- The Simpsons sits among the pantheon of most successful and influential television series of all time with hundreds of episodes over the course of more than thirty seasons. It isn't uncommon to see lists of "The Greatest Episodes of All Time" or "The Top 10 BEST Simpsons Episodes", but the seventeenth episode of Season 4, "Last Exit to Springfield", has always intrigued me. And now I think I've finally pinned down what's so great about it: everything about this episode fits together to create a great tapestry of comedy and commentary.
The inspiration to make this video comes from the podcast Escape From Vault Disney, which covered this episode in September 2021. The specific episode of the podcast can be found here: escapefromvaultdisney.libsyn....

Even the ending is corny on purpose...what a genius moving satire
Nice use of the Hit & Run soundtrack
This one is probably my favourite episode. I also really like Rosebud and Bart of Darkness.
The scene lisa holds the paper that says you are lisa simpson just feels heavy animation wise....it's such a good scene with real weight
That’s a great episode. IMO, Hoffman was probably the best guest star. I think he was also the first major guest star on the show.
I really enjoyed this video. Well done! Great video game and TV commentary
Hey! Listen! Great video my guy, didn't watch it originally as I've not thought about The Simpsons for nearly 20 years, but I'm glad I came back and gave it a shot. Would be awesome to have more non-gaming content like this.
Man, I found this channel because someone in a Discord I'm in had just posted one of your Final Fantasy retrospectives (which I will watch as well) but The Simpsons is one of my favorite shows of all time. I feel like you're one of the only channels who cares to analyze specific episodes (more, please?) in such a way that do the intent of the episodes justice, rather than just trying to interpret the plot and subtext in an obtusely-inferred way that just sensationalizes the whole delivery and purpose of the episodes (and thus, the youtube video.) I genuinely laughed when you described the delicate balance between Homer's stubbornness and ineptitude, referencing the part where he goes and takes a wizz on the carpet - which not only was a great statement of his character, but was the literal event. That was an excellent sentiment on your part, and a stroke of brilliance on the writers' part, legitimizing the quality of his character by literally demonstrating it. Great job.
P.S. I was not anticipating the "and that's the tooth!" at the end, which also caused me to laugh a bit.
I rewatched this episode on TV today. It is absolutely flawless.
So many memorable moments.
Damn we will never get another Simpson video from him after the clout of the FF retrospective series (which I also adore)
this channel is so fucking good
lol. I was just thinking about the "Lisa needs braces" scene this afternoon.
Happy Labor Day! I thought this was the best episode 30 years ago (gasp!) when it first came out and pleased the majority in recent years have agreed.
the best one is Homers Triple Bypass. Season 4. Starts out with "Cops" and goes from there
You should post this on the Simpsons subreddit it deserves more views
Thank you for the kind words, but the subreddit always struck me as just a place to repost screencaps and quotes. Most subreddits often have self-promotion policies, too, which limit the number of self-promotion posts to 10:1 of a user's submissions on a given sub.
Not sure if this would get attention or even be allowed there since I've never posted in the subreddit.
Homer wins cause he's earnest and himself and not trying to pull a fast one but by being a good leader and thats why it sticks with me...he doesn't trick burns or out think him or learn something about himself to win...he just is himself and outlasts burns which is basically what the point of a strike is to outlast the big corporation...simple...he doesn't mess it up by trying too hard like he would now and thus he doesn't give up..but he doesn't do much to win...he unknowingly understands his side has leverage and burns will have to give in cause he needs employees...and he needs the right ones not idiots.....this isn't a job you can replace your entire staff with that easily Iike say retail workers....you need degrees to work at a nuclear plant...that's the point...
Lore of The Holistic Brilliance of "Last Exit to Springfield" momentum 100
This episode has b plot but its connected in many ways to the main plot which I prefer......it's not a side story that's unrelated used just for comedy but has no real weight or emotions.....which I usually don't prefer...the obvious one that comes to mind being that sugar plot with homer that dives into realms of fantasy unbelievable insanity which is funny but just there to fill up time and not relate to the story just be cutaway gags which are great but don't matter...so you forget which ep it's attached to....you care about lisa in this b plot...cause it ties to the motivation for homer to succeed and not quit and motivate everyone else
Best Simpsons Episode.
Homer can't afford the braces cause he never gets promoted bonuses or raised income for being a terrible worker for years...he's not that selfish...if he could afford it he would
