This is an awesome video. So much knowledge shared by Matt! :) Now I feel I have a better chance of catching some eels. And just as important I've seen how to fillet them.
Just discovered you Piri... Really awesome vids... Really envious I guess, coz you're doing something that you love, hanging with people that you love in a country that you love. Just one suggestion.... Concentrate a little more on the cooking.. Most folks love to see the feed being made... Otherwise the content is bloody perfect....
I'm from England originally and used to catch heaps of eels or "tuna" from river streams and lakes, I've seen places in NZ with them but they seem so few in number that i have just left them hopping they breed and get better established ( basically never went back), i was wondering if the stream on the property was fed to keep up the numbers or increase them and what sort of yelled they have per year and when to catch and when to let spawn and grow. I catch eels from the sea with spears in long shallow beaches at dusk, good time for flounders too, but the fresh water eel (tuna) is special to me. I have caught them, cleaned them, cooked them, but never had the chance to eat them. this movie has rekindled my appetite for eel (Tuna). The property looks awesome and i fully understand his opinion about having the river close by. makes total sense . never tried the bait that you guys was using but i have a killer bait that eels love the world over...yes it works in all the countries I've tried it, well 3 anyway....shall i say...er ..... no you guys don't need it. great video keep em coming. :)
Use to hunt EEL all the time as a kid in our local river or creeks - get home and clean it before throwing it on the stove in butter or my Nan would smoke them - yummy……..don’t know why a lot of people were scared - they never bit me ever lol……caught some big boys back in the day especially when at night under torch………good memories
an eel grows one inch a year. Eel grow 1" per year. The people you are eating are older than you lol My father used to count "1 for me, 1 for you, 1 for me right". He was the Chief Accountant for the AEPB
