      Season 2 is better than 8 in my opinion. So much heart and charm. Stone cold classic episodes and that social and political satire comes in. Season 3 is even better. Far ahead of 8 for me but it does get recognition. Season 2 doesn’t get the love or praise it deserves.

      @@drumyogi9281 Yeah. They were all better than seasons 9 and later. Even season 1 where they didn't hit their stride yet and had more poorly drawn characters was better than the crappy seasons later.
      Seasons 1 and 2 strict Homer was uptight but he still had values and cared about his family, which was definately not true about seasons 9+ Jerkass Homer who'd throw anyone he cared about under a bus just to get what he wanted even if what he wanted was trivial and stupid, which it often was, and he had no common sense whatsoever and was annoying and much less funny than Golden Era Homer. The only bad thing about earlier Homer was his strangling Bart (it appeared that he never strangled him hard enough to actually hurt him, but it was still wrong)

    My personal list goes
    10. Season 10 (this is the “worst” season of the golden era which is miles away from being the worst. This was the first jerk ass Homer season and there was a lot of room for improvement. Either way, it’s still a decent season.)
    9. Season 1 (It was the very first season and they were trying to get things adjusted through the season. Animation was somewhat an eyesore but gradually got better and it was more drama than comedy)
    8. Season 9 (the season where everyone automatically thinks it’s the first bad season and don’t give the following seasons a chance because of The Principal and the Pauper but that episode wasn’t actually the bad. Yeah it was not good but honestly it was a far cry from being the worst episode. The season had much more better than worst episodes)
    7. Season 2 (many say season 3 or 4 even 5 was when the show started to pick up but I say season 2. The comedy improved, the writing and animation as well. Lisa’s Substitute was the very first episode that really made me a big fan of the show.)
    6. Season 3 (Thinking of a season to add to 6 was very hard as this is where I say The Simpsons was on the top of a mountain up to 9. Homer At The Bat was my favorite episode of the season and this is the season where the show knew what they were doing and knew to keep their style on that roll.)
    5. Season 5. (While still being very memorable, it’s not quite as memorable as the next seasons that are added onto the list. But still a great season with one of my favorite THOH episodes)
    4. Season 4. (Marge vs The Monorail is the best episode of the season. Truly a masterpiece. Throughly a very enjoyable season.)
    3. Season 8. (I feel like season 8 deserves more praise because it had a lot of good things to it. Homer’s Enemy and You Only Move Twice were the best episodes in this season and they were able to prove the even 8 seasons in, the show was still at its best.
    2. Season 6 (the reason why it’s not at number 1 is because well, season 7 has more of my favorite episodes in it but season 6 is one for the book. A prefect season with the number 1 best THOH episode.)
    1. Season 7 (Like I wrote before, lots of my favorite episodes are in this season like Who Shot Mr. Burns Part II, 22 Short Films about Springfield, A Fish Called Selma, The Day the Violence Died, Bart on The Road, etc, etc. I can go on forever. This season was very legendary.)

    • @alvexok5523
      @alvexok5523 Год назад

      One of things that Jerkass Homer often did in seasons 9 and after which was so annoying was that he'd tell someone to do something (and often it'd be something very stupid), the other person would begin to question it but Homer would immediately cut them off and say "Do iiit!!!" or something similar in that way. One example is when Grampa desperately needed to use the restroom, and Homer replied "but I need to get home to watch on TV F Murray Abraham"
      Grampa: "But I really need to.."
      Homer: "F! Murray! Abraham!!"
      And then Grampa's kidneys explode.
      That kind of jerkassery from Homer is just not funny.

    Very good: 6
    Great: 3, 4, 5
    The all time best season, in my opinion, was Season 3. The early seasons had the philosophy of let's tell a great story and have a few high quality gags along the way. Later seasons had the philosophy of let's tell a story that can get the most gags along the way. Season 3 is the best of both worlds.

    The more I think 🤔 of it, the more it seems like the first two seasons of The Simpsons (and to a lesser degree the third) were basically an ‘edgy’ 70’s sitcom in the style of Taxi or All in the Family that just happened to be a cartoon. More irreverent, adult-oriented sitcoms had kinda been on ice throughout the 80’s (which favored sappier family-friendly stuff) and the idea behind the Simpsons was to revive them in animated form. Of course, the show ended up evolving beyond that quite a bit. But you really could take many of the seasons 1 and 2 scripts (maybe with a few adjustments) and film them live in a tv studio. That would be impossible with a lot of the 4-10 material.

    Honestly, while rewatching season 8, there are a ton of episodes that feel exactly like 9-11 episode moreso than golden era (jerkass homer, world breaking actions, jokes that don't land).
    So, if 8 can be golden era, than the highly debated seasons 9-11 should also be considered golden era as well.

      I’ve had this thought for years. Why does Season 8 get a free pass but not 9 through 11? Everyone is allowed to express their opinion and I respect that. But for me I just say seasons 1-11 are the classic era. Season 12 amped all of the problems from 11 way high. Then by season 13, we are in full on Zombie Simpson’s.

      My opinion personally, my personal Golden Era is Seasons 3-9. Being more open, the first ten. I felt like Season 9 was just like Season 8 (my favourite Season) just a bit weaker. I felt like Season 10 is only held back because it breaks the formula Season 4 set where itd be 10 Homercentric episodes and the rest they’d explore new ideas. Season 10 is allll Homer. Besides the jokes not landing part. I personally agree, I think at least Season 9, Season 10 and the first half of Season 11 (because the second half is when the show really suffered seasonal and creative rot) besides that I 100% agree

    10. There's a few gems, and I remember loving the first TOH segment (yes, I said first, not last)
    9. Some episodes were good, but others didn't make much sense. I'm not surprised with your best pick - that was great.
    8. The problem is really just that it's still finding its feet. Shocked at your best pick. I'm still looking for a chance to use the "kwyjibo" joke.
    7. The season took itself a bit more seriously than later ones, and that's not necessarily a bad thing, but not all that good. That said, your best and worst picks are pretty much spot on, although I might choose "Old Money' for the worst.
    6. The show really found its feet here. I actually talked about your favourite in my Lit Crit Vlog (that's on here if you want to hear me blab on about how I want to live in this warm, loving family sometimes, because even though I have a perfectly good warm loving family, I wish I had a sibling close in age to me).
    5. I have a soft spot for this season. And hey, it won an Emmy for music. Predictable best and worst, but I don't really agree with them. I saw your worst on TV as a kid and can't hate it.
    4. A bit uneven for my tastes. Higher highs, but lower lows. That said, the good episodes outweigh the bad and it's good to watch. Also, I think I'm the only person who actually likes the season finale.
    3. There's so much fun and heart in this season. It's got possibly the highest highs of any season and very few lows. Kind of shocked at your worst pick, but I can see it isn't the strongest. I didn't like Duffless much, but it has possibly my favourite joke. And yes, it's the one with Homer screaming and jumping out the window at the thought of never drinking another beer.
    2. While I think the last three seasons were stronger, it had so many emotional highs and the best clip show of all-time. But still, Iconoclast the worst? I can name three episodes I liked less. I'd like more detail on that if you don't mind. I respect it, but I'd like to know why.
    1. You've seen me talking about this on TheRealJims' videos. I won't go into any further detail here. But still, props for not choosing Treehouse of Horror as your top pick, although my personal best and worst would be very different (my worst would definitely be The Springfield Connection, and while I don't know what my best would be, the vlog I mentioned uses Lisa's Wedding as a base to talk about her connection to her family).
    As a note, I'd be interested for the teen seasons. You already know how I feel about Season 11, but some of the other seasons pulled through.

This even included a quote from each Simpson. Homer's was easiest: "I've never lost anyone special to me. Everyone special to me is under this roof." (Season 2's "Lisa's Substitute"). So thats my reasoning.

    • @Xavier17.5
      @Xavier17.5 Год назад

      @@MicrowaveHeadVlogs I don't like anything past season 8 because Homer, who is easily one of the best characters of the show, is turned into an asshole who is so mindbogglingly stupid and yet gets no consequences for his stupid actions. Season 2 may be slower, and you may think Season 3 doesn't reach the same highs as Seasons 4-9 (I completely disagree with this) but they also have some of the most intriguing episode concepts, serious or heartfelt moments, and still manage to be really funny without sacrificing consistency, characters, or pacing (unlike Season 9 and 10).

    • @MicrowaveHeadVlogs
      @MicrowaveHeadVlogs Год назад

      @@Xavier17.5 I can agree with episode concepts but the only standout Season 3 episodes to me is “Flaming Moes”, and also “Homer At The Bat.” rest is generally not memorable to me where as Seasons 4-9 I can name at least 10 episodes from the top of my head. And im saying this as Season 3 is my most rewatched Season. Again, I think it has the most consistent home runs. (Heheh get it?) I also think the whole “Jerkass Homer” thing is kind of dumb. Because while episodes stopped ending with Homer and Marge riding in a sunset. Season 9 wasn’t immediate when it got to the point where Homer started chloroforming his wife or would hit her with a dart which would be the tail end of Seasons 11 & early Season 12. Hes also acted like an asshole several times in Seasons 1-8 and I hate when people pretend that Jerkass Homer or whatever you want to call it, didnt exist then because he very clearly was around. I think the difference is he would make it up in those Seasons, Season 9 was less of that. But it was still there. Keep in mind, Season 9 was half run by Mike Scully while the rest was a whole bunch of showrunners. Bill Oakley, Josh Wenstein, David Mirkin and it just goes on. So I think why me personally, it felt fresh. I think the character consistency while a downgrade from 2-8 was still balanced enough to keep the show strong. I know people call Season 9 the downfall from then on. But it was innevitable. Because being honest Seasons 5-8 had no reason to be as good as they were. Eventually things have to change, and Season 9 was the change. I think it only gets a bad rap because Principal and the Pauper, if that episode wasnt included. It would probably be not hated but just looked upon as when the show started to lose its edge, but it was still great. And even then, it was actually meant to be a Season 8 episode in production order. So, why doesnt Season 8 get the hate? I think the Homer you’re thinking of in Seasons 9 and 10 is probably some Season 11 and 12 stuff, because I had no problems with Homer in 9-10. I will say though for Season 10 at least, it absolutely broke the consistency. About every single episode that Season is Homer centred and it gets dull REAL fast. Which is why I rewatch it spiratically. Even then you arent gonna change my mind because ive watched these episodes every day and at this point my opinion is formed as a Simpsons fan I prefer Season 9 over Season 3 and Season 10 over Season 2. Even if those ones were better at emotional beats, I think the show even if the writing wasnt at its peak anymore was so refined that it made a more enjoyable viewing experience to me. I think after Seasons 7 and 8. It really didnt hurt to have some more actual cartoony seasons. And less emotional focused. It just hurt however because the show never ended. I wish Season 8 was the end honestly, but Season 9 was a good extension, I thought Season 10 was good enough to prove its existence. Season 11 however so far (Watching up until Season 14) is my least favourite. And there is some hidden gems in Season 12, but it also simultaneously has the biggest duds. And im gonna be real, Season 13 I prefer over Season 1. The second half of Season 13 was meh, but I thought the first half felt like some Golden Era stuff mixed with the Scully years. Season 14 from what I remember (because i last watched it a year ago) was a step in the wrong direction for me but it is what it is. Also there has been Season 1-8 episodes where Homer is an asshole and gets no consequences. It was just every other season. No where near as frequent as Scullys time on the show. Its not like it was a sudden change out of nowhere.
      Season 8 is my favourite season probably even if Season 6 had a higher score in my data. Because Season 8 had some emotional episodes. But also cartoony and high concept pieces like “You Only Move Twice.” Which might add to why I liked Season 9 as it was just more of that but simmered down, and remove a lot of the emotionial beats. Surprisingly Trash Of The Titans is a top 10 episode for me, sure Homers an asshole in it. But the whole episode is a joy to watch. Same goes for The City Of New York Vs. Homer Simpson which is in my top 3. Again, its just fun. And honestly, sometimes thats all you need. But it gets tiring when it’s kind of all the show does for a decade. I personally feel like a lot of the issues you’re describing i only noticed in later seasons of the show. Maybe i just missed something but i highly doubt it if ive rewatched Season 9 and other Golden Era seasons almost daily. Also, Season 3 im pretty sure scored out to an 8.1 on average, I think I gave Season 9 an 8.4, Season 2 had a 7.5, Season 10 had a 7.8. Thats me ranking every episode individually and not the Season. Then I averaged it out for the Season and those are the scores. Numbers dont lie (for me at least). I enjoyed Season 9, more than 2 and 3. And nothing will change my mind!

      @@MicrowaveHeadVlogs I think I'm just biased against Mike Scully. It's like he's never even watched the show, it's still good, but it's not Simpsons, and for me at least, it's considerably worse than Seasons 2-8. I also think the inconsistency, change in characters' behaviors, and being less grounded in reality contributes to it not being considered golden age for many people. Part of the show's success at first was how grounded in reality and adult it was, this may sound weird in hindsight with all the episodes that came after, but matt groening wanted the show to be a cartoon that was grounded in reality. that's why he hated "a star is burns" because it was quite absurd. and every season, the show lost a bit of that, and it gets to a point where it's gone too far. i like the absurdity of seasons 4-8 but season 9 is where it crossed the line for me. the thing about principal and the pauper kind of makes sense to me, season 8 was very experimental. i dont like principal and the pauper unlike some season 8 episodes though because it changed the canon in a huge way, it completely changes skinner's character, he's a fraud. and in the second half of the episode, the whole town just forgets about the whole thing and we never see the real skinner again. and with how unoriginal and boring modern simpsons jokes are (partly because of the bad writers and partly because they've already done so much with the show), they bring it up almost whenever skinner is talking. im sure i remember it being worse than it really was, but anything after season 9 that has skinner in it is just a worse experience because they either have to bring it up or its just in the back of your mind. another thing is i remember that being the start of more celebrities guests playing themselves rather than a character. i hate modern simpsons much more though. the jokes are more unoriginal and unfunny. the characters act way differently, there's even more celebrities playing themselves. even the animation has gotten more lifeless.

    Seasons 4,5 and 6 are my GOATs. The animation. The humor. The tone. *chefs kiss*
    7 and 8 is way too sentimental for my tastes. And yeah after that it went downhill fast. I even realized this as a teenager.

    The DVD commentary on feature is very interesting. Starting with season 2, the first two episodes are explained in great detail by James Brooks and Al Jean. The real genius are people like David Mirkin, David Silverman, George Meyer and their most prolific writer John Shwartzwelder. Highly recommend.

    I agree with this list except for season 1, it's too far removed from the series and to me that's the bottom cause it's too serious and barely wacky. My personal favorites are seasons 3, 6 and 7 for the fact that season 3 starts the guest stars as themselves but in the guise of Simpsons characters and 6 and 7 has to be watched back to back cause it flows as one unit the best thanks to Who shot Mr Burns part 1 & 2 so thanks to this everything in these seasons feel like a natural progression instead of a quick change like other seasons when the writers switch.

      It's hard for people to remember now, but compared to the absolute garbage people were watching in the 70's and 80's, even something as tame as Season 1 came off as subversive as hell

    • @drebone1986
      @drebone1986 Год назад

      @@LordSluggo Oh I remember, that's why I watched cause even as a kid I realized this is something else plus I noticed my dad was a fan of season 1 but somewhere along season 2 the world found out he watched cartoons and worse the Simpsons and he stopped. They were basically so controversial back then people were boycotting and the president got involved so when I say season 1 is the worst I'm not saying I ever hated it, in fact I'm very nostalgic for it but for what the show evolved into later by season 2 I feel like it's the only time The Simpsons was connected to our world which is the most 1980s-early 1990s it could possibly be. For me it works cause I lived thru it but for today it feels like something too old but still full of gems, just too old tho. Not one kid today can meme a piece of it unlike season 2 and up cause they don't understand the 80's and 90's world fully, they just like the fashion/music not the politics and social commentary it was doing back then so brillantly. At best I've seen essays done by my generation talk about Homer about to end it all and that's it. Nobody talks about Homer needing his family to be so perfect in the eyes of others that he tries shock therapy to get them to conform nor do they discuss Bart understanding he doesn't need to be a know it all like Lisa 24/7 to please society. Society is pleased no matter how much or little you give them so long as you're thought of as better than others nobody will check to see if you truly are until it's too late to matter. Not one video touches on season 1 from this angle cause that's what kids today are missing from that world from back then, they just live in the world after the Simpsons already shaped for them so to them it's stale or a quick watch, to us it's nostalgia cause we remember the world's view with this episode. I remember it all which is why I'm still a current fan

    6. Season 9
    7. Season 1
    8. Season 10
    9. Season 6
    10. Season 5
    Let me explain why I dislike seasons 5-6: There were cartoonish and outlandish storylines that didn't fit into the slice of life realism of The Simpsons standard or seasons 11-15 which these seasons I find even worse due the similar problems. The characters are making meta jokes about themselves and things come true on a ridiculous and weird manner, whenever somethings spoken on cartoon tropes. While the characters were still likeable, they felt a little bit zanier and dumber compared to the other golden age seasons. The jokes felt into the surreal and bizarre territory like the Itchy and Scratchy robots are attacking, an Martian being one of the members of the Stonecutters, the gang from the Archie Comics, Homer falling off the cliff in a Roadrunner style, Bart getting an elephant, and of coarse that STUPID It's a Mad, Mad, Mad Mad World reference at the end of Homer the Vigilante. Sure season 9 also went into this territory but this is due the fact that it was a little gags and Mike Scully has little style as showrunner before it really went into decline during season 10 with his surreal style. Sure there were some memorable and best episodes that I liked such as "And Maggie Makes Three", Bart of Darkness", " Bart's Girlfriend", "Lisa's Rival", "The Last Temptation of Homer", "Homer's Barbershop Quartet", Cape Feare", "Lisa's Wedding" and "Lisa vs. Malibu Stacy", but the rest of the episodes were so in the middle of the surreal, self deprecation and outlandish territory. So in actually seasons 1-4, 7-9 were for me the golden age of The Simpsons.

    I prefer season 2 and definitely season 3 to 8. 8 is great but has episodes that weren’t as grounded and was the point when some foibles started to show, although not much. 2 has such charm and heart, it also brings the social and political satire in. Season 3 is pretty much top tier for me, I far prefer it 8.

    No post-Season 6 season should be rated above a pre-Season 6 season. _The Simpsons_ got worse every time I entered a new school. Season 7 corresponded with middle school. The show was noticeably not as good as prior seasons. Season 8 was high school and the New York City episode (which I didn't like) was followed by the Armin Tamsarian episode. I then understood that _The Simpsons_ was on an inevitable decline.

    Reading the comments, there are various differing opinions but I think the Simpsons peaked in Season 6. Season 7 - 8 were good and each had some great episodes, but some episodes weren't as memorable as the classics from previous seasons. Seasons 3-6 were the God tier and season 2 really picked up steam towards the end and was fantastic. I must say I mostly agree with everything said here.
