In terms of impact, while it is true that Nergal is good, he had less of an impact on the game than the others. He’s awesome and I can tell you that we almost did a top 10 instead so we could talk about him, but before we got Nergal we got Tina and we also got Mythic Loki around that time. Stealing buffs or removing them wasn’t the most Meta shifting development, and even if it was, Nergal wasn’t the first to do it. Winter Edelgard revived what had been a mostly dead offense archetype and made it not only accessible, but so common that you had to start slotting in defense units in the hope that they could survive her. It is true that she has slowed down a step, but current performance isn’t the point of the video.

Personally I'd use Nergal or Celica over marth as the honorable mentions. Giving extra -1 to old units is nice, arena is borderline unplayable because of celica ring and Nergal is very strong in every game mode.
I think it is mainly because like 98% of units want the Marth Ring and they can use it in any team. There are many other ways to remove buffs from enemies or warp, and they are not universally useful effects.

First off all brave units get penalised, but also most meta units have their special cd either at 1 already so it does nothing, or they have some way to get it every combat so it just makes them a little more consistent. Celicas ring isn't just the warping, it's also free damage which IS universally useful, not to mention how very few warping effects allow up to 4 spaces of warping so celicas ring still has benefits on those who already warp.
VLyon the FEdelgard of 2024? that's a strange comparison imo, FEdelgard was much more comparable to EIke since they share the same role: mainly omnitanks in AR-O or annoying damage sponges in AR-D, sure she fell off quicker but her popularity outlasted her meta viability and the same is gonna happen to EIke, unlike VLyon that's just another bonkers but frail nuke. VMyrr should've been an honorable mention at the very least tho, pretty good list regardless.

yeah its weird, Lyon dies to any unit that starts the combat against him, he is nothing like Fallen Edelgard, Emblem Ike is the modern Fallen Edelgard.
Really the thing about Fedel was her mixed phasing, she was exceptional in both phases. Ike is just really bulky but his offense has some weird and funny flaws, while Lyon is defensively nothing special at all but if he attack he’s super evil. I think Fedel during her prime was a bigger problem than Ike is now, just Ike for some reason is just getting more tools while Fedel got crept relatively more quickly I think.
@samkeiser9776 Yeah and it's a bit unfair to say she fell off as soon as she wasn't the strongest tank, when in reality FEdel adapted to be a more mixed phase tank and that gave her even more longevity, I don't think EIke has that same flexibility and as soon IS releases real counters to him, he'll probably drop off the meta just as Brave Ike did, being used as a counter meta pick at most.
My guesses prior to watching the video and by only looking at the title. 1. Buff stealers ( nergal and mythic loki ) 2. Attuned micaiah 3. Emblem Ike 4. Emblem celica 5. Breath of life 4 and laguz friend ( I know it’s not a unit but I see it so often it might as well be )

Ever since B!Lyn there have been scary ranged cavs but the strategy is always wait until the AI overextends and then run up and ORKO them (except in Summoner Duels, so for that mode you may be right. But in Arena he’s nerfed, since cavs have a very hard time on those maps). That would never work with f!Edelgard. You had to know her (1 or 2) weaknesses and build a unit that could counter it. And if you didn’t have that counter ready, she would mow down your entire team. E!Ike is the exact same way. In my experience, only N!Igrene can kill him out of the box consistently. For those of us who don’t have her, we need to come in with a plan, usually involving a blue mage AoE.

Emblem Celica has massively changed AR, both offense and defense. She enables strategies that were pipe dreams before. If you really write her off as being just another warp fiend, then you need to dream bigger. You can also use her ring quite well in arena. Like you say, Emblem Heroes are very F2P friendly. And as much as I love Christmas Edelgard, that unit is just an upgrade on an already existing archetype. E!Celica enables play that wasn't possible before.
Marth is my favourite character, so I’ll always love him and his versions, and while obviously I’ll always have a special place for Caeda, I never expected for one minute to enjoy using her as much as I have done since her release. And she’s only gotten better since Gust and Null C echo! The only other unit that I’ve had such a blast with, has been Nergal. So fun to pass out his bonus to the team. Other units I’ve loved since CYL7 have been Brave Soren, Ascended Merric, and obviously Emblem Ike but that’s a boring pick lol
I agree with the list (although I might have replaced WEdelgard with BSharena, but I understand why you kept her instead). Two things though: DAltina also has scowl and EIke has no pierceable DR.

Not a top 5 character but Bridal Embla is my favorite :p I need to stop using Emblem Ike though I’m new and he wins so many match ups it’s hard to learn anything other than “just use Ike”. When you’re trying to learn the basics abilities and what they do in practice.
It’s not about the current strength, it’s more about the meta impact the units had. For sure Nergal is strong and you have to plan for his presence on a team, but Edelgard reinvented Galeforcing in a super accessible way.
Look at previously bad units like legendary female corrin and legendary seliph climb their way a ladder to be compared to the Omni tank of the game shows they had justice done to them
While I don’t think E!Celica is top 5 unit wise (def top 10), she prolly should be top 5 in general with her ring. Arena is becoming annoying with her ring effect, she is annoying with warp in AR-D and SD becomes more of a nuisance in terms of planning

Im tired beyond exhaustion of seeing Ike everywhere. He is a pest thats ruining the game for me, not because I cant beat him (got -0 defense this week) but because it is so freaking boring when every-single-match is a copy paste of the previous one.
Are you EVER going to create a video to tell us HOW to counter Ike instead of saying “counter him”? Because despite multiple meta reports, and his banner debut, you have NEVER, not ONCE, given us a solid explanation on how to take him down. Instead you just say “I know it SEEMS impossible to take him down, but he can be”, and you never elaborate. Honestly I’d argue he’s far worse than Valentine Lyon because at the BARE minimum you could at least kill Valentine Lyon. For Emblem ike, you have to stack so much damage that you either have to run AoE and PRAY that the Ike player doesn’t bring Godot (in which you’re screwed because your AoE damage goes to 0), run burn damage and hope the Ike player doesn’t run breath of life 4 (in which you get 0 burn damage and lose), or you just give up. I need you to properly explain in detail a 100% consistent method of taking on Emblem Ike that has BoL 4 support (in his C), Gotoh Support, stone terrain, and emblem Celica ring. And please try to make it as free to play as possible.
You’re reading the tiering wrong. Attuned Peony isn’t Tier Zero as a unit. She’s Tier Zero as a fodder factory. There is an ungodly amount of fodder you can give to her as a melee unit, and fliers have a TON of new great C skills that both will and have been phenominal. Even her Echo skill is amazing, as literally every single unit in the game besides cavalry and armors can not only learn it, but use it well. There’s better Echo skills, of course, but most of them are far more limited in who would actually want it. Echo skills like Null-C is better… but the only units who want Null-C are tanks. In the same vein, Far Trace is excellent… but only ranged fliers and cavs can even equip it (and that’s ignoring the amount of units who already have canto innately)

Just a heads up, magical units don't have access to Prime skills and Emblem Ike has no piercable DR in his kit, all coming from Flat DR and Special DR

You’re reading the tiering wrong. Attuned Peony isn’t Tier Zero as a unit. She’s Tier Zero as a fodder factory. There is an ungodly amount of fodder you can give to her as a melee unit, and fliers have a TON of new great C skills that both will and have been phenominal. Even her Echo skill is amazing, as literally every single unit in the game besides cavalry and armors can not only learn it, but use it well. There’s better Echo skills, of course, but most of them are far more limited in who would actually want it. Echo skills like Null-C is better… but the only units who want Null-C are tanks. In the same vein, Far Trace is excellent… but only ranged fliers and cavs can even equip it (and that’s ignoring the amount of units who already have canto innately)
