TL;DR: It's not bannable, the reason the process is long is because the game assumes you're on Windows which doesnt run the same file types as the steam deck so you need to do some working around to run the game which still uses the official launcher.
Details:
to everyone in the comments: this is NOT BANNABLE. It uses the official launcher with no tweaks to the game itself. The reason it's such a tedious process is because steam deck runs on linux which doesnt run EXE files by itself. You either need wine or proton (proton being the program that steam uses when you run games through it) The game also creates a fake C drive (which is what windows uses) and the drive is located in the compact data folder which means you will have to locate it to find the game files and, in turn, the launcher.

@@ZhakOfAllTrades So uhh, quick question lol. After going to game mode to launch today, the launcher.exe didn't work so I tried to find it in desktop mode. It's nowhere to be found and seems to just not exist lol. Not the end of the world since I can launch the .exe for genshin but I'm not sure what will happen when it comes time to update the game. Any clue where the launcher went?
Thank you!!! I haven't been trying to get this game up and running on my new Steam deck for hours 😅 I originally played it on my ipad with a PS controller. The bit at the end of changing the buttons to use as mouse was what did it for me. I was finally able to access the controller menu!
I had to remap the buttons though, since I'd already changed my Steam deck system buttons to mimic Nintendo Switch 😂

Thank you. I won't be doing this any time soon (mainly because I really don't like using a controller if I don't have to and my Steam Deck is mostly a backup should my laptop finally fail and I need to start saving for a new system), but it's very nice to know the option's been tested.

I installed it the same way and it worked out perfectly. I have also heard the whole you need to reduce stuff. To make run good. Actually i am mostly medium and with all effect besides motion blur which i hate. I was experiencing slow downs till i set the deck to 40fps then smoothed out at a comfortable 64c.

I had to modify one step. Removing the installer.exe from Steam also deleted the folder in steamapps/compatdata. I had to make a copy of the directory before removing that entry from Steam.

I've been experimenting with either a Low graphics + 45 hz refresh + 45 fps cap setup or a Lowest graphics + 60hz refresh + 60 fps cap setup. The first one is super stable and smooth, which is nice. The second one definitely feels great when things are running at 60 fps, but stutters when the fps drops in crowded areas.
Wondering what you ultimately went with for your setup.

I already watched your other video on the 6 must know Steam Deck hacks and already have all those plugins installed, plus I have Cryobyte33's Utility app. However, you don't mention in that video on what Genshin settings you are using, mind sharing? I'm using mostly medium settings with a few turned off like v-sync and have 40hz FPS lock. Game runs a bit better, but could be even better I think. Definitely ain't gettin 60 fps consistently if I left 40Hz mode off, too many frame dips and stutter.
Hi! I have most things on medium, try running fsr2 it helps a lot. Also ive set my cpu to 2.8 which keeps it cool. Honestly id rather lock at 40 cause its just way smoother and preserves battery! This game is sooo mich heavier than it used to be a year ago... Hard to believe it even, i was running it on a 2011ROG laptop with 60fps not a single stutter. Right now same machine barely stays at 40
To get the folder in compatdata to appear I just clicked RUN NOW when installing the launcher and it appeared just fine

Hi! I followed your guide and it's a blessing! Finally got to experience the game while just chilling comfortably in bed, one of the reasons i got my deck in tbe furst place.
I cant seem to update the launcher, tho. It still shows the "not enough space" error message. What should i do?
Thanks! The launcher update doesent seems to break the game you can still update the game and play it. I will investigate thebissue but its probably the proton layer. What comes to mind it downloading the launcher again, installing it and copying the files to this current launcher, but thats a hassle and I wouldn't really bother unless I cant play.

When you format an sd card for the first time in your deck settings a folder called "Lost+found" will be created, thats how you can recognize the drive later.

Hi, I've seen this issue reported once or twice. No idea whats causing it, try running itnwith different proton layers to see if it changes anything. Also try from desktop mode and check your audio settings there.

You have to wait a week after the patch. It seems to work after a week from the update.

You are going to be using the Internal connection so other than having a high ping, it should not affect it. Make sure to enable the dynamic resolution in remote play settings.

Did you save it in program files or program file x86? Because you said "program files" but the video shows you saving it in x86. Is there a difference?

Star Rail already tested. As of right now it sadly doesent work natively, with that said there is another way to play it on the deck, gonna make a video about it real soon.

Remember that folder we had to find to add the launcher to steam as a non-steam game? There will be another one that consists of the actual game files (should be named genshin impact game or something) simply delete them both and you are done.
I am still in the midst of installing the game but I saw some questions about installing different voice over languages and how the pop up saying "not enough storage" comes up. Is there a way to get past that?

Same here, folder literaly disappeared in front of my eyes.
Guess don't remove it from steam, just hide it - that didn't remove the folder and this way you wont have both install and launcher showing up in the library

But now i got another problem: The game sometimes has a bit of fps stuttering. I set everything to lowest, but the resolution scaling to 1.0, so it still looks sharp and clean while i have kinda stable fps.
Maybe i have to try a new runner version to see if the performance can benefit from this change.
If you got any other ideas to gain some performance, pls let me know.
So far i tried to manually set gpu clock and the used cores and got the best performance results while using 1600mhz gpu clock speed and 8 cores, but i don't know if 1600mhz all the time could damage the steam deck on the long run...?

Used to be the case before the latest Proton Update 8.0.1 And it is not quite the anti-cheat its more complicated than that, some games using the same anti-cheat systems do work, but yeah in general that WAS the issue

I am 100% sure this wont get you banned!
Windows on an SD is a double edged sword cause it writes so often on the sd card you never know if its going to die after a week or a few months, but it will die eventually as they are not made to run an operating system, that writes and deletes temp files all the time.
Mine died in two weeks and it was a good SD from Samsung. Never installed windows on an SD after.
Hi will this method have risk of getting banned ? As per some research i found out that people are only able to play GI because anti-cheat was removed temporarily from game but new 3.7 v have them and people cant play game
This cannot get you banned as you are not doing anything that an anticheat perceives as cheating. You are playing the game on an "layer that sinulates windows" (don't quote me on that people that understand proton :D) Regardless as of a few days the game runs again on the steam deck. Enjoy it while it lasts. You can always use my other method and stream it from your pc too!
im stuck on 4:13. i have every folder shown in the video except the genshin impact folder and i've looked everywhere :((
Try again but do not delete the installer from steam after the game installs, leave it there.

Does this method still work to your knowledge? Maybe I’m doing something wrong, but every time I install this game following these steps exactly, everything is fine until I hit “Play” in game mode on the launcher.exe. The steam deck acts like it’s launching the .exe, but fails. When I go back into desktop mode, all of the game files I installed have been deleted and all that’s left on my device is the .exe to install the launcher that I got from Genshin’s site. I’ve tried reinstalling, and no matter where I install (both local SSD or SD card), the game just deletes at the same step.
What version of the game are you running?
Skip the step where you remove the installer from steam, leave it as a non-steam game after installation (you can hide it instead). Some people report this works for them.
i followed your steps but i can't locate the genshin impact folder anywhere. i haven't installed any games at all.... i have proton 8.0-2
Hi, try searching for Launcher.exe in the drive. Make sure you installed the launcher properly. You should be able to run it directly after installation, try that and see if the files pop out. They are somewhere.
You could also use an SD card if you have available, this also makes updating the launcher way easier later.
I got through all the steps but got stuck. When in game, there is no option for me to click on settings in order to change controller settings from “keyboard” to “Controller”.

For some reason my Combatability setting, more specifically the “force use of a specific steam play combatability tool” is greyed out and not allowing me to tick it. help?
Try removing the game from the non-steam games and add it again.

Try pressing the "Steam" button it should enable the touchpad for a few seconds. You can use the time to click what you have to or to change the game settings to controller if you already installed successfully!

When I try to log in, my keyboard doesn't show up to the game, (pressing steam + x button)
So when I close the game, the keyboard is there on desktop layer.
Somehow the keyboard shows up to wrong layer. 🤔

You should start the game in gaming mode instead. Avoid desktop mode unless you want to install, update or adjust something.

Hello! Try starting the game first, use search functiona in desktoo mode to look for launcher.exe
I tried this now for 20 times and im so over it. I do the exact same steps as in the video but the folder dosnt show me in compdata. I searchd thru everything. Any ideas how to get this folder?
Try clicking Run now after thr installer shows up. Also try using search features and search for "Launcher.exe"
You could always install it on an SD card too, which I recommend.

Genshin Patch 3.7 seems to break the compatibility with the Deck. I am investigating.

There is a genshin impact.exe in the game genshin impact folder, can I add it to steam instead of launcher.exe? Is that ok? I want to go directly to the game, not from the Launcher
You can! But it will save you a single click and you will have to add the launcher anyway in order to update the game in the future. I highly recommend adding the launcher instead

@@ZhakOfAllTrades hi, it is easier way, download the launcher installer, then hide, then find the folder launcher.exe, add, add proton compatability, just press next, and next, and play, and set controller back button to "ESC" button to change to controller. it is faster that for me, stable like native! thanks YA!

Hello, you do not have to to pkay the game. It is just some fixes for the fonts of the launcher. I am looking into why and how to fix this

Try restarting your deck and use a searching tool to find the folder. It might not be i. Program files but in program files x86.
You could also search for launcher.exe just make sure you got the correct one cause yoy might find many, depending on how many games that have launchers called the same you got installed.

That is not possible, you are just removing the shortcut. How are you removing the installer?

Sadly no, it doesn't not start directly from the Steam Deck yet, you will have to stream it to the deck from a PC, but you can still play it on the deck. I have a full guide video on the channel!

@@komix0 Sadly not working natively with this method but you can stream it from the pc with my old Genshin Method. I will make a video about it! Not perfect but at least we can play it on the deck!

Unfortunately the launcher.exe doesn't launch with Proton 8.0-2
Stranger I have no issues with the same version. Try running with other proton versions, also try GE.

@@ZhakOfAllTrades I have now tried: Proton Experimental, GE-Proton8-1 and GE-Proton8-7. Neither did work. I click play with the launcher.exe and it spins for a moment then it kills the process and I could hit play again. (I also tried in Desktop and Gaming Mode)
A little late, but I had the same issue, and the problem is that you should not remove the genshin-installer.exe from Steam as the video shows. This removes the folder from /compatdata.
Just reinstall the launcher and proceed as in the video, but without removing anything from your steam library.
