Great video . For some reason not much videos on steam deck tools . I like the hot keys you mentioned . Lease make more steam deck tools tips and maybe what settings you recommend we use .mode certain games or maybe just in general settings .

What I like about Handheld Companion is that it gives you the Quick Settings Menu that you can map to any button and change the settings easily with touch.
handhelf companion is MILES better, not only that it didnt get me banned on EOC anti cheat. I didnt even use power or fan settings but switching to controller during game. Banned. Never again. This doesnt happen with handheld.

I cant get the overlay to work even though I have rivatuner installed. Great video though! Should do a tutorial on the refresh rate settings too. And another video idea would be an all in one “how to make windows feel like steamos”. Just throwing ideas out there for ya :)

EXCELLENT VIDEO!!! This weekend I installed Handheld Companion on my Steam Deck and my GPD Win Max 2. Now I'm seriously considering removing Handheld Companion on my Steam Deck and install Steam Deck Tools instead. Are there any settings for Steam Deck Tools for gyroscope when using emulators and non Steam games?
I've not actually looked into gyro control yet

I just added a cool update to my steamdeck still keeping the steam os but could not get my emulated sd card to work until i found this video man your made my life easier with this thanks man great content.
Handheld companion is trash this was the only way I was able to use the steam controller thank you so much!
This was an amazing guide thank you, although I need to ask, how do you connect a keyboard and mouse to you're steam deck, I for the life of me have tried and it doesn't seem to connect to a Bluetooth keyboard.

Awesome video! Replaced HC and SWICD with the Steam Deck Tools using your tutorial. I'm only having problems making the OSD appear during in-game. Made sure to turn it on through settings, but it still won't pop up...
Did you install and run the rivatuner app too? If it's not running it won't work.
@@scaryifliteral I found the problem. It's specific to Persona 5 in Game Pass. All other games showed the OSD. Thanks again!

The first game I tried this with was Evil Within 2 and I got a 15fps boost using 1600mhz gpu frequency but I think it's because it's a bad port from console to pc. But still that's cool if there's a few like that.

Thank you SO MUCH. My dumb keyboard kept on popping up when I would click X, now it doesn't. If I wasn't able to fix that, I literally wouldn't've been able to play games on windows.

A couple of questions, does this allow you to configure the back pedal buttons for use in non-steam games? Moreover, does this inhibit the function within Steam games and steam controller configuration in any way?

How did you get refresh rate on there?
This is very great application but I often get issues where controls won't work. A restart fixes this but it happens much more often for me than any other application like this
I have SWICD driver installed. Should i uninstall before using Steam Deck Tools?
For some reason after installing this my L and R no longer function as right and left mouse click in either mode
I wish Valve would make a tablet version of the Steam Deck, perhaps with a POGO pin keyboard attachment.

I honestly haven't looked into gyro control yet, but I doubt it.
Is there any way to map the back paddle buttons to mimic the face button for game out of steam? I was wanting to Bing jump and reload to the back buttons when playing games like fortnite or overwatch
If at all any controller doesn't work on steam games, you can go into big picture mode and enable the corresponding controller you are using (if you haven't installed this software in the video) or disable it if it still doesn't work. Example game for this is Forza Horizon 4.
The way to get your controller working is to set up a desktop configuration in steam. You basically have to do it for each game that isn't running through steam. If you add games through steam it's a little easier but it's almost impossible to do that with Game Pass games. A desktop configuration for each Game Pass game you want to play is necessary, unless you install a piece of software that recognizes your steam controller as something it isn't. Steam deck tools is still a great piece of software. It's just not necessary to use your controller on Game Pass games

Does this offer deadzone adjustments? I have the legion go and has massive deadzone problem. Steaminput won't work on some games such ass destiny 2 regardless of adjusting deadzone within the steaminput for that specific game layout. For "Gun" Om steam movement doesn't work for some reason regardless of having the specific game steam input on. Some newer games offer adjustment within them but many do not

Everything works great, except specifically in Skyrim launched via SKSE, my volume buttons dont work at all. Any idea why?
SWICD videos were around before this, I wish you covered the differences and the benefit over SWICD if any. Haven't yet tried either method, but SWICD seems easier to install and also works with PS remote play.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but SWICD only does controls whereas this does a whole bunch more. I also don't own a playstation, so that would not be something I can cover.
@@scaryifliteral I was only thinking of controls as it was the main topic, but you are right, there's all those other features that might make it worth the hassle of installing.

Got my steam deck today and immediately installed Windows 11 after not really liking Steam OS after being used to Win 11 on my ROG Ally....do I need to uninstall SWICD before doing all of this?

Can anyone help. I downloaded the steam deck tools. I run it. And click finish and no prompt screen or Xbox 360 check off. Just completes and that’s all. Why am I not getting the pop up ?
I'm using the OLED and I find this software much better than handheld console... HOWEVER... I keep loosing button input when using Retroarch (main reason I wanted to use windows) and I have to reboot the deck in order for buttons to be recognized again. Honestly I'm a tech guy but I find the Windows 11 on the OLED to be extremely frustrating to work with. If this was my only device then I would muck it out and keep working on it, but its frustrating and just a waste of time. If you want to use Windows then just get the ROG and keep the steamdeck for what it was meant for.

Am I correct that you cannot have combined controller and mouse configs on Windows then? E.g. having a full xbox controller config and trackpad on mouse and gyro? And you also can't bind the back buttons?
Not outside of steam games, not that I know of.

I don't own a Xbox gamepass game. Can you direct me to what opening a game installs? is it the ViGEmBus Driver or more? The computer fully recognizes the SteamD controller as an Xbox controller. Nothing else does. I've followed the video and have no idea what I am missing. Do I need to configure steam in anyway? My goal is for fortnite to recognize the steamdeck.

Oh, question; does this only work on Windows 11, or will it also be fine for Windows 10? I prefer the Win10 layout a bit over 11's so I opted to put 10 on my Steam Deck. I've been using the controls with GlosSI just fine but I'd like to try this as well.
I don't know 100%, but I think it works on 10 as well.
@@scaryifliteral not working for me on windows 10. Installs the tools, but does not give the controller options and when I press the "Steam Controller" icon on the desktop it just gives an error that says "Run many times"

do you know how to make windows goes fullscreen with external monitor? on my 1080 monitor it has some black bar vertically, i can't even change resolution on windows settings

I am playing fifa 23. Somehow the osd is not showing. Anything i can do to make it shows? Playing from steam if it helps (then steam open ea app).

Mine doesnt switch controllers i have to hold start to switch manually. I tried Fortnite and a few others.

One of the biggest problems I have been bumping into on Game pass is that the system is constantly switching between controller and keyboard. I press B and it thinks I'm hitting two different buttons as a controller and keyboard.

No reason it shouldn't work, pretty sure I've seen people do it. My only caution would be I've also heard of people having issues where this was picked up as cheating software on online games.
