Ingredients for Arisi upma
To grind for the arisi upma powder (Ratio given)
Raw Rice - 400gms
Toor dhal - 75 gms
Bengal Gram - 75gms
Urad dhal - 50 gms (Add this only when you are planning to use the same mix for thavala adai, upma and pidi kuzhakattai). If you are making only arisi upma this can be ignored.
Pepper - 2 tsp
Cumin - 2 tsp
We used 200ml from the above powder
To temper
Coconut Oil - 4 tsp
Ghee - 2 tsp - (Optional)
Hing - 1 small piece
Mustard - 1 tsp
Bengal Gram -1 tsp
Urad dhal - 1 tsp
Others
Grated Coconut - 1 - 2 tblsp
Dry Red Chili - 2
Green chili - as needed
Ginger - as needed
Curry leaves
Salt as needed

Aunty, I have vengala paani, but I never cooked upma in it only rice. I always tried arisi upma in kadai or cooker. But today I tried upma in vengala paani in the same method you said it came out tasty and nice. My family and kids also liked it. Thank you so much.. Please keep posting your videos

Thank you for the excellent explanation about Vengalam vessel. Can we make Tamarind based dishes in Vengalam..? Once i made Sambar in Iron kadai and within hours it turned greenish. Sometimes the iron taste comes too much in the dish. So i was afraid to use Vengalam.
Don't use tamarind in iron vessel

There is a variety of vengalam called kaccha vengalam, which can be used for making sambar and rasam also that doesn’t turn green. But I’m not able to find such vessels these days. Pls provide insight on the availability if you know :)

All time favourite dish, cooker la seiyaratha vida itha mathiri seiyarathu romba taste ah irukum sis, my patti yum, mamiyarum superb ah ithey mathiri seivanga, but nan try pannum pothu I am fail to cook this upma sis, definitely I try this upma according to mami's rules soon sis

It s advisable not to make rice or sour or salty items n vengala paanai.i make only rice rava upma nd sweet pongal n vengala paanai. Still i make only paruppu rasam n eeya sombu.after it s done,after 1 hour or so itransfer to other vessel.marundhu rasam,lemon rasam wont tasye good n eeua sombu

Mouth watering. I'm also from mylapore but now in Bangalore. When u tell the shops name ATN all it brings my memories. N especially Miami's tamil brings my memories bcz I use to talk with my friends in this type of tamil. Though my mother tongue is marathi. I really miss this type of tamil here. Many people say that bronze vessels break on heating while cooking. So we shouldn't use them. I was searching videos for cooking in bronze vessels from MANY days. Today I landed on ur page. But I don't understand Tamil. Could you PLEASE tell is it safe for the Bronze utensil to be heated and used for cooking. Can u share some tips. KINDLY REPLY. Already tired of searching regarding Bronze utensil cooking.

as mentioned in my description of ingredients , ulundu is added when the same flour is used for multiple purposes. If only upma not needed :)

vengalam(bronze) is different from pithalai(brass). are you sure madam bronze also needs tin coating. in the shop the i went through told it will be required for bronze. just a confirmation as i don't have much knowledge about traditional cookware.

Amma solra warm pothe transfer food is applicable for Pithalai or vengalam or both ,coz she speaks about pithalai while explaining about vengala panai
They are 2 different. She generally follows the same rules for both. Unless eeyam is applied for pithalai

Its cleaned with water and dried in cloth before taking to mill. Not shown in the video though
