    No matter who originally sang any song, Elvis owned each and every song. He was a master at interpreting the soul of the song. ❤

    Nick, I just couldn’t help myself, I had to listen to all the preceding versions. 29 singers recorded this song before Elvis did and ALL 29 singers sang it completely straight, as a country or swing ballad. As an Elvis fan since 1961, I have often said that the general public has no idea about Elvis’ unique interpretation of so many songs. 29 singers were totally interchangeable on this song and then along comes Elvis who gives it a completely different feel, to the point it almost seems like a completely different song. Elvis once again shows he is in a class of his own, a stratosphere with an inhabit of one. A prince from another planet!

      @jackielouise7538 21 день назад +7

      Thanks for that, Sally. I'm not in the least surprised that after all those others singing it Elvis did it completely differently and made it his own, just like he always did 😊

    A bit more info for you ““Without a break Elvis hit the piano keys again, starting in on Eddy Arnold’s “I’ll Hold You In My Heart (‘Till I Can Hold You In My Arms),” taking a simple country song and transforming it into a four-and-a-half-minute ecstatic, soulful plea. He lost himself in the emotion of the song, which he knew well from Eddy’s version but remembered better from the more recent 1963 version by the Sons of the Pioneers. They weren’t the new hits Chips and Felton were looking for, but “Without Love” and “I’ll Hold You In My Heart” were pure Elvis: the kind of material he’d been suggesting since his May and June 1966 sessions”

    It is strange but I already know Elvis's powerful voice is Heavenly beautiful but each time I hear it again it blows me away of how stunning and beautiful it actually is - It just amazes me each time. Elvis indeed makes everything he sings his very own - dear Elvis always puts his heart and soul into every song he sings and so it is out of this world and just Heavenly!! Nothing even comes close - as a matter of fact you do not even want to hear anything else when you hear Elvis. I just love this one - it was a pleasure to hear. Thank you Nick for Elvis Sundays.

    This is one amazing album. A few other fantastic ones from the album:, Power of My Love, Wearin' That Loved On Look, After Loving You. ("In The Ghetto" comes from this album.) There's just no point comparing others to what Elvis did w-this song, or any other song for that matter (I don't ever mean to infer you personally, just overall), because what he did w-a song was way over the top voice wise, emotion wise, etc., etc.. Thanks so much for your description/explanation from a dreary, wet NY.

    Well, there's nothing left for me to say as you've just said it all and I completely agree with you Nick 😊 Thank you so much to whoever it was who pressed the recording button when Elvis was just jammin' with the band and singing with 🙏
    Perhaps you should do some reactions where you listen to the original version of a song first and then to Elvis' version. Even knowing how he made these songs his own, you'll be surprised with just how different some of them are. For example: 'Blue Moon of Kentucky' was originally sung by Bill Monroe as a waltz back in 1945 on the Grand Ole Opry and listening to it just makes me wonder how on earth a 19-year-old Elvis heard this (probably when he was only about 10 years old) and then sang it the way he did!
    He may not have ever written any of the songs he sang, but he sure did some great arrangements on them. He didn't read music either, but he could listen to a song just once and know how he wanted it to sound. That's just pure talent 🥰

    Another story about these songs from the album. He was sick with a cold and was so raspy that instead of sending him home as they would today, they took advantage of his voice. He sang so many takes of in the Ghetto (30 something). He actually the next day or two felt worse & he still worked. Finally on the weekend they said to go and rest. Love your Elvis Sundays. I’ve missed several because I was sick so I’m going back to listen. I’m not going to comment unless I have a story because last time I did this, I felt so bad since you answered every one. You were so kind and you said “Wow, you did watch a lot 😂😂😂. This time I’ll just drop a line and some emoji so you know I watched them. My dearest Nick! Every time I hear this song, where ever I am, whatever I am doing, I must close my eyes and yield to it. I take on the sense that he is starved for the woman about whom he sings and is trying to connect with her on another plane. I am held captive until the last note has left his lips and even after because I have traveled to that other place with him. Both primal and sophisticated, this song transcends that which we know as music. Always so good to see you Nick! I love it when you get cheeky!❤️

    As well as country, you omitted gospel which was his own personal favourite. I'm not religious but listening to Elvis singing gospel is sublime and does take you to another place. It always amuses me that he chose to sing Peace in the Valley on the Ed Sullivan show which must have messed with the minds of those who had been denouncing him from the pulpit! Of course in the 70s one of the showstoppers was How Great Thou Art ‐ gospel in the middle of a rock concert - but he sang from the heart so it didn't seem so strange.

    First of all, love the lighting. Definitely a different ambiance going on. It's been so long since I've listened to that album, but I'm so glad to hear songs from it again. You hit the nail on the head, no one could do a song the way Elvis did. BB King said something like Elvis sang a song like he meant it and that's so true. It's more than just the words and the instrumentation, it's more even than the lyrics, it's the delivery that's so unique. And I especially love when Elvis just goes off and does his own thing. It's so amazing. I think I read somewhere Elvis had to be convinced to record in Memphis and I don't understand why. Easily some of his most powerful recordings. It seems that, except for the 68 Comeback Special, Elvis did whatever "the powers that be" wanted him to. He even said in an interview that the awful movies began to make him physically sick. He didn't want to continue doing them. But he did. He also said there were times he hated how the studio manipulated his songs before marketing them. But he didn't stop them. I understand about contracts and responsibilities, but at some point, you have to put your foot down and say no more. If Elvis acted as his own most powerful advocate, producing his own artistry, he may have been happier and we would have enjoyed so much more golden Elvis. He really was such a genius.

Other reactors do this a lot, I think for the most part to split the song up and hopefully try and beat any copyright restrictions so they can get the money for their video. None of my Elvis watch-a-longs are monetised as that’s not why I’m doing them. Would rather have the experience of appreciating the artist, than get a few £/$ here and there 😎
