The April 1981 Iranian Mission to attack the Iraqi Air Bases (H-3) required the F-4 Phantoms to fly the entire 1800 mile mission below 300', this included 4 Air-to-Air Refuelings (at less than 300')!
Pretty amazing, I just can't imagine an F-4 Strike Force all refueling below 300 feet!

My dad once had an engine 1 fire complete failure or engine 2 on approach with the RF-4C, he lost all hydraulic and movement of the aircraft pitch and roll while the aircraft was having a hard time stay up on air due to the engine failure and low speed, he landed that plane using manual trimming. They came very close to losing their lives and ditching the aircraft. However, my dad doesn't give up easily

In 1984, an F-4 (actually RF-4C) smashed into the side of Inadu Knob in the Great Smoky Mountains, just down the hillside from the Appalachian Trail. I grew up with F-4 C/D's and RF-4C's (1974 - 1981) my Dad was Avionic Maintanence with the 18th TFW at Kadena AFB Okinawa Japan. While we were there I fell in love with one specific F-4D. As a kid I got to play Fighter Pilot in the Front Seat and Wiso in the Back seat but what made me fall in love with this specific F-4D was the Six (6) Red Stars she had on her Port Intake. Tail Code ZZ AF 67 - 463 (44th FS). The Aircraft that Steve Richie got his 3rd, 4th and 5th Kills in and Chuck Debelvieue got his 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th KIlls in. The f-1 could easily turn inside the phantom circle to go tail on. This was probably necessary as the f-1 was at that time only equipped with AIM-9 P's for air defence.

i wish i coud like it 10 times more; because it is our history tha we are really proud of; our pilots were and still are gods in their job.
legends re to be told from our history, from the sky to the land and water.
we are so much proud of our legends, martyrs and the "General Q. S"

Phantom on the deck! Love it. Do you have a stereo image in your setup for depth perception? I was sure you were going to eat a tree. Suggestion for Heatblur: pilot option: grinning skull, with or without sunglasses.

Do they have the RF-4C? If so, try some recon missions! You still have a target to "hit", but you don't have any weapons other than some cameras! I worked on the RF-4C when I was stationed at RAF Alconbury in the mid-80s and our crews flew some crazy missions getting up close and personal photos of potential targets!!

I grew up fairly close to Alconbury. I used to see your RF-4Cs all the time. Really miss them.

Big thank you for this video GS! I look at the work of air defense and don’t understand what’s the point of launching missiles if they immediately stick into the ground? After all, the operator must understand that if the target flies at a minimum altitude, the missile will be unable to hit it.

I was never a big fan of the Phantom even though my older brother was an avionics tech at 29 Palms back in the 80’s. That said, this model looks really cool. I wonder what my brother would think.

Saw a couple of Mirage F.1's fly over head in March near Luke AFB. They were at the show and have a similar dogtooth on the outer wings like the Phantom. Quieter than the F-35 by comparison!
