YOU ARE THE MAN! I was ready to call a tow truck. Picked up the bushing for $13.00 crawled under inserted the bushing …done! At 68 it took me longer to get out from under my Yukon. Thanks again big help.
Thanks for the video! I drive 28 miles to work. Mine broke at a gas station a mile from my site. Got a ride , saw your video, called a dealer. He said they only sell the entire cable. Seeen you had mentioned the part #. Went to O'reileys, struggled for 3 1/2 hours in the gas station parking lot. Zip tied it, got it to my site. Had to shave down the bushing to get it in. I used my grinder.. You saved me a tow bill, and who knows what a shop would have charged. THANKS!!!!
Thank you!!!! I was I. Pick up line at kids school when this happened!!! Avoided disaster and complete embarrassment by minutes thanks to your video!!!! Thank you!!!!
Mine just stop shifting a couple days ago and this video help me get the truck back and running. I was about to call a tow truck but I was like let me RUclips it first before I do that and luckily this person had made this video
@@mcrum4421 quick question, did not find a good vid how to take out the old one. mines worn. brought my van in for a trans fluid change and filter. two days later my cable falls off. mangled mess of zip ties. i think the person i brought it to. i had the trans rebuilt 2.5 years ago and i only have 10k on it. i moved so i brought to a new place and no way have i been riding with those tiny zip ties for over 2 years. they were also rather shiny black. i live in new Hampshire and that's two winters its been thru and those would have been covered in crap not shiny if they been there for years.
Sounds fishy to me. But I don’t want to assume anything. It seems like good help is hard to find anymore. The bushing is plastic so it should come right off with a pair of pliers. Lubing/greasing the new bushing one will make it easier to pop on to the transmission linkage post.
Dude thank you so much 😂 had just gotten to work tonight, and it broke in reverse, so I had to put the parking brake on and had no idea what happened. This helps me have an idea of what to do.
Thanks brother you helped save my life my truck means the world to me so when I ran into this problem I was depressed because I have a low budget and I thought it was my interlock solenoid but then once I replaced it my shifter still wouldn’t work but then I watched your video and BOOM 💥 FIX THANKS AGAIN MAN 💪🏾👍🏾
phew man, my step dads landscaping 2500HD just got stuck in park, I figured it was that too, and pulled out the electrical harness to bypass interlock solenoid and it worked (parts coming in from Amazon as I write this comment). I told him if that doesn't fix our issue it can be some other MUCH more difficult problems or links under the truck or in transmission lol. I know how that feeling is when your first guess isn't it- but this vid shows a nice and easy fix for the second seemingly common problem with transmission shifters in these GMs. Great job!
You are amazing. Just wanted to let you know, I was stuck in the parking lot when this happened, stuck on reverse, with my suburban butt sticking it. I was able to borrow some duct tape, wrap it up and at least get it in drive and get back to a good location. Thank you so much, you saved my night.
Thanks for the video. Minor point, soaking the plastic bushing in very hot water makes it flexible and a lot easier to install. Mine broke last night as I was pulling into parking space at home. Checked YT and yours was one the first video's to come up. Just fixed my Silverado 2500HD
Maaan! This was just what I needed. My Shifter came off while I was out at the store. Your video was the first to come up, and I was able to rig it to make it home. Thanks!
Awesome and very helpful video! I just want you to know that your efforts to help others by sharing your knowledge is extremely appreciated, you are an incredible human!!!
You helped me save my mom! Her Tahoe was stuck in park in front of the hospital she works! If not for your video she would be impeding ambulances and we were able to get in neutral and push to a safe park space where I can fix it tomorrow
This was exactly my problem! I actually checked under the vehicle first and I didn’t have to do the extra work under the steering wheel. Thanks a lot!! Just an added note: I used the clear bushing; it was less struggle to install and it stays on.
Wife’s Tahoe did this this morning found a Dorman bushing at autozone for 8 bucks to replace it was able to pop it on in about 5 mins with out any type of clamp super easy fix thanks for the help
Mannnnn you just don’t know how this video saved the day. It was raining and I was in front of a business.. I got it together and got it back to the house
Thank you so much for this video! Last night I tried to reverse, and the entire great shift just fell. I'm going to get the part and hopefully have it fixed before my husband gets home (he will be both proud and happy that he didn't have to do it haha). Liked and subscribed!
Just had this happen to me today. I ran over a tree branch on the road from hurricane Ivan. I got home and went to put into park and had this problem. LOL, all I could think was oh no big bucks. Thank you for explaining it so well. 2013 Chevy Silverado WT. Dorman part number 14104.
The bushing I used was made by Dorman part number 14055. I bought it at an O’Reilly Auto Parts. It came with two bushings. A clear and a white one. I used the white one. It was a booger to squeeze in. An extra set of hands would of been helpful. Unfortunately my helper hurt her hand in a fireworks accident a few days before I made this video.
Awesome find! How did you go about searching for that particular Dorman part and part number? I'm in dire need of a new gear shift selector bushing for an 06 GMC Savanah and would like to find one asap but not sure how to search Dorman for that exact part(?)
You saved me so much time and money! I am out here with my sheep and my only my mother went to turn on my truck to get more water for the sheep and no shifting at all - if it wasn’t for this video I would have been so much poorer and without a vehicle for however long! Thanks so much 🤍
I almost bought the whole cable until I saw this video. Mine came loose on the bottom half like yours this might save me some time and money thanks dude
It took me a lil more time than it should of for me to put it on. You can hear the night critters getting louder as the video goes along. An extra set of hands would of really been helpful for me
Thanks, brother. I appreciate the information. I have an 05 Tahoe and a 13 Silverado. both of them this happened to, and I've been riding around with a damn rubber band on them. Finally went to my auto parts store got the right piece. I am glad you showed me about the 9-16th socket that made all the difference in the world. Thank you
Thanks for the video! This video helped me through my issue i really appreciate you taking the time out of your day to help regular Joe's get stuff done! Keep making vids!
Excellent presentation and technique on how to fix this problem. The generic replacement part can be challenging when using a Jack and a rack is not available.
Men you literally saved me to loose 10k, i had everything ready to sell my avy and afew hours before the transaction this little part broke up!!!! thanks for the info
Thank you very much! I picked up that same bushing for my 2011 Chevy Express 3500. Definitely aggravating to install. I ran wire ties through it and large spacer before tightening down with C clamp.
I have a 04 Yukon xl I’ve been to Orielly twice to buy it. But it’s too big. I called the dealership to buy it but they want us to to just buy the whole entire cable. Any suggestions?
2009 Silverado? That bushing registers as not the right fit. Can you confirm if you went with this bushing even when the website didn’t register as the right fit? I have a 09 Silverado 1500 and looking for a different bushing and saw this bushing so I’m wondering if this is better for the fit.
I’m concerned the bushing will pop off again. I notice there is a channel cut at the end of the shaft. What do you think about snapping a c- clip retainer on to prevent it from coming off again as many say has happened?
Thank you so much bro This just happened to me I was about to call a tow truck I live in New York I got stuck in Philly That would have been a long tow truck ride a lot of money watch your video went underneath the car found the problem I did that put the car in drive park is slipped out again so what I did I got a piece of electrical wire stripped the plastic off use the bare copper strap that puppy on it twisted it with a wrench
I’m sorry about the late response. My daughter set this channel up for me. She’s way more techy than I. I don’t get on here much. With a little force I was able to push my right back out. It never came back off by itself though. I’ve done others that were better designed.

Everybody is different but the Dorman 14073 bushing kit from the Auto Parts store does work best all you need is a cord or cordless drill, 3/8 drill bit or I’ve found that the 7/16 bit works best and pliers with 5 minutes or less of your time then done! No huge heavy C-Clamp or socket
Use the 14073 bushing for 2005 to 2012 Chevy Silverado. The one it suggest really doesn't work if your having a difficult time putting it in just get a small drill bit and shave each side of the hole and then snap the bushing in.. Shaving the hole makes the job a snap the suggested bushing does not work
@How To With This Dude An actual part number for the bushing in the caption/comments/etc would have been great here (trying to find it locally, having zero luck)... Very helpful nonetheless, thanks for posting (I refuse to spend $500+ to replace the entire cable on an 11 year old vehicle).
