    On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
    If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

    IRIAF definitely one of the most slept on air forces in history. Ridiculously effective, especially considering they were up against a power that could draw from all the major powers for replacement ordinance and spare parts while Iran had to make every missile and cannon round count.

    I remember training the pilots and ground crews during this time. I found that they were very professional and articulate.
    I'm currently 75 years old and spent 15 years in the AF working on the F4 C,D, and E models from 70 to 85. Loved the F4 and started teaching ground maintenance on them in about 1979. We did a lot of declassify work and such on the aircraft prior to handing them over. Taught their pilots and ground crews what they needed to know to keep the birds flying in good shape. It's been so long ago I can't remember the base I was on at that time, was moved around a lot in 15 years, but think it was at Homestead AFB. in Florida.

      I attended air shows back in the day at which the Thunderbirds and the Blue Angels were flying Phantoms. The noise was half the thrill. When I next saw the Angels flying the follow-on aircraft (the Skyhawk II), i remember being disappointed by the noise, or rather the lack thereof. (Just saw the Thunderbirds over Tacoma two weekends ago. Gotta love the F-16, but, ironically, they also lack the Phantom's thunder.)

      @pyronuke4768 Год назад +7

      The Hellenic (Greek) Air Force has the F-4E AUP where in 1998-2002 they basically took some thirty-nine phantoms, pulled out the radar and computer systems, and replaced them with a legacy hornet's. It gained a HUD, MFD's, IFF, MCC; and it can fire AIM-120B AMRAAM's, AIM-9M sidewinders, Maverick AGM's, HARM's, Paveway and JDAM -series smart bombs, and a variety of other weapons. It's basically an F-18D in an F-4E airframe.
      Sadly they've been phasing them out since 2017, but last time I checked earlier this year they still had about twenty left.

    • @pyronuke4768
      @pyronuke4768 Год назад +1

      The big issue with updating the Phantom though is the designers back in 1960 figured it'd only be relevant for about a decade or two before the Soviets introduced something better, so they didn't really have plans to keep it flying for the next sixty years. Trying to get 60's manufacturing to work with modern stuff is like trying to run DCS's most recent update on Windows 95. You basically have to go and gut the entire airframe and put all new stuff in; which is basically what the Hellenic, Turkish, and German air forces did in the early 2000's as a stopgap solution while they waited to obtain more modern planes like Vipers and Typhoons. If you're a smaller air force with limited funding this option makes sense, but if you're a bigger air force with the R&D available it's just more convenient to build a plane from the ground up that's more in line with what you're looking to use it for.

    This is unrelated to this video but I always found it weird how you were able to make the F-16 work so well but then I went to a dogfight server and it absolutely sucked, never seemed to outrate anything even though I held consistent 400-430, and everyone told me that the F-16 sucks.
    In some recent videos I was able to notice certain things you did differently and applied them yesterday. The result was a series of such prolonged and intense fights against an F/A-18 that it broke my joystick and now I can't capitalize on my newfound insight until the spare part arrives. Still, prior to that I would never have been able to touch that Hornet but now I killed him a few times. Feels good.

    • @GrowlingSidewinder
      @GrowlingSidewinder  Год назад +12

      Ya people love to blame the aircraft and don’t really see themselves as the problem lol. That being said the DCS hornet is over preforming in the 2 circle fight. So also keep that in mind. When fighting the hornet IF u can stay locked in at 430 knots you might beat him based only on pilot skill. Hopefully ED can address/fix the hornet 2 circle performance at some point.

    The F-4 was a jet that was made to be an all weather intercepter, and became a fighter, a bomber, a spy plane, acrobatics demonstrator, and can SEAD. A jack of all trades if I ever saw one. The opening years of the Vietnam War showed how important Top Gun and Red Flag were to train F-4 crews on how to play to its strengths, and exploit its enemy's weaknesses. Not to mention it had the only supersonic gun kill ever recorded, and flew as a Blue Angel, and a Thunderbird. Plus its just mean looking. To say that I am excited for the Heatblur F-4 would be an understatement lol. Until then the F-4 mod, although basic, is very well done.

    I’m not seeing any updates from the minidocs channel is that still a thing. I’ll be honest I don’t go looking for that channel but I do watch the videos from there when they show up on my feed. I am subscribed to it. Keep up the good work.
    (Edit) as soon as I posted this comment you mention minidocs in this video. Lesson learned I’ll hold my questions to the end of the presentation. 😂

    I worked on F4s in the Marine corps in the 80s. They where beasts. We had some awesome pilots. VMFA 112. I love your laugh after a kill.

    Speaking of Iran, their post-war comeback continues to shock me!! After the Iran-Iraq war, it seems that Iran understood the necessity of industrial and technological capabilities and now domestically produces just about everything. They are even building submarines for the Iranian navy!! What really surprised me recently, was learning that Iran was making a native stealth fighter!!! As of this year, however, they appear to have given up on the idea of putting a pilot in it and are switching the stealth fighter program into a stealth drone program instead. I'd be VERY interested to see an Iranian Stealth Drone.

    F-4 Phantom. A very American concept that even a brick with wings can fly if it has big engines. Love it!

    The Phantom has such an iconic silhouette. America's proof to the world that if you put a big enough engine on a brick it can fly.
