  • The Simpsons, with 33 seasons and over 700 episodes since it’s release in 1989. I wanted to take a look at the simpsons as a whole, and see how it has changed over its insane run. I looked up the highest rated episodes of each season on imdb, so I can look at the whole series, through the lens of it's best work.

I'm very nostalgic for the pre-HD Al Jean era, as those episodes were being made and syndicated when I was growing up. Calling everything after a certain point "Zombie Simpsons" really does a disservice to the creators and the amount of entertainment they've managed to squeeze out of this single ongoing series.

i'm sorry u lost ur job. i hope things are getting better. fantastic video, underrated channel. i thought this was a creative way to look at the series, picking a episode from each era, it really shows off the differences when put all together.

Thank you so much, that means a lot.
I really wanted to make a video that felt expansive enough, but still doable, because 700+ episodes felt like it would have taken forever

Plus , I think Hank Scorpio is too much a nice guy to be called a villain. That's the other reason why they didn't make him the villain in the movie

Ok, I don't know if I'm wrong, but I am pretty sure that Homer's Enemy has always been the highest rated episode of the series, which means that is also the highest rated of season 8 instead of You Only Move Twice

So when I checked (imdb, always in flux) a few episodes had ties, and whenever they did, I chose what I'd prefer, so maybe this was one of those times

Some insight into the XMas lights for Flanders in the Pilot:
The Greek X was often used to represent Christ in a couple different uses and actually originates from several different churches in the 16th century (Catholic and Orthodox, etc). While there are some groups that take it as offensive, they're usually ignorant or have got a stick somewhere uncomfortable.
Having such lights is well within the "very Christian" Flanders motif

Here it is, the big one! I'm gonna write GSC style comments for this one as I watch:
-Ahhh the Greg Simpsons avatar, very good!
-Yeah every episode would've been a bit much. I might be down to do that for earlier seasons, but I can't do that much modern Simpsons at once lol.
-I think going by showrunner was a good call, considering how much the show seemed to change between them in the earlier seasons.
-Man, I forgot how early Matt Groening ducked out as showrunner.
-Whoa, Lisa's substitute was Dustin Hoffman?? How did I forget that?
-Shouldn't have left the Monorail song out of my medley, smh.
    -Um, actually...yeah who cares.
    -Yes! Steamed Hams!
-Lol I knew You Only Move Twice would be the one for Season 8. It's like, universally loved. As we've discussed before, it's definitely one of my favorites too.
-Yeah the rat milk was pretty fucked.
-Speaking of the Simpsons making up musical songs, I feel like "Where is the rent, I must have the rent!" is probably not actually in Rent. I still love Behind the Laughter though.
-I remember Don't Fear the Roofer as being one of the first episodes after the 2007 writer's strike, possibly the first, and that really marked the transition away from Classic Simpsons™ for me, probably way more than The Principal And The Pauper ever did.
-I was wondering when I would stop recognizing the episodes, looks like it's Season 17.
-Ah yes, Jerkass Homer, here we go!
-But what about Spider-Pig Greg? What about Spider-Pig?????
-Oh hey, Holidays of Future Past! I've seen that one! One of the few modern ones I enjoy. From what I can tell, they also kept the canon established in this future for other future episodes (or it might've been the one established in a previous episode, I don't remember.)
    -Heyyyy, I know that couch!
-Lego episode? Really? I shouldn't even be surprised.
-I still haven't watched the Futurama crossover, though I have seen the Family Guy one, for some reason.
-I think I've seen Barthood, but never actually watched Boyhood lol.
-I can agree with that Golden Age, I remember quite enjoying season 12, and I don't often watch episodes before 4 or even 5. I might even extend it to 13, but it's basically a similar time frame.
-Excellent video good sir! 👌 The hard work really shines in this one, and I'm glad it's finally out there for the world to see. Also apologies for taking so long to watch it, I really wanted to make sure I had a good 40+ minutes (pausing to write comments) to just sit down and only do this. It was definitely worth it 😁

20:28 I always thought Homer was a terrible father and a ginormous idiot and thats the joke of the show. I only really noticed Flanderization in Homer and Flanders. If anything Bart's mischief got toned down over the years.

Speaking on the intermission segment about Marge and Homer's relationship:
    1. I could be wrong, but I belive they kind of relaxed on Homer being TERRIBLE to Marge after the Movie released. And if you remember in the movie Homer does go through some development in that field. Not to say Homer is NEVER shitty again, but I DO remember there being a clear before and after the Simpsons movie feel to the relationship in further seasons.
    2. That's why MY favorite Era of the Simpsons is season 2... The "The Way We Were" episode is super sweet and maybe my favorite "Marge and Homer flashback episode"

The Last Bar Fighter is far from the best episode of Season 32. I much prefer both of the Flanders episodes (Oh Todd, Where Art Thou, & Manger Things, along with the Treehouse Of Horror, & a few others). I have seen The Last Bar Fighter twice & I wouldn’t rush to watch it again. I don’t hate it or anything, I don’t even dislike it (I like modern Simpsons lol) but when I was watching it the first time I think I expected more from the story & I was actually a bit disappointed even in comparison to the rest of the season. I’m surprised that’s the highest rated episode of the season. I only actually watched it the second time because I forgot what episode it was & I was also looking for a different episode which was also about Moe but I couldn’t remember that one either (I forgot the name but it’s the one where Marge encourages Homer, Lenny & Carl to take him out on the town or smth to show what he means to them after Moe attempted suicide)

Hmmm, I disagree with your opinion on the Barthood episode. It's been a top 10 episode for me since it aired.
I don't think that the Bart and Grandpa connection is something they made up strictly for this episode, we've seen that closeness in many episodes prior.
I do think this is the most emphases they ever put on it tho.
I also love how the episode is explores Barts relationship with alot of other members of the family (him and his sister being the most poignant.
I know it gets kinda weird when looking at the canonization of the "flashforward" episodes, but I like to think this is cannon :)

    “The IMDBs are just wrong”
As someone who’s favourite epsiode is one of the lowest rated ever, I fully agree :))
Btw it’s not that I have bad taste, I love all the popular episodes too, I usually DO love the most loveable things, but I do not trust The Simpsons IMDB results for my favourite episode 🤨
My second favourite tho is Bart On The Road 😌

34:30 you’re straight up lying. The difference is so stark that he literally ruins every scene he’s in. You’re seriously just supporting him for political reasons and that’s disgusting.

    • @thegregnorton
      @thegregnorton  11 месяцев назад +2

I mean, when I watched that episode, it wasn't an issue for me, so no, I wasn't lying.
It is more noticeable in other episodes I have watched since, but it doesn't ruin it for me because I don't mind that they got a new voice actor.
And the fact that you have to tell me you think that is "disgusting" says a lot more about you than me.
