You worry too much mate, great channel, great content, great business, great family and all fully deserved as you have put the effort in. Don't let the green eyes bring you down, and don't give them the oxygen they crave in their sad little world by responding to or even acknowledging their comments. Your doing good stuff mate and long may it continue 👍👍

I was fitting out two large industrial units next door to a CEF, the manager came round to ask if I want to open an account, as it looked bad other wholesalers delivering a few times a day next to CEF, I said no as there prices are stupidly high!

Looks like the customer was quite capable and competent to do the job himself but probably needed a certificate!

    • @VanyaYani
      @VanyaYani 2 месяца назад

The problem is if you get caught you will be prosecuted. That's why this whole electrician certification industry exists. If the rules were less strict, electricians would've made a lot less and thus homeowners would be more cautious. That's the paradox of regulation. You introduce it to make things safer, but the overhead cost incentivizes to make things less safe and it balances out.

Hope your doing ok nick. You look abit stressed. Ignore the keyboard warrior's out there. You guys do a great job and I doubt very much that these people that slag you guys of would dare put there stuff on RUclips out of fear that they are rubbish . It takes guts to do what you guys do. Went into CEF for an earthing nut. Showing in stock at this store on website.
Wait 20 minutes. "Sorry "In Stock in store" means we can get it tomorrow"
Ok - can I get some nuts, bolts, washers, I'll need to do it old way, needs finishing today.
Wait 15 minutes. That will be £46 !!!! (10 of each).
Manager wheeled out to argue with computer for 10 minutes. Finally £8
Not exactly screaming "come back" is it....!

40 years ago when I was contracting CEF had a bad rep then and it seems things have not improved, I seem to remember something about their staff working on commission if true that would go some way to explain their prices and attitude, but one thing for sure I remember well that you have to keep an eye on who ever you use as they tend to rely on you becoming lazy where checking your invoices are concerned so it pays to shop around.

  • @joemoore9991

Totally agree about CEF. They done exactly the same with us. Used to say you bought 1000 screw for say when you bought 100. I think they get away with it with big firms so just try their luck

Had exactly the same with CEF.
I had bought some uncommon items from them as a DIY customer years ago at what seemed a reasonable price.
But back when I was starting out as a proper spark I had to get some accessories from them to match an existing installation and they wanted to charge more than double for what's basically own brand than I could have got MK or Crabtree for.
Even showing my NAPIT registration card didn't get them to budge on price.
Spoke to customer, changed all accessories to MK in those two rooms and job still cheaper.
The last pisstake was £5+vat for a 1 gang back box for their brand of dado trunking.
I use Eyre & Elliston as my primary, they've been spot on with me from day one.
    Banjo in the CU? Why?
Earthing Nuts are the future. More than pay for themselves not having to faff about drilling extra holes.

Some wholesalers like CEF/Travis are setup for the mega contracts from big goventment and social repair companys. They get the big discounts. And the price before discount has to look big so theire customers feel the scam price they charge for the jobs are fair. If you haven't got 20,000 staff your lucky to get 1% discount. I've been using TLC and Plumbase for years. If you know a manager or two you can get a deal for your own house, but for a job, they can't really help you out because of reasons from above. When the first lockdown happened a travis helped me out with a big juicy discount as I thought well if I am stuck at home, I might as well finish doing it up. Travis used to own wickes and you know how much cheaper that is.

Where is the 3m limit on tails measured from?
    1) the isolator (fitted and sealed by the DNO)
    2) the meter or
    3) the main fuse?

Yeah a hardware store that I had an account with was selling items to others but charging me. Got a password placed onto my account, was good for a month then the same thing started happening. After 2 years of fighting them they took me to court for non payement and I got the court to close the account and only had to pay the couple of things I had invoices for and used the "I cannot afford this" card and got to pay them off at $10 per fortnight.
Yes I could have paid it out in full but for them to harbour a staff member that gave my details out and allowed others to use my account I got petty. Out of the 1500 owing I only had to pay about 200 of it and they were not happy about it.
Have never dealt with them in the last 10+ years even though they are the cheapest.

I thought split concentric was more of a DNO supply cable than an installation cable.
It has been used on the supply at my house, where the system is still TN-S.

It is disgusting the way trade counters often behave. I looked on CEF's site for some wire last week, £42.50 for a 100m roll. Called my local CEF and spoke to the girl I know, they had it in stock and it would be £27.00. I have no account, I am not an electrician but a self-builder and strike up relationships with trade counter staff that I am going to use for the build. But that is a heck of a jump!

CEF is a joke. There are a few places like that, where they just charge "take the mick" prices if you don't have an account. Then you get an account and some items are still expensive. Literally every trip to Lawsons or Jewsons or AT&T electrical is the same. "Do you have an account", yes, ok the price is £65 for a tonne of sand. NO it's not. It's £38 inc. "what did you pay last time". I don't really remember but I know you have done it £38 inc before". I can't find that on the system... grrrrr!! It's why I always just go to Screwfix / Toolstation / Builder Depot now. They don't summarily take the mick. How does CEF even exist? Do they serve people who put through over 10k of business, and then they get treated like kings?! I totally understand the need to give preferential prices to good customers or those in the trade, as it's less after-sales for them than the consumer market. But don't literally DOUBLE the price if you don't have an account!! Add 15 or 20% if you want to keep consumers out!

I knew CEF before most of you were born (!Yikes!) and they were just starting oult in London -- so I have a ft spot for the name... However, they have gone astray "somewhat" . A shame because they do tend to stock intems that others don't - and that can be useful...
Regardless the market will decide and I suspect if their management is asleap, then the company will disappear. As they say in my late bisuness - caveat emptor

I got a call from the account manager at Bolton CEF, Jack?? Told him he was £20 more on an RCD plus other stuff. He said I’ll email you. Never did. Crap customer service at best.

Hi Adam and Nick. Oh no! It's the end of Nick! Late to drive his daughter to a birthday party. If she doesn't do him in, his wife might. All videos may now be on Adam's channel? LOL
