  • With Amp Pedals becoming more and more of a thing these days, we thought we'd put the Orange Amp Stamp to the Test, vs an Orange Amp, and who better to tell us about them both than the guy who designed them?!
    Chris and Ade Emsley, Chief Designer of Orange Amps, discuss the two options, and pit them against each other!

      Is it just for size and weight benefits? because the mk3 rockerverb has attenuator built in. the wattage doesnt really matter sound/volume wise

    Those 2 volume knobs should've been gain knobs. Switching between 2 gain settings would've been more useful

    For a more complete test it should have been on the 4x12 cab but even without it the Terror Stamp kept up. The differences were small to my ears.

    OK, so I found the cabin on it to be like he says just good if you wanna practice.
    What I found is the boss IR 200. Which has remarkable cabinet emulation with so many to choose from. so if I needed to, I can shut off the amp on the IR 200 use the line out from the terror stamp and I have an infinite number of cabinets and set ups that I can send to front of house or through an FRFR.

    Wonder if the stamp would have sounded better through the 4x12?

      What it doesn't do that the Dark Terror does, is get that EL84 power tube distortion. The stamp does great with Preamp gain though. It's a fantastic little amp and I would recommend it to anyone, but don't have false expectations that it's the same as a proper Valve amp. It's a great practice amp, pedal board amp, and a convenient backup to have in your gigbag in case you have a valve burn out during a gig. Nothing beats it for the price. Hope that helps.

      The Terror Stamp is really good sounding (and surprisingly LOUD) through a 4x12! I have both the Dark Terror and the Terror Stamp...the stamp really captures the essence, especially at lower volumes.

    I own a Terror Stamp. The cab sim sounds like crap compared to running through a real cab. I run it through a 4 x12 Marshall cab and it sounds great. Would liked to have heard a true comparison here running it through the same cab.

  • @mowogfpv7582
    @mowogfpv7582 2 года назад +1

    Clearly the DT is better here but I suspect that's mostly due to the analogue "cab sim". Put the stamp through a decent IR and I reckon it would sound indistinguishable from the DT.
    That said I feel like the real gap in the orange range is for a micro crush head as a solid state replacement for the micro terror / micro dark. Compete with those "Boutique Amp Distribution" things. Maybe with valves going up in price it will happen 🤞

  • @nedgey

    Grr. If this was a versus comparison you should have used the same real cabinet. Now we have no idea what the difference actually is because the Stamp is going into a cab simulator DI.

      It's just a preamp, so you need a power amp. Either a pedal power amp or using the power amp section of an amp head

    • @matthewbolduc2714
      @matthewbolduc2714 Год назад

      I agree. This has the effect of confusing casual observers. It makes this amp pedal seem like you have to hook it up in some convoluted way that may not be easily understood by many viewers. Specifically, it is not necessary to hook up the headphone/cab Sim output jack to anything. You can leave it blank. Just plug a speaker cable into the dedicated speaker output on the Stamp and plug the other end into a speaker cabinet. Simple. The cab that you use will simulate itself. The cab Sim is for headphones and recording.
