as someone who lives in LA county, i appreciated the amount that jetblue served one of our smaller airports. While i would've preferred them to set up shop at burbank because it is closer to home, i will always miss being able to fly cross country out of Long beach instead of LAX
Not gonna lie, I got Slightly emotional. Being from SLC and an avid Disney fan, I have flown this route well over 40 times since they entered both airports. LGB slowly grew to be my favorite airport. I could see my son's head at the beginning of your walk up the aisle, tipped to the side as he was asleep. Thank you for letting me experience that final flight with them!

Great video! Flew out of SLC three weeks before COVID hit hard and many times over more years than I care to admit to. Gate 4 used to be Northwest and where I departed on my last 727 flight! Thanks for the footage. Gonna miss the Terminal 1.
So, funny story. I used to work at an MRO called Empire Aero Center in Rome, NY. Back in 2009, we were contracted to install new avionics packages and seat back passenger screens in ALL of Jet Blue's A320s. I remember working on this EXACT tail number, N509JB. Crazy seeing it 11 years later with those same screens we put in.
Wow, thanks for sharing this video! I've flowing in LGB a couple of times on B6. Enjoyed every bit of it. Really sad that they've departed. I feel city of LB screwed up the relationship with B6 and it going sour.
@@byromania B6 also decided it wanted to consolidate its operations to save money. No reason they could not keep a smaller presence at LGB and shift international flights to LAX. jetBlue could have run LGB with the same reduced traffic as it does at ONT and BUR and simply removed its status as a focus city. Southwest was quick to grab B6s gates, someone still feels LGB has value for passengers.

My first JetBlue flight into LGB was right after they started flying there. I remember we deplaned and I went in a door I thought was the terminal and 6 feet later I went through another door and was outside at the baggage pickup. I thought were was the terminal. Did I miss it? Love that airport. Flew jB many times there over the years.
Man my sister used to go to Long Beach City College and about every 2-3 months we would fly down there with Jetblue from Oakland to Long Beach. Going to miss those early morning foggy arrivals :(
You make me feel old saying you grew up on Jet Blue. My first flight was on Eastern Airlines when I was a kid in the 80s. There was still a smoking section.
@@zhide4 alot of things, putting the screws to them, plus they wanted to expand internationally and was willing to throw $$ but LGB politicians said no🖕
Yes. I live in Long Beach, and certain members of the Long Beach City Council, and neighborhood noise groups around the airport have had it in for jetBlue for quite some time! They made life very difficult for jetBlue to continue a viable operation there. They practically told this great airline to leave!! It's really sad because jetBlue put Long Beach Airport on the map. I'm sad to see B6 go, but I wish them every success at LAX!
I love JetBlue it is always one of my favorite airlines! It’s a shame that they are departing LGB. I also would like to see a trip on the new A320 seating.
Of note, my last flight out of LGB on JetBlue was the same routing (to/from SLC) and flight numbers (232/231) on August 25, 2020, but on a newer A320 with the "Classic" cabin w/ Sharklets (N804JB, which was Fly-Fi aircraft #1 in 2013)
That is such a nice airport, Jet Blue helped made that airport the place to fly out of instead of flying out of LAX. I literally could show up 45 mins before my flight in the morning and still be on time. It’s my go to airport for JetBlue. Sad to see them leave.
My airport might be adding 4 outdoor boarding gates for smaller regional aircraft in addition to our 45 gates currently and the 23 planned to be constructed. They also want to add up to 15 I. Addition to those 23 new gates so it’s gonna be interesting
Pretty sad that this was the last time JetBlue will ever touch the ground in Long Beach! I still find it hard to believe that they aren’t there anymore after about 20 years there it’s the end of an era. Back in 2000 when JetBlue started servicing Long Beach, they didn’t serve LAX or Burbank at the time. JetBlue started LAX in 2009, JetBlue started Burbank in 2005

Had a pleasure of flying out of Long Beach on a day trip to San Francisco while I was out visiting LA....it was great. No long lines and not too many people like over at LAX. Too bad JetBlue is leaving LGB
Thanks for wonderfully making this video and tribute. Also thanks to Long Beach and their over the top liberal seats overseeing the airport you can thank them driving out another great airline. I don’t blame them tho for it. Keep their cute airport small, the negatives- having to drive to lax, boo!
good news regarding travel in the aviation industry, over one million people have flown in a single day for the first time since late march, hopefully that number keeps rising and slowly coming back
The only airline I've flown on in my life has been JetBlue, and even though I've never gone to or from LGB, I just feel so bad and believe JetBlue deserved better since apparently they were kicked out by another airline or something like that
Had the same sens of passage of aviation eras in the 90's when I realized most of the 727's with their red and orange interiors were aging out, and I would not be flying surrounded by red, or in 727's that much longer. What I also noticed as the 757 and MD's took over from the 727 was how much steeper they took off, and how you could feel the initial acceleration more on the newer aircraft. The 707 was positively anemic.

I was a regular flier on the JFK - LGB route. You could land, grab a rental car, and be on the 405 in under a half hour. It was a great airport for those seeking to travel to OC and wanted to avoid the congestion of LA. Flew JFK - LAX a few weeks ago with JetBlue. The modern A321 with new seats, great IFE, and quick internet was appreciated. But LAX where B6 is located is a dump and it takes awhile to catch the rental car shuttle. Definitely not an improved travel experience for myself. LAX adds an extra hour to my trip compared to LGB. I only hope B6 looks at opening up gates at SNA in the near future.
Long Beach for decades has been anti aviation, even back in the late 1930s when the US Navy set up its aviation base. Council members back then wanted the airport shut down.
