@@MH-gc2hr I bought 5 - 10 gallon bags and 20 - 7 gallon bags. Use instead of but just like pots. Much easier to move around and good drainage. Just fill with Miracle Grow soil and plant. I live in zone 8b so I have plenty of time for fall crops.

For your new garden, if you break it up into zones in some way, and assign each zone a day of the week. Then weed that zone on that day. (So once a week each zone gets weeded.) The weeds won’t have a chance to get out of control. And by doing it in zones, it won’t be so overwhelming. Just do that zone on that day and don’t worry about the rest of the garden that day as it will get its turn another day. It also won’t take as long as trying to do the whole garden in one day.
This is an excellent idea!! Juggling my first garden and a toddler is rough some times. I will give this a go ❤️

When you go to recaulk, fill your tub about half way with water beforehand, caulk as normal but leave the water in until set. Doing this will help insure the caulk doesn't separate from the tub or wall when it has weight in it.

This year I bought a whole stack of dollar tree wire wastebaskets, and they just live out in the garden area. I always have a bunch of baskets for whatever I need to pick. I also rinse things in the baskets with the hose. So handy.
Yes! I got two laundry basket types from there. They are too small for an actual load of laundry but they have handles and make it easy to rinse everything before I bring it inside.

I often plan dinner from Becky’s latest videos too. I hate hate menu planning, and my husband is no help. I’ll ask him what he wants, or what he likes, and his answer is either “anything” or “just order a pizza” argh! LOL

You two are both amazing. I love seeing how smart you both are in how you manage your lives. It’s really so rare to see a couple who are so much on the same page in terms of goals, work ethic, stewardship of resources, and an abundance of creative talent. Your new home is beautiful…and all the improvements are so well done. I’ve done home renovations for years and I know how difficult trim work is…it takes so much skill. At first I was wondering why you were going to spend the time when you have so much going on to replace all the trim but I have to say…Josh’s design and precision skill on the trim…particularly with those tall headers is breathtaking. When I saw the sun room completed it reminded me of something from a historical home or an architectural magazine. I cannot wait to see it all done.
Becky…you are a total inspiration. You have inspired me to get back in the kitchen and cook every meal. As a result, I’ve saved money (even with inflation), the food has been so much tastier, and I feel better because I’m controlling the ingredients.
You’ll have years of content with all your new home projects, but I really see you moving from this into a bigger platform…a Martha Stewart or a Barefoot Contessa…and definitely writing a series of cookbooks. Those of us who found you early on will be able to say…I watched her when she first started!

It is apparent that you and Josh speak wonderful words concerning each other’s strengths, so please don’t think that what I’m about to say is speaking contrary to Josh’s strength and sacrifice, but I also recognize that you both exert dedicated strength in to making your house a home! You both bring out the best in each other though I’m sure that there are times even that maybe challenged! Continue to always think the best of each other; it’s a wonderful blessing to be reminded of such precious things that we can do to lift each other up! Even the mess-ups with what you think is not a good thing is still a blessing - like overdone cookies (though I would have definitely enjoyed them), plus your dinner and breakfast which was not an issue! I put my basil in the freezer instead of dehydrating it. It's perfect to pull out and make pesto with. No need to defrost it, just throw it in whatever you are cooking. Same with my Cilantro and parsley - the herbs that lose a lot of their flavour when dried. I'm experimenting with doing the same with St Johns Wort this year as it loses a lot of potency when dried.

@@guyonmybike I usually chop but I've been putting my basil in whole. Pulled it out a couple days ago and it crunched nicely into smaller bits to go into the blender for pesto. I'm guessing the others probably don't need chopping either.
Becky I just wanted to comment that your huge calendula patch couldn’t come at a better time for you. If you pick and dry the flower heads, you can put them in a jar and cover with olive or avocado oil and let it infuse. You can use that to make the best simple baby bottom balm with a little beeswax. You can even just use the infused oil for skin soothing as it’s so gentle and wonderful! ❤️🙏🏼🇺🇸
Agreed, calendula is one of the flowers used to heal skin from the 'new' and upcoming m0nkey pox plan-demic. The Virgin Mary has been warning us of the new diseases the elites have released into the air. Use St. Michael oil or healing plants like Calendula to cure diseases in the skin. After this, a new disease in the eyes will happen, use St. Joseph oil for the eyes and any other disease. The Virgin Mary says both diseases will be worse than covid.

My grandpa used to make me ground cherry pie before he passed. He wasn’t the great baker that my grandma was but the fact that he put the effort into it for me was the best gift of all 🥰

I started a garden but due to my Dad dying my heart just wasn't in it but my daughter ate a few peas out of it - they did terrible, nearly no carrots germinated but she ate 1 that did 😊 Onions are good and we ate a cabbage out of it 😋 oh and I have beetroot in the fridge - delicious

Your dinner reminds me so much of those I made when I had my garden many years ago. I'd pick whatever what was ready when I got home from work (lima beans, tomatoes, summer squash, green beans, beet greens - whatever was ripe that day, and it changed every day), wash it all up, and then saute it in butter to serve over rice or pasta of some sort, or a baked potato if it was the weekend and I had time to bake one. Some days I'd add meat of some sort, some days it was just vegetables. Delicious dinner out of the freshest produce I'd ever had! I miss that garden!

I make a similar dish, with chorizo and summer vegetables that make their own sauce, but let me tell you, add a glass of red wine to this and take this meal to another level!
Calcium for tomatoes: you might try adding watery milk, 1 part milk to 4 parts water. In this form it's already dissolved and readily available to plants.
This year, I took some cal/mag vitamin tablets & powdered them in my Magic Bullet blender and mixed that in with compost that I put in each transplant hole. I also powdered some old multivitamins & mixed that in as well. It's been working really well.
I use spoiled milk.
When you make your own cream cheese you can also use the leftover whey in your garden.
I dry out my egg shells and banana peels then grind them to powder in a coffee grinder. When I'm planting my tomatoes and peppers I mix a couple of tablespoons of the powder in each hole.
We also save all our egg shells and we just crush ours and we have beautiful tomatoes. I would think using whole eggs would really draw critters to your garden.
@@lelanoel3499 I used to just crush them too. The shells take a long time to break down so I just bought a cheap coffee grinder and do it that way. Egg shells and banana peel fertilizer is a thing in my neck of the woods.We also add a bit of epsom salt into the mix.

It seems that everyone & their mother paints with grays. If your like me I don’t want my house to be like every house you see.

That zucchini is perfect size to stuff 😃 We do this sausage, stuffing, tomato, onion and cheese mixture. So good! Definitely a summer time treat since the stores would never sell them that big. Our Taiwanese yard long beans are producing and the beans taste like green beans to me. Will definitely be replanting. Such a space saver.
We just harvested our very first watermelon today and although it was small we were proud! We have been struggling with the Florida heat with trying to grow food but we keep trying and we learn from you to keep persevering! I get so excited to see what you have next for us to see. Even if it is watching you fold laundry! LOL Thank you for keeping us entertained and keeping me company while I learn and again, persevere.
In August I'm going to try planting my carrot seeds like Mallorie from Quebec Homestead did, as it's supposed to reduce the need for thinning. You mix the seeds with cornstarch and water to make a slurry, place in a Ziplock baggie, cut the corner off and squeeze out a ribbon into your trenches. Depending on how this works out, I will either do it again or try the pelleted seeds! Dinner looks amazing! 😍
I was taught to mix small seeds with a bit of cornstarch and the sow. The white of the cornstarch will show where the seeds was sow, so you can see if the seeds are to few per trench.
I pulled my first round of bush beans out yesterday and planted purple beans and carrots and lettuce. I also planted more potatoes a week or two ago. I'm not sure if it will produce before our frost (zone 6a) but like Becky says, they definitely WON'T if I don't get them in the ground!😁
I just planted more potatoes a little over a week ago too. I am zone 6a/5b they are already popping out of the soil so hopefully I still have time. The way this year is going maybe.

I'm right about to plant my first potatoes also in 6a! I'm heading to the garden center for grow bags and some straw to hill them. I can't be mad if they don't produce, my potatoes sprouted as time got away from me and I didn't realize it had been that long since I pulled from the bag and thought "What the heck, what if I cut them so each piece has at least two eyes and plop them in bags". Looking forward to even one little potato ^.^

Love what you two are doing to the new house... just a couple side ideas.. I am an avid fan of built ins.. that panel by the kitchen door, would be a great place to have small show shelves on the kitchen side.. a place to show off your home processed herbs in their jars.. I think it would make an awesome show piece for your kitchen...on the living room side.. perhaps a plex glass panel that you turn into a fo-stained glass art piece.. I saw your paintings and you do WONDERFUL work..

Becky - here is a tip. I grow tons of basil and dill from seeds I get at dollar tree. When your basil is ready to start harvesting, cut off gone nicer piece with stem, and stick it in the ground. It will take off and give you another plant with a head start. I double the number of plants I have that way. I always blanch my basil before dehydrating it. That way the color is preserved and it looks so pretty.
I know you will be absolutely thrilled when that Rhinoceros is finally out of the living room in your new home. Such a joy to see you finding unexpected veggies in your garden. God bless.

Becky, when you get disheartened by the weeds, keep in mind that 1) many of them are edible and even taste good & 2) most are medicinal.
Dandelions alone are valuable enough that I refuse to pull them when they show up in my garden. They're highly nutritious and chock full of antioxidants. I eat the greens, make jam from the flowers, and the roots are good for gut health, as a diuretic, fights inflammation, and aids in blood sugar management.
Get a good field guide and identify those weeds. You may find that a surprising number of them are actually useful.
Yess!! I use the flowers for tea and I feed the greens to my bearded dragon. I had no idea how big dandelion plants grew until I had one this year that got to 2ft wide in my garden.

Love the blue lake bush green beans! I get Soo many beans it's crazy. I canned around 200 quarts last year. I have enough for my household and my 3 grown daughters family's too.
They seem to be the best and freeze well too without becoming mush.

Should plant some in the owners old garden at your your new house . That way you have stuff to harvest there after you move up there in case you can't harvest from your garden after you move.
That dish with the pineapple sausages and rice was so beautiful and I think I am going to make it right away. I don't have pineapple sausages but I have other sausage so I will use it. I love getting an abundance of basil from the garden! Hot tip for picking it strategically to maximize growth: Pick it above where two new shoots are coming out (in the "sucker" zone). That way, every time you pick, you are essentially making that stem grow into two new stems. It leads to bushy bushy basil with LOTS of growth. Off two plants, I can now pick a one-gallon Ziploc bag full twice a week. Happy growing!

But he will not try anything else. Can't blame his parents cause they ate everything. My oldest son will eat anything middle child is very picky like my husband. And our 3rd son will eat a variety of foods I ate what was put in front of me and didn't complain cause you had food to eat. I love your videos wish they were longer. God bless.

Becky, you pronounce words however you feel like pronouncing them. We all get what you're saying. My mom was Japanese and got such heavy teasing about some of her pronunciations that it made her anxious at times. It's just not a hill anyone needs to die on. I've been harvesting tomatoes, herbs and hopefully soon will pull my carrots and potatoes! Oh and bell peppers and jalapeños. All this in pots and raised beds on my patio! Your calendula flowers are beautiful! You can pop the flower heads & let your chickens eat them-the yolk color should become more vibrant.

We put a whole egg but we do crack them.
I always put a whole egg in and I never crack them. The tomato roots should crack them when they need the nutrients. I’ve only ever found one leftover after I pulled the tomato but I believe it was because for some reason that plant was never thriving. I’m 55 years old and have been growing a garden for over 30 years now, and I’m still learning new things!

Try planting carrots without a trench. Scatter seeds in rows. Cover lightly with potting soil or seed-starting mix. Water in well. Cover with some board(s). Check every day for germination. Remove boards as soon as seeds germinate. Start watering well as soon as you remove boards. Then the drip alone should work. I normally get close to 100% germination and healthier seedlings.

You may be having issues with carrot germination due to the depth you are planting them. I am surely not a master gardener, but I have always been told to sow carrot seeds on the top of the soil and just sprinkle a dusting of light soil on top and water in well. If you are in a windy area or hot area, where the seed may not stay moist through the day, you can put a wood board on top of them and that will keep them touching the soil and moist enough until your next watering. The carrots with germinate without light and then you take the board off once you see germination. Hope this helps! :)

No progress yet on the new house garden. We will start working on it this fall!
if there is mold visible between the tiles on the shower wall, it might be a good idea to maybe check behind there to make sure it does not go all the way up the wall behind there and if not then treat it before you caulk it.

I’m surprised to see you out planting at the old house instead of planting in some of the old beds at the new house. Will you stay long enough to harvest these or are they good gardening will (like your strawberries at the new house) to the next homeowner? I know you said you’d keep the old house through gardening season but that can mean a lot of things and I think in your last video you mentioned moving up to the new house in 2 weeks!

OK folks I know I’m old! Did anybody else wonder why she was planting eggs? So glad she gave an exclamation because I was thinking she wanted them to grow. Funny how my mind works but a good laugh in the morning is a blessing!
