I’m from New Haven and lived 30 secs away from this place in Milford, trust me this pizza is a solid 9.1!
And something special about their pizzas in my experience, was the longevity of the great taste. 30 mins, 2 hours, or cold this pizza maintained the same taste! Some pizzas taste like cardboard if you don’t eat it hot.
30sec 😂 wasn’t expecting that.
@@wat4036 What were you expecting?
I went to Papa's Pizza today because of your review,. It was the best I have ever had in 50 years of eating pizza. I think it's better than 8.1
As a comparison, Dave gave ah-beetz in Delray Beach,FL an 8.4. There is no way a Florida pizza beats what he just had. Flabbergasted
That’s tough. I just rewatched that one recently and it looked a little better imo. Both bangers for sure though.
That’s because Dave got his ego hurt for some over-scores and now he is playing it conservative. BS that this pizza isn’t higher than some place in Kansas. C’mon Dave, gimme a break!!
He always says different scoring systems. Like how dudes say an LA 3 is an Ohio 10.
Thank Kass for at least a couple decimal points
Because of the people there buttering him up
Dave's overselling and underscoring on this trip, everybody knows the rules.
1:38 Still fit in a Large though, tell your friends about that
8.1 seems right
@@wolfsvision940 The way he was talking, I was thinking 8.3 or better
But what's the over/under on underselling and overscoring? Still many a pizza to be had.
Expected it to be 8.8 or 8.9 looks fucking great
the crunch was so satisfying
Dave should immediately open the box to let the pizza cool while he chats so he doesn’t burn his face off everyone knows the rules
Every-fucking-body
I mean, if he hasn’t learned by now . . .
Yep I've been thinking that for years
The Jew with a clue
1:38 Still fit in a Large though, tell your friends about that
The way Dave talk about driving from NY to Boston, it's like he's on a mission to Mars.
Hahaha, a pilgrimage of sorts. Everybody knows the rules.
Only thing to look forward to on a Monday other than sleep. I know we all joke about Dave but the man knows how to make entertaining content, and is genuinely doing a lot of good for these small pizza joints.
Man his scoring changed so much. This was a 8.4 minimum. Everything is either 7.9 or 8.1 now… unless it’s trash
The Foxon flavor Dave couldn't remember was Birch Beer.
that's a great soda...grew up with it in PA and was my favorite. Gotta get the red stuff made with real sugar. Boylan's made a very legit version if you ever see it in the stores. Most sodas are now made with that shitass HFCS....should be illegal.
He was going to say Wintergreen.
Yup. White Birch: A wintergreen breeze floats from the Alaskan birch tree, creating refreshing and subtle wintergreen taste. A favorite of New Englanders for years.
Dave it's Foxon Park White Birch Beer. And Papa's Pizza is atleast an 8.7
That’s an 8.8 all day. Davey didn’t take his adderall today. 😂
it really is an 8.8
Thought it was honestly a 9+ if the top was cooked a bit longer 9.2+ that crust was literally a 11/10
Crack heads don’t forget to get high
@@Amzyy The cheese has browned spots. Any longer and it would be overcooked.
I seen upper 8's and 9's, this is not in that range. 8.1 is a fair score.
The more pizza Prez reviews the more I realize he is completely lost in the sauce.
I know. 8.1 I was like no wayyyyyy
But yet we watch…and some troll.
@@jimherron5540 its not a troll. Its an observation over many reviews. Ive also observed that in youtube land if you don’t agree with the creator your viewed as a troll. 😂 fact is he adds .75-1 point for all CT made pizza. Its comical.
What's this "Pandemic" is that guy referring to...never noticed anything...
@@ryanesposito5755 everybody knows the rules
Dave is on his kick again of being to tough on the scores. Everyone knows the rules!
Too
Every-fucking-body
@@davidmontgomery1442 he hasn’t. Nothing lower than a 6.5. Nothing higher than a 8.3. Forget anything close to the 9s
That pizza looks 8.5+ to me, Dave's standards are bananas
he has no standards or methods... it's actually kinda messed up because his ratings affects businesses
@@johnd3124I never thought of the negative reviews that hurts business I wonder if anyone ever tried to sue over something like that it's a very valid point
I agree I said 8.5 he's all over the freaking place makes zero sense
8.5
@@johnd3124 He scores New Haven on a different scale...............a 8 in the midwest SUCKS................a 7 in New Haven Connecticut area is awesome pizza
The #8 from Papa's Pizza is pizza perfection to me. Russ and his crew never disappoint!
Legend has it, he is still smiling.
😂😂😂
"33 years, all yours?"
" I'm only 39, so.....".....priceless.
Haha he been making pizza since 5 yo
Damn Dave you low balled that pizza
i think he's tougher on pizzas in the northeast, and expects more from them compared to other regions, especially Connecticut, which needs to be OUTSTANDING for dave to give it more than an 8.3
Dave scores partly on vibes. It's not always logical or consistent a lot of the time. Feel like this place had no vibes for him and no sit down place he could enjoy the history of it.
Random worker made the pizza. Not some owner-operator of 36 years. So there's no story or history to tell.
@@cjaquilino it's been a few years since i been there, but i swear back then the pie looked quite a bit better, this pie needed a little more cooking time
@@mikeystheone 8.1 is fair. Just thought he’d go a bit higher. He didn’t have much criticism of it. Have a feeling he’s gonna score Fuoco higher.
D’oh!! with the Prez assuming the dude is a ‘bit’ older 😂 at 2:18
Dave: "Where are we?" He really knows how to ask the big, existential questions.
Been watching these damn reviews so long i call the scores on spot accurately more videos then you'd think.
Dude is living life. Gave up graphics design to make pizza. He's got the key to a happy life.
He doest make pizza, he eat it 😂
One bite everybody knows the rules
8.1, everybody knows that was an 8.6
My favorite pizza place of all time. Glad he didn’t go higher, because they already have a long wait.
That’s true. You already have to call in a few hours early
"How long have you had this spot for?" .... Est. 1986 across his chest...gotta love Dave
Can’t believe i have been binge watching,,,,, great entertainment
I love how he still does the little step back and stare into the camera when he gives us an 8 like we don’t already know new haven is gonna be 8s default lol
Davey your scores are bananas. You are all over the place.
Expected an 8.4 or 8.5 from the way he was talking. 8.1 seemed low. Everybody knows the rules
He gives everything an 8.1 now regardless of how phenomenal the pie looks. He’s losing his touch.
After all these reviews, Im going to have to visit New Haven.
Never been on my bucket list
but Dave twists my pizza arm.
Same, kinda refreshing to know I don't have to visit the sewer city, NYC
If you live in the Northeast its a nice pitstop along a road trip. Roadtripped NYC to Maine in 2021, stopping in New Haven there and back to try Pepes and Sallys. Both worth it, Sallys is the best pizza I have ever had.
@@parispc heard modern is awesome
Just make sure you account to time cause the Hew Haven place’s wait times can be ridiculous
If you aren’t taking out. And if you are taking out still order early lol
Just got home from New Haven this weekend. Modern pizza was the best, Sally’s was a disappointment, frank Pepe’s was in the middle, and Bar’s mashed potato pizza slaps
Thank you for comjng to milford, this spot is close to my house. Made me smile.
most consistent thing in my life.
Hell yaaa
Dave is exhausted on this trip. That’s why we are getting crazy scores. Everyone knows the rules
When dave gives the score in a question kinda tone.. 8.1?? Priceless!
Been waiting for Dave to come back to Connecticut and he’s way underballing everything 😭
We are in Milford!!! Papa's is great pizza! Most people think it's the best in Milford.
"So how long have you had the spot here?" Dave wearing their shirt that says since 1986
🤣🤣🤣
8.1, 2 bumps and a large t shirt, we all know dave's living life right
Good to see Dave crack the box to cool the pizza a bit. Great score!
And it "stawps et frum steamin' there kid"
I love this place i live in walking distance and i can honestly say i think hes underscoring it
Foxxon Park Birch beer is awesome!
Hear that crunch, see the char, 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I'm glad you bought the shirt too.
I worked near papas for years and never tried this place. I’m going today!!!
He should get a 10 for offering a Foxon Park!
I’ll take a white clam and a Foxon Birch Beer!
Everybody knows that’s a good looking pizza! Come on Dave!
Shit looks legit in the thumbnail
Thats also not the main guy that makes the pies there… i was there yesterday… its a little heavier on the cheese than wooster street… its an 8.5 all day
I've become unreasonably good at guessing the scores at this point. It's not a skill I would choose but it's a skill I have
suffering from success. I guessed 8.1 too haha
This guy staring out the window the whole time is ridiculous😂😂😂
Huh... Dave could just as easily walked away from the window. Looks to me like Dave was the one that wanted to ask him questions.
Dave kept calling him back!
Buster Scruggs looking fellow
@@gabes3dvideos For real!!! LOL
The guy standing behind with a smile needs to be a meme. Get to it nerds!
Pino’s in Brighton Mass an 8.8, and this is only an 8.1, the scoring is bananas. Not sure how many more of these I can stomach.
New Haven pizza is held to a higher standard. Anything over an 8, you should drive to check it out. I'm blessed to be living 15 minutes to 1/2 hour from these spots.
A New Haven style pizza that Dave likes and only an 8.1?
Seems weird.
Was the score dumbed down bc it wasn’t IN New Haven?
He gave ah-beetz in Delray Beach,FL an 8.4. I have had it twice and it’s a 7.2 MAX. The pizza he just ate runs LAPS around the crap down here. Shame!
Someone needs to tell the employee that the place is in New Haven County.
Connecticut people don’t know what county they are in because there aren’t county governments.
King of Underscore Here folks. Get a load uh dis guy!
Dave underscored. Everybody knows the rules.
bro in the back cheesing
Did you hear the crunch on that first bite? Holy cow! This should be an 8.7
great score; great review
I was getting my hair done at the salon next door when this happened, we were all crowded around the window watching, if the rating was less than an 8 there was a crowd of folks with dye on our hair ready to fight for Papas Pizza’s honor! 😆
How do I not watch this all the time
Whenever I go to Milford for pizza I usually go to GG's but now I'm going to have to try this place. 👍🏻
YOOOO I RECOMMENDED PAPA'S PIZZA!!! Worth the wait, I have it every week. Also big shoutout to GiGi's in Milford as well.
i trust Davey's scoring but definitely a lowball, regardless if it was set to a high New Haven standard
it was already a 2+ hour wait on Friday's and half the time they cut the telephone line cause they already have too many pickups. Now it'll be a 3-4 hour wait....
@@mbj920 How much do they charge for a pizza like in the video?
@@KebabEater $18 before tax for a large cheese which off the top of my head is 18 inches. They get pretty expensive with toppings, but it is a good size
This guys operating this joint from the side of his house.
He just loves this style of pizza brick oven new haven style.
Dave you should have reviewed Jimmys pizza in Milford. Jimmy was married to one of Zuppardi's daughters and his 30 year old son owns the new Zuppardis in Ansonia I believe. Jimmy was making Pizza with the original Zuppardi in the late 70's
I live a few blocks from this place and it's easily the best pizza in Milford -- a bit pricey but worth it. The brick oven makes all the difference.
I’m convinced Dave is done having guests do the reviews with him.
The pres has me trying to figure out how to spend a few days in a place a thousand miles away.
Dave broke the record for how long it took to ask where he was. Everybody knows the rules 🍕
Papa's is great. Jimmy's in Milford is my favorite, though!
8.1???? That's a 8.4 and up for sure!!!!!!!!!! 😂 Maaaaannnn
my dad is papa pizza. thanks for this.
I’m sure I saw Dave step back and say wtf! When the guy said he was 39 😂😂😂
White Birch and New Haven pizza-IT'S A BEAUTIFUL THING!
Match made in heaven.
Hey, I live a few blocks from this place. I love Pepe’s and Wooster street pizza, but since i moved here I never feel like I need to go to New Haven for pizza anymore, I just go to Papa’s. I feel the score should have been 9+, but to each their own.
Dave’s brains scrambled!! A pizza as good as that only gets an 8.1? Come on Dave, that was an 8.4 all day long!!!
Daves scoring system is all over the place these days, everybody knows the rules.
That's an 8.6 all day
3:40 For those who aren't aware he scores New Haven area pizza on a different scale...............a 8 in the midwest, Florida, etc is a 6 TOPS in New haven area
Best pizza in connecticut. Russell makes A great pie, Especially to mushroom and broccoli on a white sauce.😊
Gather 'round, my friends, let me take you on a quest,
To a realm of pizza, where taste is put to the test.
For there's a man, a legend, with a rule of his own,
To judge the slices, the flavors, in a world well-known.
With swagger and style, he strides to each joint,
The one-bite master, a connoisseur of every point.
He takes a slice, raises it high, like a king,
And with one swift bite, the judgment begins to sing.
"One bite, everybody knows the rule," he proclaims,
As he delves into the pizza, where flavor remains.
His taste buds awaken, senses come alive,
To savor each ingredient, like a treasure to strive.
From New York to Chicago, across the pizza map,
He travels and tastes, never taking a nap.
Each bite brings insight, a story to unfold,
As he narrates the experience, bold and untold.
The cheese, the sauce, the crust's delightful crunch,
All scrutinized with precision, like a poetic hunch.
He seeks perfection, that sacred pizza grace,
And with each review, he leaves a trace.
For in his quest, he enlightens the pizza lover's soul,
Sharing opinions and insights, a pizza symphony, whole.
And though opinions may differ, and tastes may collide,
The one-bite rule unites, as he takes us on this ride.
So raise your slices high, with passion and delight,
As we honor the man, the legend, in our own right.
For in one bite, we join the chorus of his rule,
Celebrating the pizza, a universal fuel.
Oh, the joy of that perfect slice, a bite to treasure,
In the realm of pizza reviews, a taste beyond measure.
So let us toast to the man, with gratitude and respect,
The one-bite hero, whose rule we'll never forget.
00:40 White Birch Foxon Park
dave is slipping with the under scores. past his prime.
Ehhh 8.1 was perfect. Wasn’t crisp enough for a high 8
I was thinking 8.8+ the way he was talking. Big oversell/underscore.
@@Dexerion he seemed to like it but not on the scale of his favorite New Haven’s. You know when he’s in love with the pizza.
@@skoolynugenator1802 I respect that. He wasn't super excited about the pizza. He was very let down to realize the guy wasn't the owner.
I love Dave everybody knows the rules
Me too everybody knows the rules
After thousands of pizzas and a few hundred apizza Dave is still confused
Everyone knows the rules
Every-fucking-body
Go to Joanie’s pizza in clemsford MA. Best, most Dave pizza I’ve had in MA.
Weird slices: picks up the most perfect triangular slice I have ever seen. Everybody knows the rules
Back on the west, one of my biggest regrets from moving from back from the east coast is never making as far north as New Haven to try this style of pizza.
Every bite u hear that crunch
Poppas is awesome!!
Gotta try Illianos in Waterford and Grand Apizza in Madison Ct. Both just off 95
There's a food truck in that town called Lobster Hut. Used to pass thru that town all the time. I know we're talking pizza here. But it's worth checking out
My favorite thing to watch during poppy time
Once I heard the crunch Dave, I knew we were in the 8+ range for Papa’s…. lands 8.1. There you go….
Dave loves dried out, preferably somewhat burnt pizza. To each his own! 😂🍕
let me guess. you like doughy cheesy bowling alley pizza
Grew up in new haven county. Live in milford now. Papas on Naugatuck 0:20 is my 5th best Apizza.
1. Sallys
2. Pepes
3. Modern
4. Zupps
5. Papas
8.1 is low
lmao the dorky friendliness
the flavor of foxen park you were thinking of is white birch
If he gave it an 8.1 the taste must not have been that great, because everything else seemed on point!
He underscored it because it's CT
I knew when he opened it it would be an 8.1 he probably would have gone lower if he hadn't over sold it and bought a shirt. Just trying to save face with that 8.1. it looks like a 7.8 pie
@@jsanders9975 WHAT!? New Haven is in CT (15 mins away) which is his favourite pizza location of all time. Wtf are you on about guy? He literally spends half the video saying it too!?!?
@sparklejarret5825 you gotta realize the scale shift when he comes to New Haven... competing with some of the best spots around, Zuppardis (8.2), Pepe's (8.5), Modern (8.8), Sally's (9.2). To get into the 8's around here is impressive
@@garycastronova7939 I also predicted 8.1 based on how he was talking while eating it. He wanted to go lower but he bought the shirt. I think it looked too crisp on the bottom and crust too hard
I grew up 2 minutes away from Papa's. I am a self proclaimed ":New Haven style Pizza snob" I also lived in New Haven for 15 years. My faves ....1 Sally's New Haven . 2 Pepes , New haven as well as Fairfield. 3 Pappas Milford/Devon . 4 BAR New Haven. 5 Zuppardi"s West Haven ,6 Jimmy's Milford , totally underrated.. 7 woodbridge pizza ,woodbridge , 8 Ernies pizza westville /new haven . I had Modern for 5 days straight , working within walking distance, not too shabby, pehaps #9. I cannot wrap my head around anyone who enjoys Colony , I would rather eat my own English muffin pizza at home.
WHITE BIRCH BEER SODA, I GOT YOU DAVE
that pizza looks WAAAYYYYY better than Sally's weird orange and black thing it's got going on
