Man, seeing this amazing ship makes me want a UCS-style Black Pearl from Pirates of the Caribbean so bad! The original set was already beautiful but, by the elder gods, I can’t even imagine how beautiful a $200-$300 ship would be. I can dream, I can only dream.
I'm surprised we haven't seen some random 18+ ship at this point from any theme honestly lol (at least not since Imperial Flagship) - but that would be so incredible! Imagine all the sails....
Since I've only ever built and played with Lego exclusively while in my bathtub (a secret I kept well hidden until today), I suppose I have little choice but to fork over the $200 for the 2005 model.
This whole wave is so confusing. Very solid designs but the fact that they did not parted the sets (like this should have been 2 sets but ship should have been even better) its such "new" lego way. Same with Troll set being pushed in biggest set while people would buy more sets if troll was in 40dollar set. Im really dissapointed of lack of Playfeatures and space.
I definitely get what you mean. I really am not a fan of the Great Hall especially having a lot of unnecessary extra sets in it - really drives up the price.
@2:48 My guess is the 2019 Carriage expanding feature was aimed to suggest an expandable charm applied to it much like the tent in the Quidditch World Cup.
As a kid I pored over the 'building the magical world' book (with the yule ball minifg), and the older sets just had something truly magical about them. This channel sums it up pretty well, but the vibrant colours, metalic plastics, secrets galore, and genuinely mystical feeling that each set had was conveyed even in the book (I'm too young to have bought any of the early 2000s sets). Seeing those sets in these videos always gives me a nostalgic feeling, because in my mind as a kid, those sets really were so mysterious and cool. I wanted all of them so badly.
Rebuilding them for this channel too has consistently brought me great joy. The new sets obviously have their appeal, but the classics will forever have my heart.
I bought a mostly complete 2005 Durmstrang from a friend when I was a kid, but it was missing one of the black hull pieces so I had to make do with just the back half of the ship during play
8:36 I love shield on the right with the dolphins (?) on it, makes me think of those orca pods in the Mediterranean that kept sinking yachts. Wild that it's a sticker though, especially for a shield.
Prints would have been fantastic here, but yeah, still love the designs. I could never pick out these details in the movie, but I assume they're accurate to the source material!
The new Durmstrang ship makes a fantastic baseline for Pirate MOCs to convert into Carracks/Caravel type ships which were small narrow predecessors to the galleon with extremely high fore and aft sections like we see here. I might be picking up a few over the next year or so just for that… I can already tell this one’s going to be a real expensive one secondhand after it retires.
I’m not a HP fan at all and I got this the first chance I could lol. Gonna use it just like you said, as a Merchant Carrack that goes to and fro from my Eldorado Fortress and wherever else it needs to go.
This is the kind of set no one expected but gave everyone a 😮 effect. Agree on the lack of room interior but it's still a really nice display piece. With a little discount it's an instant buy.
The technique for the closed sails on your original moc is really ingenious and looks super natural. But man, you had a different Lego budget at 15 years old than me :O
Great vid! Lego ships aren't my favorite, but it's really cool to see how the designers made this! I just wish we would get more chrome gold, but I understand why they don't use it lol
hmm I really wish you showed how they connected the back at an angle, I can't find the instructions yet, and no photo really showcased that design solution. I need it specifically for a ship buid of my own :)
Oh wow I never realised the hinge piece was compatible with the clip until you flipped open the original carriage. Do the little friction nubs in the hinge pieces the same-ish circumference as a regular bar?
The bed is in interesting touch to the Durmstrang Ship re-make, because if you've read the book { as I have } , towards the end: Viktor Krum mentions that the students ran the ship on it's journey to Hogwarts and that Karkaroff slept for the whole voyage.
Having seen your most recent 4 Juniors Pirates video, I think that 2005 Durmstrang would make for a great base to create your own MOC of a potential pirate ship for Captain Kragg!
I definitely considered that pronunciation, but I felt I would ultimately get roasted harder in the comments since they say Bo-batt-ens in the movies xD
So glad they made this set! Totally didn’t see it coming and they did a pretty bang up job. The new one is obviously a much better and more accurate (looks like a whole different ship from the 2005 version) but I don’t think you can beat chrome antique brass studs
I really wish they printed the shield or recycled existing shields as a nod to the original one which had black? Falcons too. I kind of regret making my durmstrang moc now that this is coming out
@@CheeseyStudios okay I couldn't remember Thank you though. I think when I was younger I assumed the letter that goes on the desk was supposed to be hidden in there. Just my imagination twisting how the set is supposed to be haha
Weird fact about the Madame Maxime mini figure is that in the two sets she appeared in that year, the beauxbaton’s carriage and the hogwarts clock tower, both sets gave her different colored hair, with the Clock tower including the same dark brown hair as the new minifigure
Also what makes it even weirder it that both have “different” face prints where the only difference is that the eyebrows are the correct color to the hair.
@@CheeseyStudios I'd say that the arms separate from the torso too much. Normal arms touch the torso all the way down, while the big arms spread to the sides. Sorry if my explanation is weird. It's hard to find words for it.
A new naval sub theme for Lego would be pretty cool. Sort of like City, but set before the 1900s so we can get different sized sail ships, steam ships, wooden harbours, some islands to explore instead of the typical underwater or pirate themes. Ships of the world, similar to the Star Wars starship collection, with chinese junks, treasure ships, spanish galleons, carracks, etc

Not really a HP guy but am definitely a boat guy, so my opinion of it was initially very low. Amazing build and very true to it source it may be, but I still hold the opinion that it’s a bad boat, if a beautiful one.
The new ship should be its own set so all the pieces go into that model. The ship needs to be bigger and wider. Beaubatons' coach should also be its own set. It should at least have four winged horses
This looks amazing but I would have preferred if they had made the carriage and it's minifigures a separate set so we could get the ship for 100€ instead of 140€.
It would have been nice to get more figures for that price. Five is sort of disappointing for the huge price tag. Another generic student from each school would've been appreciated.
Regarding the fact that the original set didn't have sails,as far as I remember from the movie they traveled with the ship underwater(magic) and before Hogwarts they surfaced and you don't need sails underwater, btw I've seen movies 1-4 and listened to audiobooks 1-4 but I've only listened to book 4 only once(just for the record I haven't seen/listened to the movies/audiobooks after book 4 because it's becoming too dark for my taste if you know what I mean, and that's why I don't even plan on watching/listening to it because it's losed it's "magic"(A boy goes to a school of magic and wizardry and makes friends and has an adventures,4.movie/book is still ok but after 4. movie/book it gets unnecessarily dark and complicated )
I see that Hagrid didn’t have enough single malt whiskey for the Abraxan horses, and one of them died from thirst.

Oh god I hope the stickers survived the bathtub D:
I think they're doing okay honesty lol!
The new ship should be its own set so all the pieces go into that model. The ship needs to be bigger and wider.
Beaubatons' coach should also be its own set. It should at least have four winged horses
UCS Durmstrang ship would have been legendary lol
Did he ever say how much the new set cost ?
It's $140 in the US, and it should be up on LEGO.com if you want to check your local price
@@CheeseyStudios ohh thank you I like the sail on it I would look great for a custom red falcon ship
This looks amazing but I would have preferred if they had made the carriage and it's minifigures a separate set so we could get the ship for 100€ instead of 140€.
Yeah, especially since it hasn't been toooo long since we got the big carriage. It's a pricey set for sure
2024 ship gotta be my second favourite after the micro scale one in the hogwarts midi build
I totally should have included that little guy in the comparison haha!
Even though the play features are lacking, just the aesthetics blows the old one away.
It's such a gorgeous model! I'd love to try a custom that combines the best aspects of both
This new sets are nice and Clean :[]
The designers do incredible work, that's for sure!
I gonna reuse that ship for my medieval world cuz it looks like a cog with some exaggerated features but it looks sooo good :3
I think this is gonna be very popular with HP and non-HP fans alike - it's such a beautiful ship! Probably my favorite that LEGO has ever made.
It would have been nice to get more figures for that price. Five is sort of disappointing for the huge price tag. Another generic student from each school would've been appreciated.
Agreed. Durmstrang is just full of Krums right now from previous sets lol...
@@CheeseyStudios That ship is full of crumbs!
In a horrible world there's always something cheesey to help us along...
I gotchu covered
It reminds me of one of my white whale sets I would love to own… the SeaCow.
Ah, that set looks like so much fun!
I'm buying this ship just for parts. The sails will be great for a medieval ship.
Definitely! I sure hope LEGO makes more ships in the future.
I’m not a harry potter fan but I think I need that ship.
It's a beauty, isn't it?
I’m getting this bc it just looks like a great ship. And will go
Nice with my fleet!!
It's a beauty, isn't it? Man, I wish we got more LEGO ships!
Absolutely on both!!!
Im not that much into Harry Potter but the set looks great, I get why you like Harry Potter
The designers do great work with this theme, no doubt about it!
Damn those shields should’ve really really been printed. That sucks
Yeah. They would have made for amazing printed parts! Shields don't feel right with stickers on them
Stickers on shields?! Oh dear!
These are dark times indeed
im really only a fan of the stuff that look good. I recognize the charm of the old, but id take the new one any day :)
It is so much nicer looking, that's for sure lol
It works just fine without sails in my opinion too! Nothing's gonna beat those old flags anyway.
Thank you for this wonderful video.
The old ship is wonderful!
The new one ... just a huge disappointment.
They could hardly be more different lol!
