For all those asking why the bombers didn't shoot back. No, I did not shoot friendlies and no, I don't know why they didn't shoot back :D The mission was one of the instant action scenarios for the Fw 190 on the caucasus map, nothing out of the ordinary just one of my early test flights. No idea if the bombers are set to have no armament or if it was simply bugged. Their spitfire escorts could fight back, so you pretty much know as much as I do. *EDIT:* Apparently they only had a top gunner and since I was mostly below them, they had no chance of shooting back.
@@tomterific390 Well, there should also be a gunner in a hatch below the tail, below the top turret. Also, there were a couple of times where I was slightly above some planes, so I'd expect them to fire at me then. 🤔

It was very common for tails to be shot 2-3 times and shearing off due to stress loads from flight and a weakened airframe. Just look up the survivor ship bias
@@gavinhopkins9948 Very interesting! It looks absolutely crazy that the plane can be essentially shot in half so easily. But yet again, you're right... the Fw 190 here in the video has 4 x 20mm HE(M) cannons (an 2 .50 cals), so that's an incredible amount of firepower.
@@gavinhopkins9948 I seriously doubt there is any reliable source that could support that claim of it to be "very common for tails to be sheering off after being shot 2-3 times". The USAF had to put some serious effort into merely estimating which parts of a bomber should be strengthend simply by evaluating the damage on bombers that made it home but you wont find any reliable numbers for claims as how hard or easy it was to rip off tails. While 20mm Minengeschosse were extremely devastating hardly anyone can really tell how many hits it took for a tail to rip off or how likely that occurance was in the first place. One might think that the stress on the tail after some holes creating structural damage might lead to it ripping off instantly but there are pictures of a B-17 flying home with 3/4th of its tail section being separated and the tail still held onto the fuselage. And that was after a ram that almost cut the plane in two. Also judging by german gun cameras you will see a lot of bombers taking an enormeous amount of damage and still continuing to fly.

It had a different design and was much smaller than a b17, so don't compare the two for airworthiness with battle damage. 20mm holes are going to hurt a lot more for a smaller airframe and induce a larger stress load
I havent played this game buuut, judging from the lack of return Fire and english radio chatter i'd say this guy is actually flying a fw in us air force markings and shooting down own guys, for the fun of it i guess

Maybe the one you watch was video recording taken where u.s pilots shooting at german rookie pilots near the end off war, not the Aces... you need to remember most german fighter and bomber pilots has been fighting in air war since ww1 all the way to spanish civil wars and the early wars with britain and soviet union long before usaaf join the air war in europe. And All The german aces like Gen.Adolf Galland,H.J.Marseille, Rudolf Hess,M Whittman, to name a few can fly around u.s fighters and bombers and shot them down easy peasy.. Even u s legendary P51 pilot Ace Col Bud. Anderson respected and never underestimated any german pilot he encountered in the air as he said in his interview and i Quote: "YOU HAVE TO RESPECT AND TREATED EVERY GERMAN PLANE WITH SWASTIKAS AS "THE RED BARON" BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNEW WHO WAS IN THE COCKPIT"
The A-20 was a light bomber with only a dorsal turret. Attacking them from behind and below, they are defenceless. The real issue is that they just sat there. In real life the A-20 was known to be very maneuverable, pilots saying you could fly it like a fighter aircraft.
Il2 has much better damage model imo. Especially for flying circus /the ww1 planes. Had no idea I shot my first aircraft down in flying circus until I saw all the pieces floating in the air.

I started on GTA Online of all places, then moved to War Thunder but quit when Ukraine was attacked (out of protest since Gaijin, WT’s developer, made a lot of pro-Russian gestures). But I missed flying so I built a pc and joined DCS. I fly with the VKB WW2 throttle and the Gladiator NXT EVO with the KG13 stick. I’m getting a set of Slaw rudder pedals which are designed based on the Bf 109 and Fw 190. I really want to learn to be a great pilot, but right now I can take off, land and shoot down target planes. I have a long way to go to fly in real combat.
Thanks! Pretty much the same for me, also started with WT and then went to DCS. After playing DCS for a while I also did a signficant upgrade to my PC and got me some joysticks and gear lol. The learning curve is absolutely ginormous, but that's also what makes it a lot more fun to be honest. I dropped the 190 for now in favor of the 109 and it's a lot of fun. However, I also still have a lot to learn. Especially the spotting in general and not losing the bandit in a dogfight are the hardest parts for me.
@@Oliver-m8i I’ve heard the “they’ve got offices in Cypress”, or “they didn’t personally sign off on the “large bore mayhem’ ads, that was a separate company”, etc. The Snail is Russian. Everyone knows that. Even the in-game slogans (which is supposed to ban any reference to historical leaders or political ideology) has a “For Stalin!” livery available for planes. Of course it’s written in Russian of course. And the vehicle and weaponry stats are ridiculously set in favor of the Soviets at the expense of their historical opponents - particularly Germany.

A-20G's had a top rear turret but no tail gun position. And approaching from below, those top turrets can't bring their guns to bear.

WT is just the door to DCS. The thing I love most about DCS is that there are no unlock mechanics and no grind. Just fun and a hole in your wallet.🤣

Apparently the A-20G does not have any gunners facing the rear and slightly down, only a top turret. Also see the pinned comment.
