The April 1981 Iranian Mission to attack the Iraqi Air Bases (H-3) required the F-4 Phantoms to fly the entire 1800 mile mission below 300', this included 4 Air-to-Air Refuelings (at less than 300')! Pretty amazing, I just can't imagine an F-4 Strike Force all refueling below 300 feet!
Hey mate. For a while there you used to upload the missions you have been doing on the channel. If you can bring back this tradition I would appreciate it very much. It’s great watching you do it, learning from it and then attempting to do it myself
Many younger people might find it hard to believe, when I was attending Air Force Telephone Maint ( 362X4) tech school, Nov. 72-May 73. We had Iranians in my class. I also remember seeing Iranian Pilots hanging out with their Ford convertible.
During my 20 year Army National Guard experience, I went to schools with Columbians, Thai, Jordanian and even Canadian students! The Jordanians were "auditing" the artillery Officer Basic Course at Ft Sill, they really liked ladie's night at one of the Lawton clubs.
I miss talking to my old neighbor. He was an F4 backseater in the USAF during Vietnam. So many stories from that guy. Went into assisted living in Arizona earlier this year. Those guys are going away, tough as they are. Get their stories while you can.
With regards to it being a flying brick, in the words of Boris the Blade from Snatch - "Heavy is good, heavy is reliable. If it doesn't work, you can hit him with it" It probably handled so well at low altitude because it was heavy!
The Rhino/Double-Ugly/Lead Sled, despite its naysayers, is a great aircraft. If there ever was an aircraft that could be called "masculine", the F-4 would be at the top of any list.
My dad once had an engine 1 fire complete failure or engine 2 on approach with the RF-4C, he lost all hydraulic and movement of the aircraft pitch and roll while the aircraft was having a hard time stay up on air due to the engine failure and low speed, he landed that plane using manual trimming. They came very close to losing their lives and ditching the aircraft. However, my dad doesn't give up easily
Hello @RAVIOLIdS, do you know where your dad flew the RF4C? I worked on them for a little while at Shaw AFB SC in 1982 while we were waiting to transition to F16s. 363rd, Wing, 17th TRS/TFS White owls.
@@dannypattieovercash8327I’m guessing you’re aware of the RF-4C from Shaw that crashed into the Smokies. I’ve been to that crash site back in the late 90s/early 2000s. Lots of twisted metal scattered all over the place.
My dad has a piece of a crashed F-4 in his workshop. In 1984, an F-4 (actually RF-4C) smashed into the side of Inadu Knob in the Great Smoky Mountains, just down the hillside from the Appalachian Trail. There are thousands of pieces of the jet scattered all over the hillside if you can find the site. We found it in 2000 or so.
I grew up with F-4 C/D's and RF-4C's (1974 - 1981) my Dad was Avionic Maintanence with the 18th TFW at Kadena AFB Okinawa Japan. While we were there I fell in love with one specific F-4D. As a kid I got to play Fighter Pilot in the Front Seat and Wiso in the Back seat but what made me fall in love with this specific F-4D was the Six (6) Red Stars she had on her Port Intake. Tail Code ZZ AF 67 - 463 (44th FS). The Aircraft that Steve Richie got his 3rd, 4th and 5th Kills in and Chuck Debelvieue got his 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th KIlls in. While the Phantom and Habu will always be my favorite types of aircraft, 463 will forever be my Favorite Phantom
God I love the F4. My dad used to work on them and he rode in the back seat a few times. But the F14 is still my favorite overall though. I remember going to the Air national guard to watch them fly away to be retired. Even though I was only 6 years old.
The company my dad flies for had some F 4s up until recently I believe... his coworkers flew them. Such pretty aircraft, I remember seeing them take off a few years back at Nellis. My dad also trained (flew against) Japanese pilots a few years back when they had Phantoms. Such a cool aircraft!
You can jettison the rocket pods without tossing the MER (which has a negligible drag count). The Iranians had only a limited supply of ejector racks, and wouldn't appreciate dumping them in the desert.
I was a crew chief [n the F4s ,Ds and Es, for 6 years. I got to go up once in one overseas. I never felt more proud when I launched my birds for missions. They took a beating at times but they would hold together.
My old man joined the air force back in the mid 70s at Grissom Air Force Base here in northern Indiana. He was training to be a air traffic controller but still went up in alot of different aircraft. He always said the only aircraft he never got the chance to go up in was the F4. I would love to go up in something faster than the Cessna i went up in out in oregon at the Mcminnville airport thats across the road from the Evergreen Air Museum where the "Spruce Goose" is stored. Which is where i got a once in a lifetime special tour of the cockpit in which only presidents and astronauts was allowed to go. Quite the expirence!
Please do more with the F4 phantom 2, it's my favourite jet fighter and I would love to see this thing in more dogfights. Love the videos, keep up the good work.
F4 has always been my favorite... its like a pit bull mated with a great white shark, and their brood mated with a super saber jet... and then proceeded to main line massive steroids

In my very young days I lived in Greece opposite a major air base. They often held air defence drills circa early 1980s. I recall seeing dogfights between greek phantoms and mirage f-1s. The f-1 could easily turn inside the phantom circle to go tail on. This was probably necessary as the f-1 was at that time only equipped with AIM-9 P's for air defence.
Looks like HB has hit it out the ball park again, with another fantastically detailed module. The Phantom Ii is simply looking amazing and a must-have in you DCS hanger ❤

That's exactly what Abbas Doran did with his Phantom, in his last mission when his bird was wounded he literally hit them with them it.
Finally, surface to surface missiles.
I saw that. I was thinking the Commander's report would be along the lines of "Oopsie." 🤣
I thought Tomahawks were surface to surface because the sea is a surface
@@corwintipper7317 Can't argue with that. Ground to ground missile then.
Ballistic missiles have been surface to surface far longer than they ever were surface to air.
S-400s are able to do surface to surface strikes.

Amazing performance for an aircraft that was designed in the 1950's
I've heard people say the F-4 is an ugly aircraft. I think it looks bad ass and dangerous.
They are obviously blind. She's gorgeous....
