Two things that we have come to accept as normal for some reason but are actually completely bonkers: 1) Hot Topic is a place for adults who think they're goth and also want to dress like children from corporate media, and 2) plaid is automatically Harry Potter-related

Fun fact: Yzma had a musical number cut from the movie but it was partially animated and 100% recorded and it's on youtube and it is part of my daily routine to listen to Eartha Kitt singing about snuffing out the sun 😭

I’m like wtf I wanted to sell wide leg Tripp NYC pants, fishnets n Slipknot shirts 😭 Instead I had to have extensive Marvel, Disney n Harry Potter knowledge *and oh can’t forget the fcking funko pop wall of characters I don’t care about* 🤠 They switched gears a looong time ago and to each his own, but in 2021, the inner punk kid in me who never grew up is STILL disappointed 😭😭
my aunt used to take me there when I was super young in the early 2000's and I wanted to be so much like my 'cool emo cousin' only to get there when I was finally a teenager and discover they no longer has the cool section reserved for studded belts 😭

@@leahdavis9434 honestly yeah this is a great point, back in the 90s ht carried more grungy and punk stuff and rlly played up the band shirts and messy glamour aesthetic. In the 2000s they were emo, and in the early 2010s they carried more scene stuff as that gained popularity. Now we’re in the 2020s and the ekid look is gaining traction so of course they carry more chains, anime and pop culture inspired stuff bc that entire typa look is more mainstream.

there's never enough space in the store lmao. it's not that there are too many people in it, but that there is so many shelves and racks shoved into a brick lined closet that you have to do combat with the one other skinny emo to look at the earrings.
@@galeg4021 i used to work there and there was def a disconnect between the people deciding what/how products we were to stock and our store. We didnt have a huge back room (prob as big as a walk-in closet) so we couldnt really have a back-storage of stuff and I felt like absolutely garbage whenever i had to shove MORE stuff onto an already-full rack. Its bc Hot Topic puts out new stuff way faster than people buy it so they demand stores put out the new releases before the previous stuff has sold. And that stems from an issue with trying to keep up with pop culture
