The T14 breaking down in the Red Square during May Day rehearsal, their inability to make the 57 actually functional, and now this joke of a thing which looks like a wish version of the X32 which is even funnier because they are copying a western design that lost its contract bid to the F35. @TheOfficial007 that's why it would be interesting to go up against the Black Widow. To see if it doesn't get tracked like the Raptor. 23 was stealthier and faster, just wasn't as quite as maneuverable. In the big picture the industry balance at the time for fighters leaned towards Mc/Boeing and NG so I imagine the thought was to throw LM a bone.

DCS is modeled based on the unclassified numbers. Historically, Russia tends to overstate their capabilities, and the US tends to understate them. One thing I keep thinking about though... You know how beefy the radar is on an F-15, where it can lock you, your jet, and the hotdog you have in your stomach? When they ran a 5v1 exercise against the F-22, none of the F-15's even got radar contact, let alone lock or visual.

Most likely the Checkmate can see the radar return from his radar. Also, the F-22 isn't perfectly stealth, as it can be seen by various radar types (seen, but not 'locked' per se). Also, the missile will pitbull when in range with it's own tracker/seeker. It's less of a binary question and more probability based.

@@GrowlingSidewinder Correct stealth doesn't make you invisible to detection. It reduces the possibility of detection and more so reduces the ability to be tracked and locked on by Radar.
The unclassified RCS of an F-22 puts it about the same RCS as a bumblebee. You aren't tracking and locking on to a bumblebee from 70 miles out in a fighter jet, when most more powerful ground based Radar can barely detect it, let alone track it. More likely, you aren't going to detect it either (realize that it's bogie) from that distance from a fighter jet without also picking up other signatures from environmental factors or biologics.

A little humility and admittance that we don't KNOW this or that and that we THINK we have seen evidence to support this theory or that theory is a good thing. But statements like "Land based VHF radars can detect stealth, without targeting" said in such a matter of fact way are kind of nonsensical.
