Elvis was born into poverty. He was only 1 if 4 white families living in a prominently black neighborhood, during awful years of segregation. Elvis had a twin that died at birth and buried in a shoebox in an unmarked grave because they were so poor. His neighbors helped his family and he was a church goer. He NEVER forgot where he came from and he didnt see color. He saw human beings. Great reaction and please react to If I Can Dream in white suit from 68 Comeback Special.

He most certainly did see colour, he saw the struggle and stood by his people. He was the first artist to employ black musicians on his stage, and opened 3 revenue streams to pay black songwriters fairly. But if course Chuck D, Ray Charles & Quincey Jones wouldn't comment on that

Elvis, One way or another inspired all music we have today. If you trace it all back, It was Elvis that did it all first. What M.J. Done was originally done by Elvis in the 50s. And throughout his career. As John Lennon said ''Before Elvis there was nothing''

Elvis was born into extreme poverty in Tupelo Mississippi. He was second born of twins His brother was stillborn. Seeking to pull his parents out of poverty he started singing in church at a very young age. His life became a true rags to riches story. To this day, doctors aren’t sure what caused his death because he had so many health issues , it yes he was on the toilet when his heart stopped. He was extremely talented becoming a legend overnight having five million dollars sellers in his first year.Loved by millions , he will never be forgotten.

You won't regret diving into his catalogue.
No auto tune, no pitch correction. He loved music and supported other artists. He said that there is room for everyone.
Another thing we love him are the stories about his generosity.
If you like to see him as an entertainer on stage you've got to watch 'Suspicious Minds' live 1970.

He was born in one, in 1935 during the great depression, He gave to Everybody he was a generous humanitarian. He grew up with black people went to a black church and loved black gospel. I was 12 in 1956 when he hit it big. It was segregated country then. White stations would not play black artist till Elvis brought black artist and their music mainstream. He was given a lot of back lash for his association with blacks. You need to see his tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King jr. civil rights leader who died 8 miles from his home in Memphis. See "If I Can Dream" from his 1968 Comeback special on NBC. Thanks you for this great reaction. Be Blessed

I would sub for any genuine Elvis reactions. To truly understand Elvis you need to look at where he was from. Elvis had a hell of a life for a man who died at 42 years old.
He influenced the WORLD, he influence culture, he smashed doors down for Black artist's and barriers of racial segregation. His heart and generosity matched his beautiful soulful voice and his stunning good looks. He had it all, and he was ridiculed at the end when he was very sick. He knew poverty, he knew the cycle of crime, he gave most of his money and jewellery away. There are a lot of recommendations to make where Elvis is concerned.
Go back to the start with an Elvis dive and clear your mind of everything you have heard about him. Elvis was a different himan being. Listen to his actions louder than his critics and when you hear him speak youll know what to believe as true. He's had so much bad press from like 4 people ruining his good reputation. This man changed countless lives, his money even eradicated Polio, he paid medical bills for another artist he respected, and it continued after Elvis died.
Elvis is a legend, his heart is why he is still remembered wirh love nearly 50 years later. Forget the ex wife and stupid rumours about teen girls, as a man born jn 1930s racist America, he was very progressive.
Beautiful man. Long live the King ❤

This was a very intuitive reaction. You totally got it & that’s exactly what Elvis was trying to convey in his message. He did this song well over 50 years ago when other entertainers were afraid to touch it because of its powerful implications. Elvis was told not to do it because it could potentially ruin his career. Being born into extreme poverty himself in Tupelo, Mississippi, Elvis knew first hand what growing up in a ghetto like atmosphere was like & felt like it was a story that needed to be told & he needed to do it. After all of the fame & fortune Elvis received, he never forgot where he came from & tried to help people until the day he died. He was a very special soul. 🖤🎶🖤

Elvis Presley, despite being the premier entertainer in the world, was VERY socially conscious. Over the course of his 20 year career, he helped raise millions of dollars for charities (in today's money), and gave away tens of millions of dollars of his own money. He very publicly stood against racial discrimination at a time when it could have destroyed his career. This song is very representative - his manager and his record label both warned him against recording/releasing this song, and Elvis basically told them to STFU. To learn more about Elvis, you would benefit by watching "Elvis and the Black Community" parts 1 and 2. I hope you will look more deeply into this man's life and music - you will come to love Elvis as we do.

Elvis was his own genre. He often blended Gospel, country, R&B and/or rick and roll into one song. He's in 5 different music Halls Of Fame for a reason.
The song was written by Mac Davis who later became a popular musician himself. It was written because of a kid he went to school with. Elvis lived that life so he was the perfect person to sing it.

Unfortunately, this was a redone version and they left out the end with back up singers where he ends the song very dramatic. For me when they add pictures is distracting to the whole performance. He also had Doctors that over wrote RXs for him and "friends" that worked for him that kept giving him medication. None of the medication he was on was illegal. No one did anything to stop him or get him help. Yes, it was considered Country and Soft Rock.

Elvis didn't die ON the toilet, but a few feet in front of the toilet. The belief is that he got up to call for help from the toilet because he was having a heart attack from the strain of trying to go. Elvis was severelyconstipated from the combined use of uppers and downers. He had a lot of medical problems, some genetic, some from drug use, and general unhealthy lifestyle. He collapsed on the floor and ended up dying. He wasn't discovered for several hours, so it was too late by the time he was found.

Listen to Elvis. You gave me a mountain, dont cry, Daddy, My way .
There was no song that Elvis recorded that he didn't make it his own and the artist who owned the songs that Elvis's cover said that they couldn't every do it as good as Elvis did. Because Elvis's poured his heart an soul into every song he sang.
The one song that he wanted to recorded but never did get to do it was Dolly Parton, I'll always love you. Dolly what Elvis to recorded it but Elvis's managed and con man Parker what Dolly to sell the rights to this song to Parker. But Dolly stated that she wouldn't never sell the rights to any of her song but she was will to give Elvis credit for doing the song. Parker was not happy with this and said that unless Elvis own the rights that he would not let Elvis do the song. Which was a real shame as Elvis would have done great honor to I'll always love you.

Elvis came from a very poor back ground so he knew. Beautiful. Sad. Now you understand. He felt for whoever. No barriers. No racism.

No it is classic and soft rock. Try suspicious minds and bridge over troubled water. Very different songs, shows his versatility.

Elvis was an advocate for the black community. Yes, he lived in a ghetto. He was the king of rock? Wow, you haven't heard that.

And what did Elvis do to be an advocate for the black community? Spell it out for me.

@@bwana-ma-coo-bah425 maybe you shoukd watch , Elvis and the black community. Even this song was refused to be sung by other artist of that Era. He however had the bs to do it against advise. He took up for he's black back up singers when being put prejudicial situations. What you don't seem to understand is he grew up around poor black citizens. So, how much hate in your heart do you have to have towards white people to doubt what I said, to the point where you tried call ME out?

@@robinbeerman4726 Okay. Now this video you want me to watch, do the 3 or 4 black artists that met Elvis, are they
      1. the black community?
      2. do they speak for the black community?
      3. do they speak about their own individual experiences when they met Elvis?
Now, why did it take Elvis from 1954 to 1968 to use any black artist?
Elvis was NOT! the only white boy to grow up around black people. Get over yourself. How did you deduce from my initial comment that I hate white people? And yes, I have and am calling you out. Do you know how I know? Because you won't be able to answer my questions.

Always always gave major respect to his mother and women in general. Because she was the only thing that stood between him and destruction in the ghetto. Elvis lived in the projects and as many of us know it's basically the ghetto. His daddy was a bit trashy in that he never supported the family. Went to prison for writing bad checks or something. For Elvis, his mother was the one holding it all together working crappy jobs. So he recognized that and couldn't give enough props to his mom.

It isn't stated anywhere, but I've always felt that the baby born at the end was the child of the one just shot down. Tragic either way. Elvis sang that song as if it was in the church: prayerful
