No Buy Year - One Year On. What Changed? What Happened Next & Mindset Shifts

- So many of you watched my No Buy Year Video and I was so unbelievably flattered that it now has over 500,000 views, it genuinely blows my mind! To mark a year since uploading, I wanted to create this second related video sharing what changed, what happened next and what permanent mindset changes have come about a year since completing the no buy.
If you are looking to do a no buy year, or a smaller goal of a no buy month or a no spend month, be sure to check out my other videos as you may find tips and insights that might help you. Doing a no buy challenge or a no spend challenge isn't easy, and I don't recommend as a permanent lifestyle, but it certainly has its benefits.
Over the last few years, I've come to the realisation that whilst a certain level of material things do add to your life, more stuff will not necessarily make you happier. This realisation hit me when I looked around my home that was filled with stuff (so much so I felt I needed a bigger house) and couldn't say I was particularly happier than when I lived in Spain (in 2008) when everything I had with me fit in one large drawer and a very small wardrobe.
These days I prefer to adopt a buy less, buy better approach, with a focus on quality over quantity, removing the clutter, and utilising my money in the best way possible.

Thanks Kirsty for another great vid! I’ve been on a no buy for 69 days now. You were my first inspiration and I can honestly say you’ve changed my life! I love that you are so honest and clear in your videos. I just love watching as it really helps keep me going. I just paid off all of my credit cards and I can honestly say you have had a huge part in that! Sending you lots of gratitude & love xx
Oh Louise that is absolutely amazing! Thank you so much for sharing and for all your sweet comments! xx
Waiting for what you really really want..not settling until you find what you really really want is such a key!
Agree! Applies to many things in life too.
I promise this is my last no buy year related video for a while! Thank you so much for all your wonderful support on my last video, I appreciate all your comments so much!
With the cost of living rising dramatically and inflation reaching crazy levels, I think that a lot more people will be considering doing no-buy months or even years. Love this video and perspective!
I agree Cherie, it’s not looking great right now in that regard and a no buy may be a necessity rather than a money saving challenge
I've been doing it for 36 yrs of my life. I live in poverty and to see people acting like this who have money is SICKENING
I am here for any video you make on NO Buy. There are not boring and if you only reach and help one person you have done an amazing job, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Aww thanks Gloria! Xx
i have doing it for 2 years now. I have not buying things that I liked. I'm buying what I NEED.And I realized that we don't need a lot of stuff.🤗
I totally relate. It’s interesting over time how much you realise we don’t need anywhere near as much as we sometimes think.
Loved this video! Thank you for sharing this ❤️
Really pleased you enjoyed it Sarah, thanks so much for watching x
You are such a valuable inspiration 💖
Ahhh you are too kind Cheryl 😘
This was a great follow up!
Thanks Lisa 😘
I love you! 🧡🧡
Ever since I stumbled upon your No Buy Challenge video a few months back. Yesterday, I decided to challenge myself to the no-buy challenge myself with very few limitations on Art Supplies and food improv coaching. So far one week is doing pretty well. Thanks for doing this and to motivate me. My goal by the end of this is to get my own apartment by next summer. Thanks for the motivation, Kristy. One week in and so far so good. This might get me behind on playing the latest games for this year and beginning next year but I'll let it be to reach my goal.
Wishing you good luck with it! Getting your own apartment is an amazing goal to reach for! Xx
Thank you Kirsty💕
All the tempting emails have been unsubscribed
And I’ve been trying really hard to not impulse buy
I’ve even left things in my basket twice and the next
Day,realised I didn’t want them after all!.,
So I’m getting there very slowly😊
Congratulations on your new home 🤗
That sounds like amazing progress Jane! Xx
impulse buying and buying lower quality items that had to be replace sooner was something I had to change. Great video
Thanks so much for watching! Yes often quality items can work out cheaper in the long run, even though the upfront cost may be more.
Just stumbled onto your channel & love it! I'd love to see a tour of your home. As a northwest American (Idaho, close to the Canadian border) we just don't have great old victorian era homes. You're the same age as my children and an absolute joy to listen to 🙂
Awww so pleased to hear that Susan! I probably will do one eventually, or show bits and bobs. I know it might seem like an odd thing to say as a RUclipsr but I’m still deciding what things I want to share online and what bits I want to keep to myself if that makes sense. Thank you for your lovely comments! X
@@KirstyKirby I completely understand that, setting boundaries for peace of mind and safety is a must.
I’ve always found making do with an item cost more in the long term as I would invariably end up buying what I originally wanted as well as the cheaper item
Absolutely. Exactly what I was trying to get across here 😊 x
TK Maxx is great for knives, chef's type. Friend with huge feet goes there, so all the size 14s are together, instead of hunting through the whole shop to find the three pairs in store
I remember when we first got married and I moved out of home for the first time and yes suddenly realising omg i need to be responsible LOL We also had a lot of people say 'oh just get this you can always replace it later' ...
i started saving to buy a house when i was 18. I'm now 50 and it's further away than it was then, because i was told to my face multiple times: you don't earn enough to be given a mortgage, even one for fifty pence, your decades of never paying the rent late count for nothing.... i basically spent my life paying other people's buy-to-let mortgages. PS it's not them that make houses expensive, it's really stupid the politics in this country that make always raising house prices is a priority, which locks up money and starves the economy
❤️
😘
No buy year day 7. Changing my life entirely. I’ve spent the last two decades trying to buy my way into happiness, to prove I was successful, to show that “I had made it”. What a scam. Have been in debt continually. I would max out the cards. Pay them off. Rinse & repeat. I’m getting out of debt permanently. Changing my life. Cancelled Instagram.
Good Luck! You are absolutely right - the whole 'things to impress others' really can be quite toxic and very costly, and yet I think for a lot of society, it's the norm. I wish you the absolute best, getting out of debt is an amazing goal.
