Great info on this bike. You answered a few questions that I was unable to get answered elsewhere. I'm a little disappointed that you didn't address the current battery situation. If you're going to give thorough information on a bike, I think it would be better to give all the info.
Ah, I see the confusion. Those were for different bikes with completely separate batteries/drive units. The Spectral:ONfly uses the TQ HPR-50 motor and their 360 Wh battery, the recalled batteries were the ones associated with the Shimano EP-801 powered bikes
yeah as an older person who can finally afford a higher end bike but can't keep up with the kids, I find I need to compensate with something like DJI avinox
Changing from 165mm to 160mm has me using boost much more often and getting less range on my ep-801/540Wh. It’s a trade-off, so for longer days I would reinstall the 165mm or consider 170mm. Either would be $500-$700 of dollars less than a range extender.
Definitely feeling like you're falling behind, even when you're in boost and they're in mid. Other "lightweight" systems like the Fazua Ride 60 and Bosch SX are better in that department
It's a good looking bike, but I personally don't see the benefit of the non-full power e-bike. I have a 2018 Commencal Meta Power with a Shimano E8000 motor and it can easily do 18 miles with over 3000 ft of climbing and use only 1/4 of the battery. The weight is actually a benefit, because e-bikes have the plushest suspension with it. You can also run durable, but mid-ranged components, because they actually work better for the use case. In my opinion, if you're going purely for lightweight, stick with an acoustic bike.
All great points! Personally, I find that the ride feel of a full power 60+ lb E-MTB is different enough from an analog bike that it starts to feel like a whole different activity. Still a fun activity, just not mountain biking. The "SL" bikes still feel like mountain biking to me which is why I prefer them, but yes, the decreased range and, in this case, flat tires, are a bummer
What this review failed to mention is that this is the lightest eMTB in the industry. Nothing else is lighter. Because you can’t use battery due to fire risk stop-use email notice that Canyon sent out recently. If this feature is attractive to you then buy Canyon.
There’s actually quite a few lighter, but it’s still impressive! The battery situation you mentioned only applies to the Spectral:ON, not the light weight ON:fly featured in this video
Well rounded review. Very thorough. Thanks for posting!
Glad you liked it!
another great video Josh... keep 'em coming! love all of the great central OR scenery shots!
Thank you man!!
Great info dump on this review, thank you! Another one to add to the list of e-bikes for my analysis paralysis shopping.
Oh analysis paralysis is the best haha, saves me a lot of money!

Glad you found it helpful! Mind explaining what you mean by the “current battery situation?” I’m not sure what you’re referring to
@@99spokesThere’s a worldwide recall on the Spectral:On CF/CFR and the Torque:On batteries 💥 🔥 think first reported over a month ago

Great review. Concise and accurate.
And yes ebikes should have shorter size specific cranks.
Right on, glad you enjoyed it!
The bike looks fantastic. Seems to middle ground for me though. I'd rather have a sick normal bike and a full-power eMTB.

@@lechprotean whoa - that DJI motor will more than compensate - you'll be pulling them uphill with ease on that thing!
Using 145mm cranks on my e-bike. I like to spin a lot, feel perfect to me.
Nice! What cranks are you running?

Good to know, thanks for sharing that!
Looks clean.
This bike is 🔥
How is it riding with high power mtbs on the spectral onfly? Like are you able to keep up somehow or do you just completely fall behind?
