This is so good! As an Australian, I've got a few Maori brothers who've made me appreciate the culture so much. Always good for a laugh and so humble, I truly believe it's the greatest culture in the world and watching this makes me feel like I'm kicking back with them like old times! Good one Piri. Travelled to NZ in 2015 and stayed 2 days near Mt Cook and Twizel region, had some incredible fish there. Can show some of the beautiful Lake Tekapo region

Whitebait are the juveniles of six species of fish. Five of these are migratory native species: inanga, banded kōkopu, giant kōkopu, kōaro and shortjaw kōkopu - which are all endangered and approaching extinction at the current rate of fishing.
Please keep this in mind if you are thinking of going whitebaiting. We need to look after our native taonga, we don't want to lose them forever.
Sustainable
Don’t believe everything the white man tells you..tons and tons of bait is caught every season and that’s nothing on the tons and tons that go straight passed the nets
Whitebait don’t only come up in the season they run all year around. There are still plenty of whitebait in our rivers and it is still sustainable. The biggest issue faced is habitat loss not fishing, protect and enhance the rivers and land and we will continue to have whitebait for generations to come
@@unfitforpurpose6422 When you read about what the whitebait population used to be like only a few decades ago (so plentiful that they were used as a garden fertilizer...) it's pretty obvious that they're in trouble real trouble.

I know an old Maori bloke that saw a massive shoal of Whitebait coming inland swimming in a wave so he waded out in his wetsuit unzipped it and swooped up the whole shoal in his wetsuit then rezipped...Needless to say I dont eat his Whitebait fritters anymore lol
