. I keep descending too early because I forget just how quickly you can get back down into normal flight heights.
You can make the VFR map window bigger to see more.
You also don’t have to bother with atc for the takeoff. Just don’t respond when they give you the frequency change and atc will eventually say “ATC services terminated” and then you can carry on without them pestering you
Forgot about the radio and VFR map tbh!
Or just change frequency to shut them up for good.
I did the whole flight omg it was wild !!! Loved it
Very fun, thanks!
Great vid, you had me worried when you lost control, the darkstar can be a real pain sometimes!
Pain indeed! Altitude hold mode would be great and make life easier!
lmao
Funny how this is based on the upcoming SR-72. And that recover from that serious stall was absolutely epic, great flying
Thank you, more luck though, wont lie haha
I just finally flew this thing in the stratosphere without stalling, its awesome
glad u did this..was too lazy to sim..figured somebody must've done it.😄
Well done man! - I gotta check out how you pushed the range so far! :D
Luck and 275k ft above sea level hahaha
Going against the earth rotation is a tad bit easier.
I just got MSFS for xbox series x, a new tv, and a new fondness for aviation.
Got bogged down in the tutorials, finally just said f*** it, and went to Kodiak, Alaska, muscled my fastest plane into the air GTA-style and headed west.
Flew to Atak Island in the middle of the Bering Sea.
I can now see why this was considered Game of the Year.
I did 0 tutorials haha! Learn as you go is best way cause when you crash, you know what you did wrong haha
What joystick are you using on the SX?
Amelia Earhart would have been so proud of this. That’s what she wanted
Wooooooooooooooooow! Fly SO HIGH AND FAST !!!!!!!!!
WOW Amazing this aircraft very nice only 52 minutes .
love the shutdown at the end
I love stuff like this
I just flew this from London center... I looked at the other computer and here is this vid.
The cabin pressure needed for this flight would be outer limits. The G-Force alone would be hard to handle.
Tom cruise did it 😂
Space shuttle astronauts: are we a joke to you!
About, from the movie "Top Gun - Maverick": the fictional "Darkstar" aircraft was designed with the assistance of engineers from Lockheed Martin and its Skunk Works division. A full-scale mockup of the aircraft was built and filmed at China Lake. Kosinski said "The reason we approached Skunk Works is because I wanted to make the most realistic hypersonic aircraft we possibly could. In fact, as you saw, we built it full-scale in cooperation with them. But the reason it looks so real is because it was the engineers from Skunk Works who helped us design it. So those are the same people who are working on real aircraft who helped us design Darkstar for this film. Lockheed explicitly denied that Darkstar is related to the uncrewed Lockheed Martin SR-72, which the company has never confirmed as existing.
Thats skunk works for you. You ask then to do something and it WILL be done! They done an amazing job at coming up with this, just miss the auto pilot 😂
How that plane didn’t disintegrate is beyond me
Awesome!
Finalmente, las naves espaciales con que soño Carlitos Menem
Pat your shants.
I did watching it! :)
New shants were needed after that incident 🤣
Hopefully the turns home will shed altitude smoother than the simulation....
I love how outside the plane during cruising, you just hear the wind or whatever that is, and how the plane is heating up and becoming all red. It just shows how fucking fast you’re going lol.
Its great seeing the heat map at that speed
You do realise that the Flat Spin / Falling Leaf around the 13 minute mark would flame-out the Scramjets .
Oh yeah! 100%! It would also would have ripped me into my atoms lol
Just test flight from Groom Lake to Elgin AFB Florida in 30 minutes @ Mach 10. This flight is waaaaaaay better than flying SR71A.
Its a great plane, even though unrealistic
Maginific
Trippy.
Ma boi crossing the Atlantic in 15 mins 😅
*CRAZY SPEED!*
It feels like im Sonic 🤣
Just like top gun maverick
Yeah sorry Washington I kinda missed the airport so I’m just gonna fly to China and turn round and come back again I’ll be back in 10 minutes
I'd give the Darkstar the tail numbers Whiskey Tango Foxtrot 1 or WTF1
Gear down at 500kts indicated. Nice.
Of course! Yolo 🤣 ive leart since then trust me!
Pilot: Don’t try this at home
Me: aaaaawwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Well you can in MSFS, just i aint taking responsibility for any crashes haha
I need this badly!!
Free DLC for the game! Just go into your Content Manager in game and you'll find it there
The decent it was bad. You missed the runway in the beginning. But it was a great experience. If they going to add a front camera aside from the texture map, that’s will be great too
Yeah i completely messed up the decent, thought i was further out! Mach 9/10 can throw you very quickly!
@@LeslieDaWelsh1 Yeah, Just don’t use the air brake at that high altitude, and the thrust should turn off to go all the way down until you reach 50,000 feet, and by then you can give a little thrust and push to continue your descent to the runway.
@@Abdul.. oh ive learnt how to handle the decent better. You'll see soon enough in a video
I thought it actually only took 20 mins for the trip but see it was sped up. How long did the flight actually take?
Think it was around 45 minutes
Are you Tom cruise? Only Tom Can fly like this
I have no comment 🤣
it's all maintain 120,000 feet.
me. holding at 260,000 feet lol. oops.
Imagine what the unreal engine and top end gaming machines are going to produce in realism?
Well starfield aint that far in the future! Who knows!
The unreal engine has always been amazing, but it won't get realism down for physics like this.
Do you play it on PC or on Xbox? ;) It was a very nice video. I'm impressed. :)
Your loading time is so short, its amazing.
Im playing on PC, but also theres a little editing to shorten loading times 😉
this and the pelican made me redownload
Pelican is great! Make sure to check out my 2 videos on the pelican! The features one has a great ending thats worth sticking round for 😉
flights are so much quicker and enjoyable in this plane
Blink and you miss it!
This should save a bit of time unlocking the Frequent Flyer Miles achievement.
Oh yes!
If you would have lost control of the real one at that speed you would have been stripped down to atoms.
It the new LHC system in action 🤣
I just hit Mach 10.4 today
I just done the dark star challenge, the first time I broke up just as I was near landing, pulled it off the second time in 33 mins. The carrier landing is really hard, I dunno Real pilots do it at night in terrible weather, I only pulled it off once.
Carrier landings are among the most difficult in the world. If you miss your mark on the cables, you have less than a second to hit the engines to go for a fly around
In 30 mins wow.
Slew mode? Where we're going we don't need slew mode.
*insert "i get that reference" gif*
Me I did Marseille to New York City 😀
It’s a right bastard to turn at speed using rudder helps
Oh for sure! Rudder is certainly your friend with this machine
@@LeslieDaWelsh1 I pressed foot extremely slowly on mine thinking is this a good idea ? after finally getting the Scramjets going and up to a decent speed 😃
That wing design might work quite well.
Well, I hope so, they will be flying it for real in a few years, though it won’t be going as fast as this movie version.
@@WhiteHawk77 Don't be so sure about that. As I understand the matter, both the SR-72 and F-52 are capable of flight at the edge of space, 17,000MPH, 100 Miles high, nearly completely through that wild blue yonder!
@@patrickmalarkeyanoldirishm646 nothing I can see online says that. Mach 6 is the number given many places, which is still nearly twice as fast as the SR-71.
@@WhiteHawk77 Well, I guess you shouldn't just believe everything you hear and read
@@patrickmalarkeyanoldirishm646 same to you.
At 270k feet theres a lot of time to gain control back lol
Indeed there is haha
“Max Altitude: 150,000 Ft”
LOL YEAH SURE
The stars ARE the limit 😂
Took 10 seconds to fly across Ireland. 😵
How did you get it off the deck in free mode...
Very nice. I haven’t even tried this aircraft on my sim. Does it not have autopilot? I’m not sure I’d trust my piloting skills at Mach 10.
no auto pilot at all
Living to dead in 0.3 seconds. Speedbrake ftw
Stable flight to new trousers please in 0.1 seconds though! XD
DARKSTAR
even in games are using fisheye camera to fake earth curvature :) :) :)
From the front it kinda looks like a plague mask
now i can not unsee it...... thanks lol
2 miles per second
What I don’t get is how the wheels retract into where the scram jets are
Cause why not! I dont get it either tbh lol
Did you have to tilt the joystick down to counteract the curvature of the earth?
JK, I know the earth is flat... in Microsoft Flight Sim.
No, really, it's flat. And yet it looks just like real life, they don't need to add any warping filters to make it curved. Funny that, how it's totally flat, and yet looks like real life.
how did you turn on the after burner? i couldn't find an answer
If I'm seeing this right, the plane has an 'afterburner' setting on the full throttle position
Once your at full throttle, press and hold throttle up again
12:35 top gun maverick maneuvers be like.
I wanted to check for sick bags 🤣
So all in all how long did it took to go from London to Washington D.C?
Around 45 minutes in total
I’m sad because mine doesn’t wanna work right, I can’t even take off lol
Cant take off? Thats weird
Change the flight simulation to Modern in the settings.
I jut watched top gun 2😂
Didn't get the thing to go over mach 3 and when I did it overstrust every time
Once you do it once you know how to do it then. Best way is to literally go up to arouind 50-60,000ft then go nose down. then start to pull up slowly then so you level out around 20,000 and start to climb straight after at around 25 degrees. this will help you push up to the transition speed needed
Anybody know why it’s buggy on XBOX, I’ve been trying to takeoff but for some reason it’s shaking uncontrollably and it’s kind of hard to take off. Please explain!
im not too sure, ive heard others had problems on xbox though.
@@LeslieDaWelsh1 pls pin comment
So, I guess it's OK if you can't see straight ahead while inside the cockpit?
Yup! Apparently its perfectly safe..... i question that though 😂
@@LeslieDaWelsh1 Yeah, I guess test pilots exist for a reason. So we don't have to find out. 😆
How is this airlpane going to refuel in the air. Pilot unable to see tanker.
A lot of luck and one hell of a guy on the refueling tanker!
"My parents aren't home"
Such a cool plane. I’d say it needs an auto pilot but when you’re only flying for 25-30 minutes, what’s the point?
Would absolutely love autopilot feature tbh
Agreed! Its a great plane! Ive got another video coming soon! Bit longer distance so few stop overs needed. Hit the sub button so you dont miss it!
When you get into hyper sonic, it really doesnt need it tbh! Its super easy to let it fly on its own!
@@LeslieDaWelsh1 you should do an orbit of earth and see how long it takes
@@carsnstuff6800 stay tuned.....
If the air is so thin that the EAS is 300knots, why does the plane turn red from friction?
Flight was cool. The ATC communications were laughably dumb. All of them. Just turn that off next time.
Already have!
Loss of control at that speed would have been fatal. Aircraft would have disintegrated.
100% it would have ripped to shreds if it was IRL and if I had damage on. But for the video was just showing the speed or the thing
@@LeslieDaWelsh1 I always have full damage turned on to see how good i fly
Maverick survived 😁
You play wt joystick or not?
Xbox controller
Why is this plane engineered to where the pilot can’t see forward?
Maybe because of the heat from the air friction at the nose of the plane?
We all know that plane (or any) would desintegrate when the "incident" over the Atlantic happened. Now, the face of the researchers once they find out what made this accident happens... lol *facepalm*
I am the researcher.... i didnt face palm when i did it! There was a lot of swear words and hoping 🤣
where the hell did u find this beast of a plane cant find it anywhere just skins for it
Top gun maverick DLC 👍
@@LeslieDaWelsh1 i have it but the plane is not showing up in the plane selection screen?
The Plane is a joke... it says.. it canfly on MACH 9 but does 10.
does playing x2 makes it mach 20
Time wise yes lol
I'd say pulling back on the throttle during a mach 10 run is not the best idea in any situation (unless you want to slow down)... just to put my own opinion about that accident out there
Yeah, was a bit of a mistake 😂
plane would be toast in irl
@@mikerodix4800 I wouldn't say toast... more like a very messy chunk of metal / carbon fiber / whatever it's made from. The plane is made for resisting extreme heat, otherwise it would disintegrate sumwhere around mach 5 to 6, simply from the air flowing over it at these insane speeds, but I doubt it is made for resisting as much g-force as what happened in that accident over the atlantic ocean...
Pretty sure you broke up after that spin.
That plane is currently in 19 million pieces across the Atlantic and East coast of America!
it really doesn't fly but the scenery movs but we like to think its flying but it doesn't,its a illusion
