I just picked up a 13 Jetta tdi for 300 bucks and have a 2wd 84 pickup was thinking of dropping it into. My 85 4runner with the om617 (crawler build) is fun but slow as hell kinda want something with a little more hit.
I've got a 13 JSW tdi that I'm gonna pull the CJAA out of and put in my 86 Pickup SR4 4x4. I plan on doing a full rebuild and pushing it to like 250-300hp in front of a Marlin Crawler built r150f
@mattchueeyyy1219 nice! Definitely do a centerforce clutch or better to hold that, my 250 HP Toyota will not hold with anything but a dual friction centerforce clutch rated for 425 TQ
The CBEA harness is different than the CJAA harness too. Different length and uses the old style glow plug relay. Golf harnesses are different than the Jetta ones too I think. I left the whole engine side harness intact on mine and just wired in the oval plug. Not as clean but less work. I left the stock fuse block too lol. It's getting redone at some point. You do need K line if you want Vagcom or any scanner to work. I had to add it on mine. You also need to add in the manifold EGT. It's actually readable on can or obd. Depending on tuner you may or may not need the first 02 sensor also. I didn't use it but I think Malone does. Everything downstream can be removed also on the exhaust but again not sure depending on tuner.
That makes sense, I figured there were some differences, nothing that will affect it running though. You wouldn't normally use a CBEA ECU on a CJAA harness, and yes I left all sensors labeled so even if they were cut they can be spliced in. Talking to the tuner is an important detail
@bigtoy302 ya I reread it 😂 all the pins are still going to be the same between the ecus even with different lengths and glow plug modules. Just like previous stuff has been between the older ECUs. All in all it's not terrible.
@@TDISwaps Yeah the ECU's are all the same wiring wise. Other weird thing is the CBEA does have K line if I recall but not the CJAA. It's been 5 years since I did my harness lol. I had to add it to mine or nothing would read. Snap on scanner and Vagcom would not connect without it for some reason. So it might depend on who tunes it and what SW version the ECU is. Mine was a DSG ECU flashed manual. 2010 ECU but my engine and harness was 2012. My tuner requested certain ECU variants, that's why I went with the early ECU. The 2010-2011 ECU is different from the 2012-2014 ones.
@bigtoy302 yeah I've seen that with the older ones once they get tuned communications can be weird, this thing fires right up with vcds using the can bus wiring though so the customer wasn't concerned about anything else.
Any help with a cjaa stand alone harness would be great... im knee deep in a cjaa swap and wiring has slowed the project to an almost stop 😢 any help with pinouts and wiring diagrams for a 2011 jetta 2.0 tdi would be greatly appreciated
Best to join the TDI swapped group on Facebook, they have all the schematics in the files section. I also build this for $600 if you don't want to mess with it
Hey man I was hoping you could help me out here. I’m trying to make a stand along wiring harness and I had a few questions I was hoping you had answers to. I’m using the same wiring diagram/pin out page as the one you have used made my David shoemaker. On the physical alternator plug there is a brown/red stripe wire on the wiring diagram it’s labeled (generator), but also on the plug there is a a solid blue wire as well and I don’t see where that leads to or what it does exactly. Same for the A/C plug. I’m not sure exactly what the black/green and brown/ black wires go to because the plug wires are different than what the wiring diagram shows (wiring diagram shows solid green and blue/red pins 29 and pin 34 Lastly a lot of tiny wires have to have power sent to them and I’m curious how I need to run them. Do I run them straight to a battery? Do I use an inline fuse for every single wire? Or do I use an aftermarket fuse box from Amazon or something? I know that’s a lot but I sure do appreciate the help
Haha ya that's a lot 😂 so I cheat on the alternator, OEM ones will run with just 12v to both regulator wires. Not sure if that helps or not. The AC wires to the ECU are not the same as the clutch wires on the AC compressor. I don't mess with the ones on the ECU, green on the compressor is power, black is ground, easy as that. All 12v + on the sensors and ECU go to one relay on my harnesses, everything will run on one 15amp fuse. VW made this 1000% more complicated than it needed to be. Hope that answers everything.
Nice diagram. Where did you find it? I've been using the bently manual and it's a pain. One problem I've noticed is the CBEA uses the CAN bus-ABS module-left front wheel sensor for a VSS signal. I'm not sure if the engine will go into limp mode or defuel without a VSS input, I'm still building the truck. The glow plug and check engine indicators are CAN bus to the dash, there are a couple companies that make CAN adapters but they aren't cheap.
The basic ones you can get on AliExpress searching the part number, some of them are hard to get though especially the ECU plugs themselves on these newer ones.
@ 320,000 miles and several times pulling the motor out for work hasn’t been kind to my harness, I’ve been thinking about going through and re wiring it.
Hello sir love your videos! I got a question for you i drive a 2006 ram 2500 with a cummins what would be my best bet to put a tdi in it as far as transmission cant find a tdi to 48re conversion anywhere.. thanks
That's a pretty heavy truck for a TDI haha, but ya with no Chrysler adapters you would be forced to go with a lighter duty jeep transmission like the aw4 auto or nv3500/4500 or something like that
@TDISwaps awesome yea I didn't think about the nv4500 that would be a good choice and yea I kno it's a heavy truck but after seeing how heavy you pull with yours I was impressed I never tow anything with mine I'm really interested in doing a full mechanical tdi swap cuz mine is on the border of needing injectors and id rather spend the money on a tdi swap and sell my engine before I end up burning the motor.. also wich page is yours on Facebook ID love to follow you on there also thanks!
@jasondee2606 here is my Facebook, I don't do much posting on there though. So I would not recommend a mechanical injection pump on that big of a truck unless you are doing compound turbos as well. It was almost impossible for me to keep EGTs under control testing on my 4000lb jeep and a single wastegated turbo like you would use with a mechanical pump. You need very lean tuning with VNT turbo and ECU to not run super hot on hills with a bigger rig, but compounds "may" also solve that. facebook.com/profile.php?id=100014261163897&mibextid=ZbWKwL
hey question for my ahu engine, i think it’s the wiring for the pump 3 pin one, anyways, the engine would randomly stall but started up fine at random times because of that wire i believe. any thoughts of what you might think it is?
Freaking awesome! This opens a whole new area for swaps!
Yes sir!
That is a ton of wiring!! Wow
Ya it's a little crazy!

Ya these TDIs will move compared to most of the OM engines. Biggest issue is all the tuning and deletes needed on the CR along with a CP3 upgrade.

As for the Dakota gauge cluster how did you get the tachometer to work as well as all the oil pressure, temp guages etc. etc.?
@ydocproductions5593 no problem man! Go to the Dakota playlist and find the videos on gauges, fuel system and tach wiring it's all there

Those schematics are on the TDI swapped trucks Facebook group file section. Yes tuning will need to disable the VSS I'm sure
Where do you source new replacement plugs?
The basic ones you can get on AliExpress searching the part number, some of them are hard to get though especially the ECU plugs themselves on these newer ones.

Thoughts on the 1.9 ALH mechanical diesel pumps off of eBay? I got my eye on one but idk if it's a good idea
They seem to have good customer service, too new of a company to really have reviews
Hey, do you offer swap services for customers?
I am currently only doing wiring and ECU tuning support. Not the actual swap itself.
@@TDISwapsthanks for the reply. Recommend any shops that might do such a thing in the area?
@curtischornohos6365 I know of a guy in Idaho and one in Nebraska but they aren't very cheap

I'm sorry I ran out of money 😭
