Hey mate. Headed over to Christchurch mid January next year. I wouldn't mind having a crack at some trout on soft baits. Is there much action with the trout that time of the year in the Christchurch area say in the Waimak or is it not the best time of year for them? Not sure if walking the banks above the highway bridges is worth a try. Guess it's always worth a try! Thanks for the vids.
Hi John, the trout certainly are about at that time of the year but it would be best to target them early in the morning or later on in the evening as the water temperature gets quite warm and the trout are not as active. Here is a link for you on where to go. www.fishandgame.org.nz/freshwater-fishing-in-new-zealand/where-to-fish/regional-info/north-canterbury/
@canterburyfishingadventures thanks for the info! Thinking of running with black and gold powerbait as it seems a common pattern in a lot of vids I've seen. Guessing it matches some of your native fish species. Do you think that pattern would still work in lower light situations ie early morning/late evenings? Appreciate the advice!
@@canterburyfishingadventures brilliant! Thanks again. I'll have to read up on techniques for trout. Guessing a slow roll will more or less work! Tight lines
That’s a great fish but mate that’s absolutely shocking handling, even though it swam away. That’ll definitely have some damage to it, next time keep it in the water. Quick lift for a photo and off she goes, goes a long way.
Yeah, possibly not the best handling but it was in a difficult place to try and get the fish out of the net. I do not usually land fish this way. Will be better next time
Show the fish some respect . You obviously don’t have much experience at handling fish properly as it seems to be a theme in your videos. Even my kids can’t believe the way you put them back . As for the bozo comment, that just makes you a grown man look quite pathetic.
Mate that's fish is lucky if it's 5 pound. Slabby as . You need to work on your fish handling skills that would almost be the worst iv seen . Be better mate .
Agreed shocking handling of the fish

Terrible handling of a fish . That will probably die .
it was clearly fine when it swam away at the end, bozo
How?

It was a very tricky place to land and release the fish, there was no intention to harm the fish.
If you hold the fish with gills reverse to the current they recover more quickly.👍
Hi, do you need license if you catch & release ?
