I remember when patterned duct tape was a thing back when I was in middle school/early high school. People would put it on their backpacks and pants; some girls in the school, when roll of tape was almost out, would wear the roll on their wrist like a bangle of sorts. It was... interesting, to say the least.
I remember that the greatest thing you could do with pattern duct tape was to make these horrid DIY flip-flops out of them. Thanks for the violent flashbacks into my childhood.

I bought 1 pair about 5 years ago (when I was in college) wore them maybe once and then wore them on Graduation day. MY FEET WERE KILLING ME. They're just not made for comfort, they're made to capitalize on nostalgia. Also be wary of their clothes, I try to never buy things full price from them
Roars Thanks for the tip! Weird coincidence, but I also wore vintage-inspired oxford heels at my graduation and they hurt my feet SO BAD. (They weren't from ModCloth, but they were still cheap and synthetic and not the best choice for a super hot day when I needed to be on my feet a whole lot). I still have them, I just can't wear them for longer than a few hours. They're perfect for orchestra concerts, though, either to attend or perform in, since I do both. Either way, it's an event that mostly occurs while sitting down, lol.
I've been tempted by ModCloth’s clothes before, but even when they're on sale, I can't justify paying for what’s essentially extra marked up fast fashion just because it’s (imitated) ~vInTaGe~.
As for actual good quality Oxfords, I've heard wonderful things about American Duchess shoes. They’re pricey (the pair I have my eye on are $168), but they're made of genuine leather and the owners are super transparent about using fair labor practices. Remix Vintage also has real leather styles at a similar price point, though I'm less familiar with their sourcing and labor process. I’d much rather save up $168 and invest in a good quality pair of shoes that I can basically wear with any of my favorite outfits than bust $60 on some plastic monstrosities that will kill my feet.
I have a jumpsuit and a dress from there and I like them a lot. But I got them on super sale ($39 and $20) so there better than forever 21 quality wise but I would never buy anything that was on clearance from there
I have a handful of stuff I like from there, but it's nowhere near the quality level where I'd trust them to make good shoes

I feel slightly better about my checkered past where I was obsessed with American Apparel Cali Sun & Fun novelty fabric items (I own ALL THREE COLORWAYS of the crushed velvet leggings that are covered in holographic dots - black, white, and red - AND I have the matching shoulderless crop top in white that I wore with the white leggings one NYE, to be fair I went to an ice skating rink lol but still), so many ‘weird’ or ‘random’ hair accessories (two sparkly black AstroTurf pompom hair ties were particularly egregious), see through EVERYTHING (clear pink plastic circle skirt yes, a pile of neon chiffon items yes, etc), ‘novelty’ Doc Martens, glitter brogues, anything with a bird/s on it (yes, because of that joke but also bc birds), anything with black & white stripes on it (still me tho), anything with 90s rose print or sunflower print and especially babydoll dresses... I could go on but I need to stop I am literally about to cry lol
Honestly, thats not *that* bad lol. My checkered past includes knee length shorts (the most egregious pair being pink zebra print), hoodies, SO many rue 21 punny t shirts, and see through v necks with camis underneath. Then my edgy phase included wearing knee high lace up black boots and a leather jacket every day. It took me till midway through college to care about what I wear 😂😅

once I read somewhere that the cringy things we do when we are young are the ones we remember more fondly, and since then I try to do the things I like without wondering if they are going to make me cringe. I'm 19 and 28 year old me is probably going to have a good laugh watching pictures of me with pink hair, trying to learn kpop choreos and dressing like an anime character, but I feel good right now and I prefer to remember that than to remember how unhappy I was trying to fit in and never be a laughing stock.
