I have a question I live in Australia so valve doesn't sell the index or controllers I have the vive wands and I want to get valve index controllers if I was to get the index controllers imported from another country would I run into faults with the index controllers within a year of use. Also would you recommend the controllers in my case
Yo, look into getting a split loom thread wire cover, it's like $10 and takes the brunt of the ware and tear off the cable, I've had my index for 8 months and besides a little dust my cable is still in pristine condition
i like how he thinks they pay to fix everyone else index and they are hemorrhaging money due to it . when the reality is they know who he is and makes sure they cover it and everyone else can fuck off or pay
Yeah, mine has two. I also reinforced both with cable ties, don't use a pully system, and have a clip on the cable that attaches to my belt so there's never any opportunity for strain on the headset. As long as you take care of your headset, there shouldn't most of these issues.
I got that second one at the back of the headset to break of for no real reason. I don't use a pully system, using a cable tie there now to hold it in place for comfort reasons, did not think this was a new addition as you otherwise get the cable to lay on your shoulder instead of running down your back (which the prior is rather annoying) About 3 months, 600-800h I guess, based on my nearly 2k hours in steam vr, and having broken the 1k still with the WMR.
Quick Reminder: despite the problems remember that he spends A LOT more time on the index than most people probably will for a long time. So while some things like the first cable failure and some of the early issues are a good point to look at, not all the problems will likely happen unless you're putting in hours and hours almost every day every week and putting stress on these objects more than the normal Index user.
I think it's a lot less the actual time he spends, it's the way he uses all the stuff. He's incredibly a violent with his headset. I'm not saying that using it like that should have these issues though, besides doing handstands which he has broken more than one index with.
Yeah, that is a good point. But personally, I'll be a very happy gamer once the Steam VR headset and it's equipment gets as durable as the Quest 2 and it's equipment. And durable enough that you could use it for as many hours of the day as a "hardcore gamer" would on their computer.
@@her0880 Couple months. Nowhere near as used as 1k hours but still used a lot. I've only ever had issues with tracking and that was my own fault for not having the tracking stations at the right spot(I noticed after around 50 hours of play, fixed that and now it works pretty well).
Boy is the VR community lucky to have a dude like thrill making content. The comparison to a car startup while also clarifying that it's not a confirmed 1 to 1 comparison, sums up how insightful the homie is while style having integrity. Props to the homie.
Here's an idea for preserving the cable on the Index… There's a type of plastic tubing used for cable management of computer desks. This tubing has a repeating rib structure, similar to an accordion, that allows it to be more flexible. The tubing is also slit open on one side along its entire length, which allows you to insert cables from the side, rather than feeding them into the tube to be pulled all along the length. I think that putting your headset cable(s) inside this kind of tubing, and anchoring the tubing to the headset (and the pulley system if you have one) instead of the cable itself, would take a lot of stress off the cable. Ideally though, I think it would be be good if the cable itself had a spring shape for about a third of a meter, or one foot, right at the end where it plugs into the headset. The same kind of spring shape seen on the cords for corded telephones, and small radio transmitters to connect the microphone to the rest of the equipment. These spring shapes are better suited to being moved around a lot, and even twisted. Because they can be twisted with much less stress, I think they would be a great choice for relieving mechanical stress right where it's needed most: close to the plug, where it must match the rotation and position of the headset cable socket exactly. For the remaining length of the cable, it can be the normal, straight shape, which should be anchored by a clip if the cable is deemed strong enough on its own, or encased in plastic tubing if it's not strong enough on its own, with the tubing being anchored to the headset instead of the cable. I think this could be done without having to replace the entire current stock of cables, by using a simple, short cable extension on the end of the current cables, which has the desired spring shape. If someone wants to let Valve know about this, be my guest! I'd rather stop everyone suffering than horde the idea to myself in the vain hope of wringing money out of it somehow. They can have the idea for free. Maybe it will encourage them to keep improving their hardware when they don't have to constantly send out replacements.
I hope more thought will be put headsets’ durability in the future It must be really disappointing when the headset breaks, especially if you can’t get the part replaced
No. I refuse to have that high pitch buzzing in my ear 24/7 from the base stations being on when I'm not using them Like if I can imagine what tinnitus is like; this is it Edit: if he's not talking about putting them in sleep mode then I'm dumb. In sleep mode I don't hear them at all. But leaving them fully active 24/7 like they were out of the box is absolutely not happening
@@WhyIsEverythingTaken You and me both.. It especially has gotten worse last month or so, and I can't call for an appointment even if I could afford to..
Yeah, most people I've met have maybe went through one controller from smacking it hard against the wall or a new wire. I think he has himself to blame for the insane amount of failures lol.
I've spent 3-6 hours in vr a week since November 2019 and my index is still going strong! Even if it had issues I still don't see headsets with refresh rates and fov on par with the index. Plus the big brother facebook quest ecosystem is creepy.
Personally, I have had my valve index for a year, used it for 4057 hours of VR, and only ever had to replace my headset cable once, and my left controller once
Dude I got Index like 2 days ago, you're scaring me man.. I'm not even violent with my headset and I take it slow.. It's good that I saw this video first hand, tells me what to not put stress on too much
Definitely gonna be interesting to see what you have you to show us! This is certainly a "true" representation of the durability, more than any torture test can ever be. Thanks for all the great content!
My wall speaks in pain of my knuckle controllers, im my first 4 wekks of vr i punched my wall like 7 times. controllers still fine and now its nearly a year
480hours behind with my Valve Index and no breakage of cable here or any other problems. (Knocks on wood). I do use a pulley system but I am rather cautious with my equipment. However I did fling my right controller once across the room during a very intense Beat Saber session but it didn't break. Guess I dropped it "the right way". ;P I definitely power down my base stations. The high pitch noise (not very loud, but noticeable) they make is unbearable when you go to sleep and the house is quiet.
I've only had to RMA one controller, and the people at valve were cool. I just contacted support, they asked what was wrong, and asked me to verify in the controller test thing that the left thumbstick would not work, and they gave me a shipping label to send the old one out, and at the same time they sent a new one. It only took about a few days, and I was back to playing games. Like thrill said it sucks that these problems exist, but valve does stand by their products by giving free RMAs as long as you're still in warranty.
My experience was rather nice. I just submitted a help ticket for my issue, they ask for some form of verification, they give me shipping instructions, then all the sudden I have a new HMD
I'm on my 3rd RMA that is being done three months out of warranty. I absolutely cannot complain. My first RMA was for a left Thumbstick...and a year later I have had no problems whatsoever with the new controller or my original right controller. My HMD issues have been relatively minor but still not something I'm happy to endure for the cost of the headset. Valve agrees I shouldn't have to, and they have taken care of me without any hassles whatsoever.
The sequel I wasn't expecting, but I'm glad happened. Also, finally got my quest an holy moly it's fun. I have always been an enthusiast in vr and now I'm spreading the fun with family and friends.
Oh absolutely. Biggest thing with the Quest 2 is it's second gen quest hardware and it's god knows how many gen oculus hardware. Oculus has had A LOT of experience making headsets so in general they have a good idea of how to make a durable headset because of experience. Meanwhile the Index is Valve's first foray into VR and uhh.... It shows. It's great hardware but it ABSOLUTELY suffers from the "first generation hardware curse" and all the jank that entails
Tip for Index users: Consider magnetic USB-C cables to charge the knuckles. Puts minimal stress on the connector that will snap into place. I have had the port break previously and was unable to recharge them.
Pro Tip: Use the touchpad. I've had my index controllers since December 2019 and have no issues with them since the transition to Touchpad movement. I also do not use pully system and just use Turn Signal for cable management. Been running my Pimax 8kx for 6 months with no issues thus far. Lastly, I have carpeting in my VR play space, helps for comfort since I play barefooted and prevents fatal controller drops.
I have no clue what he does to his headset, I have nearly 800 hours in the index and the only issue that I've had was completely my fault, being a ripped out thumb stick that i caused which valve replaced for free
@@KiegKillsReality Either your base stations are somehow quieter or your high frequency hearing is diminished. I've heard people have quiet base stations but all three of mine are "whiny"
@@Krankenstein105 I’m 17 so my hearing isn’t gone yet lmao. I mean maybe the difference between me and other people is that I hear the whine but I just don’t care. Like I can deal with it, you know? Idk dude. Or maybe my base stations came faulty or something. Who knows.
And this is why I use the included wrist straps even though the Index controllers strap onto your hand directly. I never want these to drop. Even if the plastic holding the triggers in wasn't as fragile as they are, the nature of capacitive sensors for the finger tracking means that aspect of the controller was always bound to be fragile.
I've been using my Rift S for a very long time (around its release) and it's been surprisingly good. I really haven't had any issues with mine, though I also don't use it daily. EDIT: yeah, i can confirm that the controllers oculus makes are very sturdy compared to some of the other controllers i've seen and used
One thing Valve did do to stop hemorrhaging RMA money is draw a hard line with the warranty at 1 year. It sounded like they gave you replacements more than a year out unless I misunderstood the times you were saying. I can confirm basically everything in this video. The cover on one of my speakers also popped off. Mostly cosmetic, but it was providing SOME structure and now the speaker tilts in a little more and sometimes brushes my ear. One instance of audio cutout that I had forgotten until watching this, solved by re-screwing it and never happened again. Left thumbstick (used for movement in most games, I clicked it a LOT in Pavlov) lasted about 2 years for me before it got loose and drifted. I looked up a repair video here on youtube and soldered on a new potentiometer successfully, but broke the grip sensor in the process (dropped the stupid strap adjustment spring down INTO the controller, having to break it all the way open, broke the ribbon cable connector on the mainboard). I also had the cable clip break, after I removed the plastic loop holding the cable that resulted in that nasty fraying/pinching. Those two combined killed the cable, and I scratched the lenses while trying to follow valve's troubleshooting, which is the one warranty replacement I got at, 9 months or so? When I contacted them again for scratches on the lens again, the first thing they asked for was serial number to verify warranty, and immediately said there was nothing they could do, including paid repairs, when it was > 1 year. Hell I can't even buy a single controller or just the half of the cord that I actually need, has to be the whole set for $270 or $120 respectively. I swear I'm not a shill or affiliated in any way, but I HIGHLY recommend Vr-wire for pulley system. It allows much more freedom of movement (actual pulleys on a track) and puts less stress on the cable, although it is still more than not using pulleys at all. Much less tug than the series of fixed retractors also. And they also have a nice silicone cable guide to serve the purpose of the zip tie in the video, but soft and won't fray the cable at all. Also using that VRcover (or whatever brand) cloth backstrap cover, and routing the cable through that first small run now instead of using that plastic clip that damages the cord.
Tips is to put on the wrist straps and then put on the headset (avoid drops). The motor in the base stations are sensitive to heat, so I let my four 2.0 base stations power down (green light to blue light). Wait some seconds and then cut the power so they can cool down. But I only had them running for 9 months, will report back when more time has passed. I also wipe the controllers and headset after each use with a dry and smooth towel to remove sweat and oil that comes from your hands. As oil cause damage to plastic over time.
This man literally break dances in VR just FYI Ive hit my wall and the HMD numerous times playing Thrill of the fight and I have cracked 1 controller after a genuine countless number of times. The controller actually retained full functionality but I RMAed it anyway. Consider as well I do real boxing so Im providing a full force punch and yet still not doing this kind of damage to my index. Ive truly never seen anyone break an index more than this guy
Huh hearing this makes me feel lucky. I've had mine since early december 2019 and it still works fine. The only problems I have with it are the cord constantly turning into a noose and the trigger on my right hand remote started making a squeaking sound about a month into owning it but it still works perfectly.
ive had my index for only a little bit shy of 2 months and while it still works just as good now as it has on day one, watching these videos stress me out LMAO i wanna keep this thing working for as long as possible
Reminds me of the CV1 days lol, I went through 3 HMDS, all covered by Oculus. But this kit is far more expensive. Kinda glad I’ve yet to get an Index. For now, I’ll continue playing my PC VR games wirelessly with my Quest. 🤗
I've came across my very first Valve Index issue and it's my left thumb stick drifting backwards if you press it to the rear at all it will make you walk in reverse, my solution was to just press forward very quickly after going backwards, I'm hoping it doesn't get much worse. I still love and enjoy the headset and bay stations with no issues there. Thanks for sharing and as always keep building👍
6:28 the FAQ says: "SteamVR's Base Station Power Management feature is turned OFF by default. Turning this feature ON ensures that your Base Stations power off when not in use to reduce power usage and extend their lifespan."
thanks for saving me from buying a new vr setup. ive now decided to simply buy the knuckles, keep my vive and all included hardware as a backup, put my gearVR lenses into my vive, and wait for an index revision or perhaps an HTC competitor before buying anything else. thoroughly earned sub. ill be tuning in for more content.
With effort. Going through an RMA process takes time to process and effort for your part to send and receive stuff. It can get annoying and for those living outside of the US and supported countries, it would actually cost you money to go through the RMA especially now with shipping rates going through the roof because of obvious reasons.
The index seems so fragile compared to everything else, I’ve seen my friend throw his quest 1 into the wall 2 separate times when he gets mad, and it’s fine. I’m not saying you should throw your headset and that abuse isn’t bad, but still
ive dropped my index controllers knocked over my base stations and droppes my headset all on accident no orange lights not scratches tracking still works fine and everything results may vary tho
@@BsicalyLucifer That’s great to hear, I don’t have an index it’s just from what I’ve heard from other people, but I guess I’ve been underestimating how durable it is
I've hit my knuckles against my wall a few times because I got a bit too immersed and they still work perfectly fine. Thrill just goes a bit too hard on his equipment
As an engineer, the issue with starting and stopping the base stations constantly causing extra wear actually does make perfect sense. People who manage servers will tell you the same thing about hard drives. They're way more likely to fail if you start and stop them than if you just let them run 24/7. This is true for nearly any time of engine or motor. There's a lot more force required to start and stop them than to just let them run. Depending on the type of engine or motor, starting and stopping them can also cause thermal expansion/contraction cycles that you won't have if you just let them run at the same speed all day long. As far as the pulley system is concerned... I use a pulley system, too, but I have mine set up where it puts relatively little force on the cable. Basically just enough to hold it up. While the spring tension in the pulleys themselves are not adjustable, I just have multiple pulleys daisy-chained off of each other. Granted, mine is coming from a higher height than most. The main pulley is mounted about 9 feet up off the floor (high ceiling room,) but I have 3 pulleys daisy chained on it. While it's strong enough to keep the cable up in the air, it doesn't put much tension on the cable. The next pulley it's connected to has 2 pulleys daisy-chained. In addition to keeping the stresses on the cable down, this setup also greatly expands the area around which I can freely move for room-scale VR.
Clean it on the reg with a slightly damp microfiber cloth and it will stay shiny :) I also recommend cleaning the lenses before every play session (circular, from the inside out slowly) if you keep them smushed up against your eyes. Sweat is the enemy of the glue moisture barrier seal under the lens rubber gaskets, be sure to air your headset out if you notice a sweat coming on. Removing the clear plastic faceplate when you jack in helps it stay cooler also.
@@AM1N4L agreed. I've been trying to tell people this and I wish thrill was more careful or at least made it known that his issues are due to gross mistreatment, and not the typical user who may treat it like they couldn't afford another. That glue doesn't just come out from being warm, it comes out from molesting the rubber gasket while cleaning the lenses, pushing your eyebrows against it while playing, and sweating in the headset. Did you see the giant sweat/water damage ring around thrills lenses? It's ridiculous.
I am a moderate user and yes, you need to treat the controllers with care. The triggers are fragile and its human nature to mash down on them during tense moments. Unfortunately there are small plastic parts holding the whole thing together.
i have to admit I've been a lucky one. I've only had to replace one controller from stick drift and i had the stars problem once but rebooted my computer and it was fixed. Hearing your multiple horror stories reminds me that, even if i love this thing, I shouldn't fully praise it like i want to, it has it's cons.

Thanks, Thrill, this is a great video! I've been in VR since the days of the DK1 in 2014. My Rift CV1 (5 years old) still works great today (used for thousands of hours), and so far I never had any problems with my Rift S (one and a half years old). WIth the Index I had one failing controller three months in (replaced by Valve within a week). The Index headset still works, but I am starting to wonder when it will show the first symptoms... Same as you, I love the Index though and am still recommending it.

Interesting video, I have two locations with Valve Indexes (4 per location) and haven't had the issues you've listed, except a cable that just just went bad and replacing was a nightmare waiting for Valve to replace. Knocking on wood!!
Found this video and the 1000hour one after my index just black screens and won't display. Nothing even broke on it (by which I mean nothing I can see), no visible damage to the cable or any of the clips. I wasn't even doing anything crazy with it when it broke. I was just sitting on my bed, looking at the VRChat world menu and it just black-screened. Like most people I had an older headset (original HTC vive) which still works (I gave it away to a friend, now regretting it) and just recent bought the index 6months ago. I hope they're as generous as everyone has said they are.
Index user here! I've owned mine for about three months and I'd say that I have around 200 hours on it. Thus far I've had to RMA a controller for the thumbstick just... popping out one day. I tried to put it back in, but the capacitive cable that enabled capacitive touch snapped. I have no idea how it happened! But Valve replaced it within two weeks, no questions asked. Aside from that, I only get a minor sound issue with the right speaker, but I'm going to try the maintenance suggested in the vid and see if it fixes it. In terms of usage, I'd call myself a moderate user. I play a bit of Beat Saber and Phasmophobia, and do a lot of full body motion in VRChat plus dancing. But I've only recently gotten a pully system, so we'll see how that goes in a couple months.
I have a Reverb G2, which I'm sure you're aware doesn't have the best cable clip, so that cable management tip will really come in handy for me. Especially since I just recently installed my super high-tech pulley system consisting of one (1) tiny metal hook screwed into the ceiling that I haphazardly drape the cable over.
Yes they make noise. Some people say it's annoying, some say they don't notice it. There was a thread that meantioned you can slightly change their operating frequency in Steam which can make the noise less annoying. Power draw should be around 5W each, at least that's what I found on the 1.0 lighthouses.
I will not leave the base stations on and here is why: First, I have the 1.0 ones and they are emitting a very subtle beeping sound constantly. If my room is totally quiet it really bothers me because i then here it. Second, my remote control doesn't work when the base stations are on because it is infra red, too. Thanks for the cable tip, though. I use the reverb g2 with index controllers and have the same pulley system. I just fixed my cable similar to yours. :D As always, great video!!! Normally I'm more of a lurker than a comment writer, but keep up. I love the content you create.
this dude house is hell for vr headsets. not good review video for normal use. this is extreme use. do not use this video as advice or to affect you purchase choices (at least on the bits that he broke the thing doing his dumb stunts).
As another multiple-thousand hour index user, I've actually had a very smooth experience. I've had to replace BOTH controllers due to drift and I do a lot of jumping in VRChat with the thumbsticks so that was probably the culprit. A rebind helped great. The glue melted in my headset but was easy as heck to get pull out. I put my base stations into "sleep mode" instead of powering them down and have never had an issue. You get the same noise reduction without potentially killing them.
As the family tech person I am in charge of upkeep of our index and modding beat saber blah blah. After only having the index since late august with light usage (1-4 hours 5 days a week, No pulley system, nothing very active beyond beat saber) I have had to RMA the headset, a controller, and two base stations. The first headset repeatedly disconnected from any computer it was plugged into at seemingly random intervals. The right knuckle controller thumb-stick flicked by my pocket in use and ripped straight out taking a few traces with it surprisingly, while this was somewhat my fault its still impressive how easily and how violently it failed. Took four weeks for a replacement to come in non-advance. Straight through the holiday season. The two base stations are both just random failures. Both base stations are stably mounted but are shut off via Bluetooth. The first happened just a week or so into ownership and was replaced within a few days, would not track or spin up. The second base station one day started blinking red even though it was working perfectly fine and a rather annoying constant error window showed at every play session. I figured it was a basic software issue or something that could be debugged as the station still worked fine. Steam support simply recommended to check for updates and sent me a new one. I feel you defiantly get your moneys-worth in the warranty, and that's not a positive. Still a great experience when its not out for repairs or return.
the sequel too "What Happened to my Valve Index After 1000" not only took the world by surprise but many critics agree that 2000h is not only an improvement but it was far more ambitious compared to the original 1000h . though some fan of the sequel may not been so happy to see +1000$ headset get degraded over time and expected it to live longer . many fans of the original agreed that with careful use it could even live longer and appreciate the tips that been provided to help with it .

I don't use a pully system, using a cable tie there now to hold it in place for comfort reasons, did not think this was a new addition as you otherwise get the cable to lay on your shoulder instead of running down your back (which the prior is rather annoying)
About 3 months, 600-800h I guess, based on my nearly 2k hours in steam vr, and having broken the 1k still with the WMR.

So, have you gotten it yet?
@@maxiball probs not
Quick Reminder: despite the problems remember that he spends A LOT more time on the index than most people probably will for a long time.
@@benkahn5063 He does it all, so we don't have to!!!
Yeah, that is a good point. But personally, I'll be a very happy gamer once the Steam VR headset and it's equipment gets as durable as the Quest 2 and it's equipment. And durable enough that you could use it for as many hours of the day as a "hardcore gamer" would on their computer.

Here's an idea for preserving the cable on the Index…
There's a type of plastic tubing used for cable management of computer desks.
I hope more thought will be put headsets’ durability in the future

I just contacted support, they asked what was wrong, and asked me to verify in the controller test thing that the left thumbstick would not work, and they gave me a shipping label to send the old one out, and at the same time they sent a new one. It only took about a few days, and I was back to playing games. Like thrill said it sucks that these problems exist, but valve does stand by their products by giving free RMAs as long as you're still in warranty.

The Quest 2 has it's issues, but you gotta admit; *that thing durable*

I just ordered my valve index 2 days before you made this video.
the BEST SERIES ON RUclips is back
One thing Valve did do to stop hemorrhaging RMA money is draw a hard line with the warranty at 1 year.
Update me!

Your Index has a rad post apocalyptic look. Tape, springs, glue... One day we will have a hard-core user headset. Maybe it will be made of Kevlar.
Why do I keep doing this getting here really early
You clicked the bell.
I just got my valve index, and it’s beautifullllllll. I’ll be sad the day it stops smelling like a new car...:(
Clean it on the reg with a slightly damp microfiber cloth and it will stay shiny :)
I also recommend cleaning the lenses before every play session (circular, from the inside out slowly) if you keep them smushed up against your eyes.

Arrows whizzing by like streaks of light
I tried all that I could to stay and fight
As the undead roamed the street
Families broken at my feet
Life itself suspended by a thread
Oh, why is it that I wasn't dead
I gaze off into the boundless skyline
Noteblock choirs playing in the sunshine
Turn 'round pick up my sword and wield
The blade that once forced evil mobs to yield
If this battle should leave me slain
I know Herobrine will call my name
Better to take a stand
That was when I ruled the land
I gaze off into the boundless skyline
Noteblock choirs playing in the sunshine
Turn 'round pick up my sword and wield
The blade that once forced evil mobs to yield
If this battle should leave me slain
I know Herobrine will call my name
Better to take a stand
That was when I ruled the land
Cant wait for: “what happened to my valve index after 100,001 hours
I dropped my quest controllers in the water and it worked -_-
And I threw my quest of my roof and it was still fine, damn the stuff it’s made of
I went swimming and diving with my headset on, it was a great experience and it works perfectly
@@jatoxo I went into the void of space with my headset on and it worked great. Only complaint is that it was really cold and hard to breathe.
9:31 Y'all heard that? When Pimax releases their controllers Thrillseeker is switching.
He doesnt like pimax bc of pimax software
@@AtlanticPOG He must not have seen it recently. Its become quite spectacular. ruclips.net/video/C69jXj6czno/видео.html

Reminds me of one episode of Only Fools & Horses. When Trigger says he's been using the same broom to clean the streets for years. He only replaced X amount of handles and brushes.
I wish o could afford an index but the quest 2 is my maximum limit
i can relate
No one cares

Yep same and I hate that I have to admit
Interesting video, I have two locations with Valve Indexes (4 per location) and haven't had the issues you've listed, except a cable that just just went bad and replacing was a nightmare waiting for Valve to replace. Knocking on wood!!
Hey thrill! Any news on the Deca Gear team? I remember them saying you would receive a post production headset for review
I literally just searched up valve index videos and did not expect see a new upload from you about it and to be this early! :D
I know it's a bit cliché to mention but I don't think I've ever gotten to start watching a video only 4 minutes after it was released
Nice! I think the earliest I've gotten is 30 seconds. It was crazy tho bc I don't use post notifications at all for anyone
Yeah watching videos early either means that you are lucky or you have no life
Oh lord, i have 2805 hours on mine, only broken a controller strap. Glad to know you can get repairs
The valve index is like a gold pickaxe in Minecraft it is the best but breaks in 4 seconds
"Just game the RMA system" classy. And he wonders why this stuff is so expensive to begin with.
It's expensive because it comes with the RMA system. Not using it would be idiotic.
You don't understand what 'gaming' something means.
Aren't you the guy who was doing handstands wearing a VR headset?
I have a Reverb G2, which I'm sure you're aware doesn't have the best cable clip, so that cable management tip will really come in handy for me. Especially since I just recently installed my super high-tech pulley system consisting of one (1) tiny metal hook screwed into the ceiling that I haphazardly drape the cable over.
Do the base stations make noise when running (isn't there something spinning inside)? How much power do they consume?
Yes they make noise. Some people say it's annoying, some say they don't notice it. There was a thread that meantioned you can slightly change their operating frequency in Steam which can make the noise less annoying. Power draw should be around 5W each, at least that's what I found on the 1.0 lighthouses.
I never ever hear mine and i have 4 of them.
The 1.0 yes the 2.0s not so much.
I will not leave the base stations on and here is why:
First, I have the 1.0 ones and they are emitting a very subtle beeping sound constantly.
As always, great video!!! Normally I'm more of a lurker than a comment writer, but keep up. I love the content you create.

When he said ThrillSeeker in the outtro song I don't know why I just got so hype
TL;DW : Good headset, but fragile as fuck
Hi, bmw owner here... I wanted to say you are absolutely correct. Carry on!
this dude house is hell for vr headsets. not good review video for normal use. this is extreme use. do not use this video as advice or to affect you purchase choices (at least on the bits that he broke the thing doing his dumb stunts).
My just broke from regular use. I’ve had to replace a base station and 3 controllers
So in simple terms...it's like a Mercedes
Really nice but u don't want too own one out of warranty or you'll go bankrupt in repair costs
I feel like my index will last forever now
As the family tech person I am in charge of upkeep of our index and modding beat saber blah blah.
