Just addressing a few people's concerns with the tracking and using studio lights. I do want to be clear I don't normally have studio lights on at all, I only have them on here for the purposes of filming the video. Cameras definitely need light. The Studio lights are off on any other occasion and were off during the hours and hours I spent with this headset, with the exception of the 20-30 minutes of recording me playing specifically for this video. Hopefully you all understand! Much Love, Thrill
You might have too dark room and your floor is too plain, no carpet with patterns. This is inside-out tracking and it needs to track against something. Install 1200 lumen ambient light there on a ceiling, do not flood G2 with strong directional light. Ambient light. Put a carpet there with some pattern on it. Quick tip: After plugging-in the G2 via USB show your central point to WMR and later select "seated play" (or standing if you need boundaries) in WMR and stand in your main central pivot point you wil play your games. Click Center in WMR app (or SteamVR menu button). It is very important to do this, to set exactly the central spot you will play your games. With seated play you do not have boundaries so be careful. Cameras remember the surrounding this way. I do it every time I plug-in my VR goggles. You will have great tracking I am sure about it. My Odyssey+ has only 2 cameras, but it has PERFECT tracking in Pavlov VR. I am able to aim the highest distances in WW2 maps and snipe people from 100 meters. Such review is harmful to PC VR and is not right, simply not true. I think you might have good intentions, but tracking part was something wrong. See my video with Odyssey+ ruclips.net/video/JgrR4t2_R8E/видео.html
With tracking issues being reported by: ThrillSeaker EricForPresident Cas&Chary Tomshardware I think it a real issue. Others saying it fine (MRTV and tyrell woods) seem to be more casual players and MRTV has a was of being very hyped/enthusiastic about things. Many in the right environment it work better, but it should work without having to do too much to find the perfect conditions.
@@RojasTKD7 MRTV and Tyriel are right. They are VR enthusiasts and know how to setup things right for VR in their rooms. See my comment above and the video. That was Odyssey+ with only 2 cameras and it works great. WMR is not ideal, but it works good now.
I was only wondering because I absolutely loathe it. It sounds like show tunes or something that a burlesque dancer would use. And if we're being honest, burlesque dancers are really just chicks that are too fat to be regular strippers. But seriously, I can't sit through this guy's videos with that music in the background. I walked more of his stuff if he'd switch up the music. It's beyond awful.
@@ericborn382 hey man, I'm glad you do. It's not like I enjoy NOT liking it and the content is otherwise great. If I could make myself like it, I would. I'm not contrarian by nature.
thrillseeker has evolved so much since the start its turned into so much more than it was orginally and its been cool to be along for the journey! ily man
That's a lot of setup for a 4K trade off. I honestly don't think it's worth it. if you have the controllers already then go for it but still spending $600 and having controllers you're not going to use is still kind of sucks
My man I dunno if that would work because they're built to react to light houses you'd have the same problems because the way the sensors are laid out are made to be looking outwards to light houses. So I expect the only way to use them is to buy light houses, which means you may as well just buy an index
yeah! +1 - planning to switch from index to G2 due to higher res and wondering if u forget abot the FOV when the tracking stays the same ;) PS: In EU there is a version sold without Controllers: 1N0T4AA compared to 1N0T5AA full set.
Bubble Nugget even quest2 could play pc games outside of its own curated store. So fuck off psvr they are dead if they don't release a better version of psvr2 before 2022
This was a great first impressions video. When people started talking about the visuals being better than the Index, I started to get upset and feel like I made the wrong choice (since I only got my Index in September). Now that I know there are so many tradeoffs, I'm happy with my decision. Index is clean with its 144hz visuals and huge FOV. Thanks Thrill!
I've used a lot of headsets now and I can say after lots of VR use refresh rate starts to make a huge difference when you start to get really comfortable in VR. I can see all the screen tears when I turn my head in anything less than 120hz which makes index the best in class
I just got my index. I did a lot of research on the G2 before hand but still went with the index. Not only does it have higher fov/fps but the tracking and controllers mean a lot to me. The knuckles controllers are a lot more immersive imo (I’ve used the rift s in comparison which is exactly the same as the G2 controllers). The G2 is still a very great headset for someone on a bit more of a budget and/or don’t have room for base stations.
Yeah don't worry. All headsets have their compromises at this point in VR's early stages. No headset that exists is perfect as they all have tradeoffs. Just go for what is affordable and the best for your use case, which in your case is the Index!
Same here, Elite:Dangerous on the Rift S is awesome but I lack some immersion because of the resolution/screendoor effect.. same in Dirt Rally and other sitting games.
Thrill keep in mind that Studio lights, Reflective windows and other such things could throw off the tracking as it is tracked by the lights. they arent using the Oculus's Infrared tracking as they patented that. so those types of things could mess with the tracking in certain amounts.
Yeah, I only had the studio lights on for the video. I don't normally have them on of course, just ya know... cameras need light and stuff. Figured I would get some flack for it, i'll probably pin a comment.
@@ThrillSeekerVR The problem I see there is you might have too dark room and plain surfaces. Add 1200 lm ambient light there, a carpet with patterns, some stuff for G2 to track against. Cheers
I was really going to get a quest 2 until I saw more about all the problems people have with it. I was almost willing to put up with making a facebook account and data sucking, but throw potentially not even being able to use the system at all and that just tips everything over the edge. No confidence in oculus anymore.
When I first set up and tested out my Reverb G2, my heart sank because the controller tracking was literally comparable to what you showed in your review of the *"DPVR HMD VR E3 4K GAMING COMBO".* BUT... It wasn't until a day later that I realized that the headset looks for a series of staggered point lights on the controllers, and MY ENTIRE ROOM IS LINED WITH STRING LIGHTS.
That was soo cool. I saw this old album on the floor in a 'ghost video' called "music for dancing" and went to find it (here on tube) and I LIKED IT! This reminded me, of the music they played inbthe Ballroom at the Shining hotel,. big, bold dramatic romantic music...
Congrats for the VR Award: Best VR-Influencer :-) I'm really looking forward to my G2. I'm coming from a PSVR and I think it will be a huge upgrade in every way. I never tried a other headset so I can't miss the better tracking and the wider FOV. I assume the higher resolution will be breathtaking :-D
@@YouInVR It really doesn't though. pretty much every review has commented on the lacklustre tracking on the G2. People defended the Cosmos tracking as well, we all know how that turned out.
Haven’t seen your review yet but every review I’ve seen so far seems to play down any flaws. Hoping it’s honest and good. Post-Watch edit: This seems more legitimate than the other reviews I have seen. Thanks thrill (or good job on being good at hiding the truth if that is the case, lol)
Aside from MRTV and Tryiel Wood everyone else has ragged on the tracking. Virtual Reality Oasis, Cas and Chary, TomsHardware have all said the same as Thrillseeker. On the plus side, I've not seen anyone disagree that the visuals are the absolute best so far.
@@kevinbrook7033 I think MRTV has a business model that's all about creating hype about a product. Everything is simply absolutely AMAZING!! In that way he can create 1000 videos about a product and get everyone really excited. He will then get tons of likes and subscribers. The downside is that he can't focus on the negative because that would work against him. So he isn't bought, it's more of a win/win situation - until other reviewers get the same product.
@@JOXperience yeah I don't even need to watch one of his videos to know exactly what goodness is coming up and that everything will be amazing and that the words HP Reverb G2 will take up half the total script.
@@i_fish6657 WMR has had pretty consistent software support and has notably improved a few times each year since it came out. Source: My Odyssey+ gets much more consistent use than my Quest or Rift, and i started with the 1st gen Asus. The Oculus' only come out for exclusives/OhShape.
I don't know if anyone's said this already, but it seems HP is aiming to become the go-to brand for the professional environment VR niche (like online VR conferences where you're sat in an online meeting room with a Dutch CFO to your left and a Japanese CEO to your right while looking at a PowerPoint). The price being enthusiast-grade, the top of the line resolution, and the sub-par refresh rate and field of view (as far as an enthusiast device goes) tells me this is probably going to be bundled alongside an HP workstation (those with Xeon processors and Nvidia Quadro GPUs) that high ranking executives go for rather than a 3090. I've seen an eerie amount of executives talk about how despite having a comfortable office, a clear microphone, and a great camera, they despise work-from-home meetings because they feel sharing a physical space with whoever they're talking with is vital. Beyond that, the idea of cutting down on intercontinental business trips by moving to a sort of professional VR chat sounds like heaven for people who want to work more efficiently or simply spend more time with their families. I mean, even ignoring the fact that a 1.5k VR setup is undisputably a dirt-cheap alternative when compared to the total price of a trip, you can't put a price tag on spending more with your family (you can, however, put a very pretty price tag on not having to go on an exhausting 3-day trip which slashes productivity). I think HP knows where they're going and they're partially using the videogame market to give their new project some momentum and attention from more lucrative clients. This doesn't mean they're being slimy in any way; the more people that buy their products the better for them. I just think they're being very smart about who they're planning to primarily cater to.
Glad I jumped to the index instead, the 120hz is fantastic too and the screen is alright for me personally (especially with super sampling) Great review, thanks Thrill!

Rift s is better because of the 5th camera. G2 only has 4. You'd of thought that hp would've known better by now and would've did the same top camera placement and added a 5th. Not smart imo
@@Vr_Demon_ Do you have a G2 and have you actually experienced an issue? It sounds more like you're just making a uneducated statement based on the number of cameras alone. The Quest and the Quest 2 also "only" have 4 cameras, the tracking is great on those too.

Thank you for the honest review! I have been watching MRTV, also called G2 Promotion channel, and so many of these issues are not even addressed! Subscribed!
I tried the G2 for myself, MRTV basically addressed everything there is to address, which includes the things in this vid. I myself go sus of MRTV, seemed overly positive, but I can confidently recommend the G2 after having it for about a month almost
For sure getting knuckles with my reverb! I'll just have to make due with the ones provided until I can get index trackers. The knuckles also work with the original vive lighthouse bay stations which is a huge plus!
Watch out for the dongles you need to connect index controllers with, as far as I can tell none are available right now. That is the discontinued steam controller dongle and the vive tracker dongle.
Sketchy dongle with no case. Doesn't seem made for consumers, but you really need to come up with a case for them. But good to see there's still one option around.
@@Woogoo336 If you want ones made for consumers with no need to program / flash anything you will need to wait for Tundra Labs to restock (Jan 2021) or contact Vive directly and try and order the Vive tracker dongle by itself.
@8:25 If You loose tracking IN FRONT is the most likely light from outside coming from the windows. The WMR controllers requires some kind of light control. Direct sunlight is a big nono as they use visible light LEDs (downside vs the competition). If incoming light is equally strong as the LEDS - cameras cant see the LEDs = loss of tracking. Nice quick review. Check out MRTV for all the details on G2 - independent reviewers = info can be trusted.
Not true at all. G2 has perfect tracking as my Odyssey+ has only 2 cameras and has perfect tracking in Pavlov VR: ruclips.net/video/JgrR4t2_R8E/видео.html
@@YouInVR yeah but wmr portal when I had my odyssey + was so buggy and terrible even if it did have good tracking it wouldn't matter when it takes you 40 mins before it all worked correctly

Thank you for the great impressions-video. I'm a fresh owner of a HTC Vive Cosmos Elite headset + Base Stations & Index Controllers. I REALLY wanted to get into VR RIGHT NOW (new lockdown incoming) and I do not regret the purchase, because the Cosmos Elite has great picture quality, good sound and the tracking is just really, really incredible. The headset has some problems with the small sweet spot and the FOV might not be amazing, but apart from that I'm satisfied - especially since I got both the bases + the headset quite a bit cheaper than they are usually being sold for. Your video just showed me again that it was the right thing to do, to not wait any longer for the G2/Decagear.
let me know what you thinnk after getting it. I have the Rift S, visuals are far better than my psvr 3 years ago, but i want real clarity. Let me know how the controllers actually perform for you pplease

@@AzeShorts The only question I have is when in boneworks if you go to reach for a weapon behind you, does the tracking bug out? @@AzeShorts okay, thanks for the info. Sounds like it'll be better tracking than the rift anyways lol, so that pretty much settles it for me. I'm just pumped for the insane graphics compared to my crappy rift😂
I love how the reverb g2 is basically just an inside-out index with higher res screens and oculus touch controllers (the best ergonomic vr controller). I know they aren't really oculus controllers, but the base shape of the controller minus the tracking rings are practically identical. as an previous CV1 owner and a current index owner, I sometimes miss the shape of the oculus controllers.
@MrBleach401 Yes, but it's a pain in the ass to configure with just another software on top and you have to calibrate it manually and repeatedly. An additional officialy supported tracker on the headset would solve that.
Thanks for these early impressions. My current setup was so far HTC Vive + Index controllers, I'm eagerly waiting for my G2, I intend to continue using the Knuckles (+Vive trackers) with this headset, my steam controller dongles are flashed and ready... Can't wait :-) (Will probably need a GPU update but that's another story)
After lots of comparing I went with the G2 instead of the Index and I'm really glad I did. There are some hurdles to get over but Sebastian Ang's channel is a treasure trove of the technical things HP doesn't mention in any instructions. I had to get completely different rechargeable batteries since the controllers really need 1.5v to work properly (energizer and other popular rechargeable are only 1.2v while non-recharging AA's are 1.5v) and they've been great aside from the expected tracking volume limitations. The USB connection can give Ryzen users issues too unless you use a powered USB 3.0 hub. Well worth it for how amazing the screens look. It made me start Half Life Alyx for the 40th time just to see it in that fidelity. FYI: EBL makes 1.5v recharging batteries that work great. Just make sure you use their charger instead of your existing one!
Nice video. Really interested in combining the reverb with the knuckles. Also looking forward on using the reverb in other rooms without base stations.
@@nickperfetti7976 That's generally what I'm hearing. But some people still think the G2 tracking isn't good enough. It will probably work for me, guess I'll see for sure in a month.
You should get the whole index kit. First off. This thing isn't a valve index killer. It is just clickbait. The index has 144hz mode for future-proofing. Best controllers on the market. Best tracking. (Not inside out BS that loses tracking sometimes) and just better build quality. The res that the index has is enough. It basically eliminates SDE. Also, the best FOV which isn't too much that distorts (Pimax). So you don't need to get the G2.
Never once lost tracking with inside out even with echo arena. and the build quality of the index was terrible when it first released. controller thumbstick issues and straps falling apart on people after months of use.
@@Dreadpirateflappy Oh so you are only mentioning the negatives? I do agree that the screen is pretty good. What I can't stand is controllers losing tracking behind or a bit above your head. Inside out isn't reliable compared to laser base station tracking. playing beat saber with my quest + link, for example, I get a bunch of controller disconnects and what not. Really immersion breaking. Same with the FOV. It's not as good as the index. Also, Valve is really good at helping people that got a bad product so whatever you say doesn't matter. RMA works every time.
@@tigerleon10 Just as you only mentioned the positives to the index... it was a counter to your comment. Inside out doesn;t lose tracking the second you put your hands behind your head, predictive tracking is insanely accurate and gets it right every single time when reaching for weapons etc. Something wrong with your quest controllers by the sound of it, with my rift s and quest 2 I haven't ever had a disconnect. neither are perfect headsets, but the tracking is not an issue. RMA with Valve is great, but they did release poor quality controllers at first which is at odds to what you said in your original comment.
@@Dreadpirateflappy So... Still not going to agree with all the negatives of the refresh rates, no full finger tracking, not the BEST reliable tracking on the market. Also, it isn't insanely accurate. It might be accurate. For maybe 0,5 seconds then it loses tracking. I've had multiple occasions with both my friend's rift S and my quest when I put it too far behind and above my head, I lose tracking for maybe 1 second and that is making me lose my combo in beat saber. Even guns in Pavlov or any other FPS game I get weird spasms with the scope if the headset can't see the controller.
@@Dreadpirateflappy Why are you dissing the Index for something that happened when it was FIRST released? Those issues have been resolved now and my Index controllers work fine.
Shipping can wreck any computer parts. I've seen metal pc cases surrounded by those wonderful 6"+ foam fillers still somehow take a beating during shipping, and those are just plastic controllers. Imo it's not an issue as long as the supplier deals with it, and seems like they did. HP are generally pretty easy to deal with.
Get a quest 2 the time I have had with windows mixed reality portal was horrible I would have to set up boundaries Every time I play it, it would not recognized the headset was plugged in, it would be a miracle to get it to play for 50 mins with out a crash but that was before the software update for the g2 came out so it could be more stable but still probably not as stable as a quest or quest 2 I actually upgraded to a quest 2 just a week ago and it was 200 times smoother for set up and user friendliness and that was when I was using VD pcvr streaming wirelessly

I bought the CV1 and loved it. I bought the RiftS and dealt with blurriness on my non dominant eye due to crappy IPD. I bought the Quest2 and even though my frame rate is great everything in SteamVR stutters when I sidestep or turn, oculus store titles are silky smooth. Support for Oculus and Steam both say it’s not their issue and the forums are full of people with the same issue for a YEAR now. I’m done with oculus, once the G2 starts shipping for real I’m getting one and selling all three of my oculus HMDs.
Are you SURE you hadn't just accidentally set (or forget to change) a higher than expected resolution (& thus were super-sampling) within SteamVR??? (Aka NOT the Oculus app's Link resolution but the resolution set inside SteamVR!) Because that's basically ALWAYS the reason for SteamVR exclusive stuttering w/ a Quest! If not, all you needed to do to fix this issue was toggle the "Console Visibility" setting in the OculusDebugTool... A quick Google search would have told you that in seconds. (It was either that, or caused by an audio bug from a Windows active audio device mismatch, but it was much more likely to be the former if it wasn't just bc you had SteamVR's resolution set too high like a total flipping dingus lol.)
@@Cooe. Well that post was a year ago... But no, I'm well aware of the resolution settings on the Oculus app and the Steam VR UI. I'm also familiar with the settings in the nVidia control panel and the stuff in the Oculus debug tool that don't show up in the standard UI. I've been working as a software engineer for the last 24 years and have been developing code and building hardware since I got my first 8bit computer in the early 80s when I was in grade school, also was a day-one adopter of consumer VR when they launched the CV1, so I'm not a dingus that doesn't know how to use google or unfamiliar with how VR works. The issue way back when I wrote that original post was due to a bug that got introduced over years of Oculus software and driver revisions bouncing from one headset to another and then again - a fresh windows install and starting over with Oculus and Steam fixed the issue. That still wasn't the last time an update borked my system by changing how Oculus dealt with how some of the finely tuned settings from the Oculus Tray Tool and I had to move over to the first party debug tool - although it's gotten much more functional over the last year anyway. I've also squeezed a little bit more bandwidth over link by moving to a dedicated USB3.2 card on it's own PCIe lane instead of sharing everything with the onboard USB controller.
I'm definitely enjoying the G2 over my Index. I don't mind giving up the fov for the clarity and the refresh rate makes virtually no diffenece to me between the two headsets.
@@osvaldaspaslauskas5040 The tracking is great, it's just as good as my Rift S. To be fair it's not as good as my Index so I've paired my knuckles with the G2.
@@AdamBrackney thanks, Yeh didn’t expect it to be good as index as it has basestations at least it’s good as the Rift S. If I do plan on buying it then it’ll be the headset bu itself and then the index controllers.
I want to switch from a rift s to a reverb g2 but the controllers seem like an issue for me. Don't care about touch sensors, but if the g2 is going to have noticeably worse tracking than the rift s (which isn't all that great anyway) I would want to use index controllers which would make the setup too expensive for me. Also, as far as I can tell watchman receivers which you need to connect with index controllers aren't available anywhere. Steam controller dongles are discontinued and unavailable, and I can't find vive tracker dongles anywhere but tundra labs who don't have any anymore. The connection hardware is currently the weakest link for using index controllers for anything but an index, and that link may have broken.
are you out of your mind? although as a package, the rift s is pretty shocking due to bugs and issues that can render the headset unusable, the tracking on the rift s is pretty amazing considering it uses inside-out tracking
By far my biggest worry about this thing has been the fact that I see no tracking cameras anywhere above eye level, which I'm surprised it took this long for me to find someone who expressed this. When you raise your controllers above your head, they should be able to track at least to an extent. That's a damn near deal breaker if you don't have that as far as I'm concerned.
i have g2 and day one hated it smh and was going to return it asap day 2 i love it completely my issue was more for games like Arizona sunshine and blades and sorcery not able to turn and didn't have enough time to research but i found the fix and testing it for 2 hrs and love it in onward i can see things i never saw before and see waaaayyyyyyyyy further like almost unfair type of clarity lolll. My quest 2 i still love and the psvr but the g2 truly is the clarity king and the controllers aren't as bad as most youtubers mention they are comparable to quest 2 tracking, quest slightly a lil better if they added 2 more cameras on the top it would be perfect. I slapped on my old Mamut grips from my old cv1 and they work fine on g2.
Almost got a face reveal out of you, Thrill! FaceBook would be pleased, haha. But thanks for offering another first impressions, between you and MRTV, it does seem like it's a solid headset at the very least.
honestly, it kind of messes me up in my games i play, thinking i cant point and click, but cant since laying my finger on the button (not pressing) will put that finger down. i'm totally fine with that not being there, but the actual tracking i hope improves with software updates. Or possibly other controller options? Like an option to purchase upgraded controllers etc.
I got the G2, honestly, I forgot about it faster than I noticed, if you're coming from something like oculus controllers, you really come to realize how little the capacitive sensors do, they only really notice if your finger is on the trigger and bend it slightly, or notice if your thumb is curled or not. It's one of those things you forget because they didn't do much to behind with. But... For someone who has used index controllers, I'd imagine it'd be quite a bit deal not to be able to do much more than point, make a fist, thumbs up, etc
@@AzeShorts At a MINIMUM countless games have you pointing at stuff & pressing buttons with your index finger... Not to mention the GARGANTUAN immersion hole it leaves for any even remotely social VR experience! I'm 100% with Thrill on this one. Having at least basic capacitive finger tracking to the level of Touch is basically an industry standard REQUIREMENT for a quality modern VR controller. Going above & beyond with Knuckles level capacitive tracking is even better, but the leap from no finger tracking whatsoever to Touch is IMO WAY bigger than from Touch to Knuckles. Being able to perform at minimum basic hand gestures in VR is a critical function for interacting with the world in a way that actually feels real. Pushing any kind of button in VR with your ACTUAL FINGER is a million times more immersive than having to tap it with some kind of wand/stick or just pressing a controller button.
@@Red8675309666 This post doesn't make any sense... Speak understandable English please. Vibration on controllers is loud and feels cheap not good at all. Bit of pressure point on my temple's not to bad but Rift S much more comfort. The cable is thick and very grippy so will pull on you. When you first start up a lot of ghosting effects until it heats up, and screen door until it warms up. 10 mins or so then gone. If you want to surf the web you can not scroll with the controllers. You will have to use a mouse as well. Wanna type in search bar, your gonna need to lift up headset and use physical keyboard. Tried playing Pavlov you can not use 2 hands on weapons. Right hand will grip but left hand does not grip the weapon. So I'm guessing custom mapping is needed. Have heard this is the case on many other games. Cant hit anything with only 1 hand on a machinegun. God rays are very noticeable on the G2 V2, my Rift S never really noticed them. I purchased on sale for 499 but still not worth that. maybe $350. In games the sweet spot is not as bad, you really don't see it much but, on anything else you can only read 2 words and then left and right of those 2 words are blurry and the next ones very blurry. I wanted to love this but I'm going back to Rift S. Controllers hit when reloading weapons. I really believe the Rift S or Quest 2 are much better at software, easy of use, you can just play and even the screens have much bigger sweet spot. I think if you are sim racing its a great choice the sweet spot not as bad. Sim flying your gonna have to turn your head a lot to see the gauges clearly. I'd wait. The only thing it has going for it is sound and the very small sweet spot. Just my experience. Imma keep my rift s until something better comes along.
i had almost the same thoughts as you when i returned mine. controllers were abysmal, heavy and bulky i shiver on the sole thought of them. i also had rift s before and i think that overall it was a better headset than g2. the mixed reality software was also really annoying and resource-heavy. It would be a great 400$ headset, but they set the price waaaaaaaay to high
Thank you for talking about the headset + knuckles controllers. I've been wondering if that was possible, but couldn't find anyone talking about it. I'd love a video showing how to set that up.
The issue is if you add the cost of the headset index controllers and base stations the cost comes to over 1000 bucks just making it better to get the index bundle for better tracking and 2.0 base stations.
I honestly just wish the index was more affordable. This headset looks great but having the quest 2 as of right now, I don't think that the wait to save for a premium headset will be difficult. Anyways, great video!
There's 0 chance that i give up on my wireless quest for something like this... i have two years to find a new wireless headset that works with or similarly to virtual desktop and quest and i'm not sure it's gonna happen...
why is a cable such a big problem? the biggest for me at least is that it can be too short, but otherwise meh. Better then having to charge it all the time, and then the battery gives up.
@@basseman4239 i have multiple play spaces. My main space is 4 meters by 10 meters and not right next to my pc, the others are in other houses. With my quest i can play with 1 really good pc that i want to upgrade and use in all the places over wifi.

I have the HP Reverb G2, I tried using it in a completely bare white room with no glare and the tracking wasn't good. I put some A4 black pieces of paper with 1 cross on it with white tape and now the tracking is now amazing, I further improved it with a smart light and changed the tone of the light for the room. I suggest re-chargeable li-ion batters 2000mah and there is no shaking which is great. In my other room that had things in it and it tracked fine. So it's based on your room. I also extended the cables by 3 metres as my computer is in the other room. Next I'm setting up the IKEA 2m lamp hack and bungy system in the new year.
Yeah honestly as much as I'd like to say Reverb G2 destroys the Quest 2 (with link) in terms of quality overall I actually think it's not bad competition overall pretty disappointed with the controllers and tracking. Feeling pretty good about buying a quest 2 as much as people will hate me for it.
@@alita05 Will they do? With the link you wont need to use the 256GB - so the Reverb is litterally 100% more expensive, with worse tracking but better visuals. I was going for the Reverb but now Im having doubts.
@@joost1183 yeah def don't need that 256GB with link as all storage for link is off the PC and 64GB if you want to try getting some crossbuy games for times when you need to take it portability it still does very well with the amount of storage. Link also with the new update has 90hz and has the capability to increase the resolution by 1.5x. honestly the quest 2 might be the way to go
Congrats on winning the VR influencer of the year award! You deserve it and so much more. Thanks for all the quality coverage and content, and I look forward to catching a stream at some point.
I'm still on the HTC Vive. The originally released Vive. I've swapped out the controllers with Index controllers, carried out a lens mod to reduce god rays, purchased the deluxe strap, and the wireless adapter. With the outside in tracking (for me), still being some of the best tracking out there, this is still my fave VR out there. I just don't see a reason to upgrade yet. Yes the resolution could be better, but all of the things it does well outweigh the resolution. With super sampling, I'm more than used to the limitations. For some reason, I just haven't jelled with any other VR setup the way I have with the Vive. Especially with the tweaks I've made to it. One thing I do know, when a VR setup does arrive the does everything my Vive does now, with a higher resolution, I'm in for a treat.
about the tracking, the way the controllers work the batteries REALLY matter, some batteries make your tracking shaky and terrible, but good batteries do improve that quite a bit
Much Love,
Thrill
Thanks for clarifying. So it's just the tracking overall then. Good to know.
I think it a real issue.

Love my index. Zero problems
@@tyy2387 Great choice! Welcome to the Index club 😁
Yeah don't worry. All headsets have their compromises at this point in VR's early stages. No headset that exists is perfect as they all have tradeoffs. Just go for what is affordable and the best for your use case, which in your case is the Index!

Thrill keep in mind that Studio lights, Reflective windows and other such things could throw off the tracking as it is tracked by the lights. they arent using the Oculus's Infrared tracking as they patented that. so those types of things could mess with the tracking in certain amounts.

@@AzeShorts The only question I have is when in boneworks if you go to reach for a weapon behind you, does the tracking bug out? Or things like that in half life alyx when you're climbing ladders or such. I'm pretty much set on buying this thing, but just am afraid of the tracking. Although I'm sure the tracking can't possibly be worse than my Rift CV1 with two sensors xD
@@KnexRules8365 I actually played boneworks yesterday lol, yeah grabbing items from your back works perfectly, never had any issue with that, climbing is also perfect, you can play half life alyx perfectly on this thing, for some more on climbing, I play population: one daily on this thing without issues, I wipe squads and win without issues, look up population one if you want to see constant climbing lmao
Bottom line with this headset is that it'll work for all the games basically, there are just a few situations in some games where, if you look for it, you can see the tracking drift and click back into place if you hold your gun down by your side for example, it doesn't change gameplay but it's there, sorta, you forget about it and play the game
This should get a lighthouse tracking variant or addon option.
@MrBleach401 Yes, but it's a pain in the ass to configure with just another software on top and you have to calibrate it manually and repeatedly. An additional officialy supported tracker on the headset would solve that.
That was kind of go against the entire point of this thing and the windows mixed reality part of it.
Idk why they don't just add a single camera facing the floor.
It's funny how the quest has 4 cameras and can still see your controllers there
Would be best if they had the cameras placed the same way Oculus did with the Quest, no need for another camera, it's all in the placement.
7:03 what is that on the valve index controller? I want it
you mean the grip? that's like the main selling point

Nice video.
Really interested in combining the reverb with the knuckles.
Also looking forward on using the reverb in other rooms without base stations.
Seriously, I love the no base station tracking!
but how hard it is to put one camera down 1 up and 1 wide angle back?
Suriprising they did not add 1 camera up like Oculus did with Rift S. But I do not think it is a bigger problem. The tracking works well.
I think it would be best if they placed the 4 cameras the same way Oculus did with the Quest. But some people say the tracking is good.
@@BlueOvals24 I never noticed tracking errors while I was playing games unless I tried to break it.

9:37 wow the timing of beat saber and the music is soo perfect
Cant Waitt!!! I pre ordered the G2 Sept 15th..
Thats scary they hand checked yours and gave you a faulty controller
Right!? Definitely not a company I want to give $600 to.

You might have too dark room and your floor is too plain, no carpet with patterns. This is inside-out tracking and it needs to track against something. Install 1200 lumen ambient light there on a ceiling, do not flood G2 with strong directional light. Ambient light. Put a carpet there with some pattern on it.
Quick tip: After plugging-in the G2 via USB show your central point to WMR and later select "seated play" in WMR and stand in your main central pivot point you wil play your games. Click Center in WMR app (or SteamVR menu button). It is very important to do this, to set exactly the central spot you will play your games.

Ill never have one
Dont worry, ill buy you a girlfriend.
I'll wait for the deca gear headset. Good video man.
(Aka NOT the Oculus app's Link resolution but the resolution set inside SteamVR!)
Because that's basically ALWAYS the reason for SteamVR exclusive stuttering w/ a Quest!
Great video, would love a video on how to set it up with base stations, vive trackers, and knuckles!
It's an HP product so it's gonna last for a couple of months before breaking.
@Robert Sears so you wouldn't know if anything broke :p
I'm joking. HP is one of the better brands out there imo.
I'm definitely enjoying the G2 over my Index. I don't mind giving up the fov for the clarity and the refresh rate makes virtually no diffenece to me between the two headsets.
How’s the tracking?
Out of my mind about what? I like the rift s but I am looking for an upgrade. Also to get away from oculus and Facebook forever.
Already got a face reveal.
The lack of capactive touch seems like a real minor issue to me, I can't think of a single time I've used it.
honestly, it kind of messes me up in my games i play, thinking i cant point and click, but cant since laying my finger on the button (not pressing) will put that finger down. i'm totally fine with that not being there, but the actual tracking i hope improves with software updates.
Pointing & pressing in-game buttons with your index finger using the capacitive finger tracking makes TONS of totally intuitive sense on either Touch or Knuckles! Bought one, returned 2 days later. Sweet spot the size of a half dollar, all text outside that are very blurry. Rift S more consistent in clarity across the screen.
Especially with the tweaks I've made to it.

about the tracking, the way the controllers work the batteries REALLY matter, some batteries make your tracking shaky and terrible, but good batteries do improve that quite a bit
