    Just have to comment on the "Canyon Medium" part... I couldn't help but LOL on that. But you might want to be careful here. Reach numbers tell a big part of the story, but so does wheel base, AND those things in relation to what you are after.
    I started sizing up my bikes around 2011 and went to Large frames from medium. And with great success in my opinion. But the geo's were a still rather different compared to today. My last bike before going to the '23 Spectral was a size large '14 Canfield Balance. So when looking at bikes and comparing the geo's to the Balance, I found that while the large Spectral wheel base was nearly 4 inches longer, the reach number was only a half inch longer!
    In other words, the cockpit is nearly identical while now I having a longer wheelbase (which creates different pros and cons). This sounded perfect too me on paper and so far has been the case in the real. Had I gone down to a medium, I would be back in a more cramped cockpit AND not gotten what I was looking for from a longer wheel base.
    Perhaps a vid or story diving more into bike and size selection in relation to modern geo's vs old ones AND riding styles?
    That all said, great series!!!! Keep it up!

    Great review. I have a 22' Spectral 125 that I swapped out the airspring to 160 and bumped up the shock stroke a bit. Sounds like Canyon had a similar idea with this version.

      I did the same thing. Went to 160. But head tube angle was to slack. Went to 150 on my fork and went to a 210x52.5 coil. Bike is savage meow. I went with the 125 Al 5. And pretty much swapped everything. Nobl wheel set. Shimano drivetrain and Xt brakes Fox suspension and a bomber cr coil so I can run air and coil. I do ride mine half the time in the bike park with the coil and air when I’m trial riding.

    Thumbs down on 140/150mm travel bikes. Once you've got that much travel and that much weight, you might as well go for 150/160mm travel bike because it's going to weigh about the same but that extra 10mm of travel will make the bike a little more capable.

    • @LaurentiusTriarius
      @LaurentiusTriarius 19 часов назад +6

      Actual travel and the leverage curve of the bike might make a 160 feel like 140 and inversely, some 150 bikes are less capable than some 130/140 that's for shawwwr my man

      I completely understand where you're coming from and I can definitely understand the allure of getting Bikes at a discount.
      With that, I don't think that a bike shop simply provides a bike. They provide an experience. They provide you somebody to bounce ideas off of, tryout different options, get your bike serviced, build a relationship with And hopefully enjoy each other's company. If we constantly give up valuable pieces of culture in order to save money I feel like we're doing ourselves the service.
      However, i'm happy you enjoy your bike and wish you nothing but the best.

      frankly the romantization of a "bike shop culture" is just outdated. there is just business now
      i do however have good relationships with one mechanic, and this is imho also the direction it should go. services will always be local. a good mechanic is a better asset to a bike shop than the 10k bike in the window
