We installed the Max6 and 4990 G2 combo in our Kraton 6s V5 and it has impressed us so far. We are running it on 6s and it is a rocket. We need to do more testing, but so far it is amazing! And the bluetooth works just fine, at least on a Samsung android phone.
Yeah generally the Bluetooth isn't bad but I have had a few issues with it over the years with their other Bluetooth adapters and with a couple of software updates that did not go well. I don't really mind using it in general I just think making it the only option is a pretty bold move.
I'm hoping Hobbywing will cone out with an upgraded version of their Max4 ESC. Capable of 16S. Yeah, I know, I like pushing my RCs to the Max. No pun intended.
I'm looking at the G2 combo systems for my 4S outcast build. Wish they all had the bluetooth built in. I would get this for one of the EXB outcast or kraton.
I think the XLX2 would crush it. The Max 5 G2 would be more of a fair comparison but even then the XLX2 would probably win. Castle tends to put less safety restriction on their power output which is why you mostly see Castle ESCs in speedrun vehicles
I did it I ordered it came in had two bash sessions and all I got was clogging. hobby wing has terrible customer service first time getting from them and I’m really disappointed
Finally the new Max 6 is out, I might have to buying the 4990 1,650kv combo for my XO-1 and maybe my future limitless V2 or other cars and the 5690 1,250KV combo for my X-Maxx. Now i feel like an idiot for buying my old 5687 motor earlier this month but at least if these work and there are no fires or any other issues i don't have to buy a Firma 160 for my X-Maxx. Can't wait to get my hands on some of these combos for myself.
Same here. I checked the site just a few minutes after it came out and they showed sold out so I'm not sure if I missed it or if they haven't started selling them yet. We shall see!

Before the Max 6 G2 came out yesterday i considered the MMX 8s for my XO-1 but now i might consider the Max 6 G2 with the 4990SD G2 1,650KV for XO.
@@cjchannel12RC Yeah it really depends on what you're doing. If you're doing speed runs the castle ESC might be better just because they are a little less restrictive. That's why most speedrunners use castle stuff.
Have a max5 g2 with 780kv hobbystar 56112 on 12s outcast, and even without a fan it runs surprisingly cool. Wish it included bluetooth to see the amps its drawing. Looks like the max6 is gonna be fine for 8s 1/5 scale.
@DoRC I noticed it ramps slower or maybe for longer than the stock Spektrum/rebranded hobbywing esc, I put it down to being a 8s vs 12s difference. Now I'm wondering if I should try the sensored motor. I would've started with the new max5 g2/motor combo, but it's a few millimeters too long.
@@ChrisHarmon1 Yep that's exactly what we've experienced too even with no load on the motor It takes like a half a second to ramp up. Depending on your bashing style it might not be a big deal but I find it really annoying
Me too only thing is I lose durability with g2 lineups. The micro wires inside the cable , treat cable well alot going on in there . My g1 I’ve gotten years and never burned one up
Yeah I've seen more complaints about the G2 ESCs than the G1 systems. I've had more weird problems with them myself but nothing that I can actually single out.

@@DoRC ok , thanks . I ll start with the 15t they included and go from there . I’ve read 17t - 20t something people are using . I ll have to experience the journey this week . I just cleaned it up , removed the motor, esc and plate ( and cleaned some more 😊) . I Dremel drum sanded the little edge stop flush just in case the esc doesn’t sit nice , it will now for sure . It’s been running great so I was going to leave it alone and then thought I might as well go full out on the paired esc and motor since it has had good reviews is mostly all I need . If I run a fan into the receiver do you know which slot the fan wire will go to ? There’s 2/4 open slots that say “aux” and “battery” on the arrma 6s receiver . I appreciate you taking the time to help me .
@@DoRC for the time being I’ve modified a stock mount to accept a spektrum motor because I don’t want to overpower the rig. I’m thinking I’ll probably go with the max6 g2 when/if I decide to upgrade. Worst case I return/resell it and replace just the esc with the max5 g2 since they use the same motor. Best case I might sell the max5 g2 and put them both on max6. Depending on pricing that is.
@REPORODGE unfortunately as far as I know for the Bluetooth connection you can only use your phone. The newest programmer does have Bluetooth and you might be able to connect to your computer through it and use the Windows link software though I haven't tried that I don't believe.
Wow looks good I'm looking to get the corally asuga xlr roller I'm thinking of putting a max 6 in it but I don't know what to do should I just go for aax 8 or max 6 or should I wait for the new max 6 G2???
I think for the Asuga roller I would recommend the Max 8 or even the 8BL 150. The Asuga isn't super heavy and the max 6 might be overkill for it. That being said there is no kill like overkill :-)
How would this go with an Xmaxx with stock motor? And is this actually better than the regular Max 6 V3? For me, max 5 is not an option due to size, but this seems perfect
Should be good with the stock motor though you'll be underutilizing this ESC quite a bit. I consider this ESC to be pretty superior to the G1 Max 6. It has the same power as the original Max 5. The only real downside is the limitation of only being able to program it through Bluetooth. As long as Bluetooth works that's fine but if it doesn't that might be annoying.

Hey I just installed my Max 6 G2 and put in 20/46 hardened gears (Robinsons and GPM) . Gotta wait 24 hours for the loctite to cure. What punch setting did you use? This goes up to 9 instead of 5 😅 Im Running stock motor too.

I've got an older, non sensored HW 4985/1650kv motor, that I want to put in my kagama, but i think the torox 185 won't handle that big of a 6s motor. Really debating on what 160a esc i should get. Any suggestions?
I'm not sure yet. In general the castle ESCs are better for speed runs because they have fewer safety restrictions on them. I believe the MMX8S will still be more powerful outright but for general bashing this would be a great option and the G2 motors or waterproof which is really nice.

I'm not 100% sure but it's likely that below a certain voltage the batteries are sagging to the point of undervolting so far that the ESC just cuts out altogether. The voltage curve on these batteries is very nonlinear and once they get low enough they will sag a lot under load and that's probably what your experiencing.
@philipbrits2984 Don't be. The Max 8 G2 is no more likely to catch fire than any other ESC. There were a couple of instances of catastrophic failure that were widely talked about but I haven't seen any indication that they are unreliable
@rc_bash_performance I don't know. There have been firmware updates that have made it better but sometimes you'll get what seems like cogging Even when there's no load on the motor and there's been other weirdness reported. Because of this I usually just recommend getting the combo if you're going to get the G2 ESC
It would be an absolute monster in a 1/8 scale buggy. Honestly it might be too much power. The max 8G2 combo would still probably be all the power you could ever need would be cheaper easier to install and a lot more manageable
You can run it without though I have found that at least with the Max 5 it doesn't like running in sensorless mode and has a pretty bad hesitation on initial throttle application.
@@gabeross27 The Max 6 G1 fits in the spot for the stock ESC. I'm not sure if the sensor cable will be in the way on the G2 though. It's pretty tight in there. I'm running an external BEC on mine. The castle WPBEC 2.0 is a great option. Holmes hobbies makes a bypass harness that allows you to power just the servo from the BEC and keep your receiver running off the ESCBEC as the Traxxas receiver does not like voltages over 6 volts

I've killed two max 6's this summer alone and just snapped the motor shaft on my 1650kv motor. I know I push my rigs but for the $ I'm spending I expect a little better quality

Whereas a couple of those ESCs were definitely my fault I could not attribute any specific thing I did to the broken motor shafts or most of the ESCs that have died. Could have been user error but sometimes things just break.
Bluetooth programming... unnecessary imo. Relying on an online app. What if it the bluetooth dies ur esc is pretty much toast. We getting too lazy i guess. Cant use a simple programmer or use a manual and use ur memory for beeps

Interesting. I don't think I've really seen a higher incidence of failure on hobby wing than any other brand. They do have far more ESCs out there than any other brand given all the OEM stuff they do so it might just appear to be more prevalent. Which ESC's specifically have you had fail?

Do you have any issues with hesitation off the line? Myself and others have had problems running that ESC sensorless.

Yeah that's a tough one. The Max 6 is now theoretically as powerful as the Max 5G1. It should be pretty stout.

Im Running stock motor too.
Start it on the default and just see how it goes. The default settings are usually pretty good for getting started

Bluetooth programming... unnecessary imo. Relying on an online app. What if it the bluetooth dies ur esc is pretty much toast. We getting too lazy i guess. Cant use a simple programmer or use a manual and use ur memory for beeps
You know that's an interesting point. I assumed that they would also have a port for a normal programming card but I don't actually see one on there. I hope that's not the case because only having Bluetooth as an option definitely seems like a problem.

Interesting. I don't think I've really seen a higher incidence of failure on hobby wing than any other brand. They do have far more ESCs out there than any other brand given all the OEM stuff they do so it might just appear to be more prevalent. Which ESC's specifically have you had fail?
No you haven't. you've never never seen one hobbywing ESC catch on fire. You're thinking of Traxxas electronics
@@rccrawlingadventuresandmor979 I wouldn't say they never do. I personally had a Max 8 catastrophically fail. It didn't burn to the ground or anything but it did smoke and melt the plastic.
