How do you fix this issue if the truck is stuck in reverse when the cable slips off how do you get it back on?
What if the car is on ?!
This video came in clutch. Mine popped off at a Walmart parking lot in Missouri around 11pm and I’m from Texas with no one to call and no mobile shops around. Found this video reconnected it with a certified mechanics zip tie and was back on the road in minutes 🙏🏼
This was a life saver. I thought I was gonna be stuck for hours and paying hundreds of dollars. Found the issue, reconnected it and I'm back on the road. Thanks so much!!
How do y'all always know the exact video I need?😂
+Steve Stamp Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Great video tutorials and thanks for sharing .
Straight up 😂
We were stuck. No experience in this type of problem. Watched this video. Took a ponytail holder and connected the cable to the pin on the transmission. We were back on the road in minutes. Thank you for a clear title of your video so it was easy to find. Praise God. Thank you.
What a fun job! Love that you guys actually work on the cars and aren’t afraid to show others as well. Well done.
You totally saved my life!!! At least I can go home now until I’m ready to fix it. Thank you so much. I wish I could give you 6 million thumbs up.
I want to thank you guys I was broke down 3 hours from home on a Sunday and my shifter was free flowing like the one in the video , I temporarily fixed the problem to get home , thanks again and keep up the good work,
Want to say thank you!Thank You ,your video just saved me and my family including our new born was stuck in front of Walmart in middle of road my wife looked up the problem and on iTunes so thank you so much
You guys are the best. Saved me after my wife’s escalade got stuck half way on the road & half way on the driveway
Thank you , was locked in park with a 10,000 gvw trailer hitched to it. stressing on how to seperate them .After watching your video ,Took a second look and sure enough. Wired it back on .I was ready to call a tow truck.
I literally just now watched this video (12/27/2022) and fixed my Tahoe. You folks are really REALLY awesome. Very clear video, very understandable, very effective. Great job and thank you very much!
Man thank you. This video saved the family trip
This exact situation happened today. Luckily, the cable came off the transmission. I popped it back on and secured it with wire ties.
Thanks so much for this video! I had the exact same problem happen in my 2011 Chevy Express 1500 van, linkage setup exactly the same and the pin holding them together melted right through. Looked like it was disintegrated with battery acid, had a powdery white look to it. My shifter went loose and I was stuck in reverse until I found this and was able to get it parked properly. Thanks again. 👍👍
Thank you for the video. I was able to find the cable end and snap it back on. THANKS AGAIN! SAVED ME FROM HAVING AN EXPENSIVE MECHANICS BILL. I still have to get it fixed but I don't have to worry about the tow truck dragging my truck up onto the ramp while it's in park
Just happened to me today. But I have great local mechanics who came and got it in gear then took it to the shop. No towing fees! I love those guys.
This literally happened to me last night. Thought my transmission failed. Called a tow truck then watched this video. Was able to fix myself thanks to you. Probably saved at least a few hundred dollars. Thanks! Another interesting indicator, after it happened I shut off my car then tried to restart but since the linkage popped off while it was in drive it wouldn’t start.
Well this video saved me a lot of trouble! Thanks guys!
This happened to me today, on the road; I was stuck in Drive. The good news is, the shift cable end had popped off the pin on the transmission actuating lever, and I was able to pop it back on. Of course I didn't know to look there until I watched your video, which was very helpful. I can't help adding, I secured the cable end with two chained cable ties, a better bodge IMO than "mechanic's wire". I also greased the pin; it was quite rusty.
You blow my mind sometimes. All that great info in under 7 min.
I'm having this problem with my Honda Element and based on what I saw here, its time to replace a broken cable.
Thank you so much, mine popped out as I was at the car wash, got in a parking spot watched this video , put the emergency brake on, got underneath, pushed the lever up into park and pushed the shifter back on, took a few seconds thank you SO MUCH
Reminded me of reconnecting the bicycle chain when I was a kid
My wife was just stranded an hour away. Thankfully, we were able to get it home using your video. Thank you!🎉
Thank you so much for this video. A true asset to the community.
I love the way that mechanic talks thru the video and would enjoy to learn more about self car care from her. Does she have a channel?
My god this guide saved me and my boss from having the worst day on road... keep up on the good work and bless you.
The loose steering cable is exactly I have...
2004 Blazer with no prior warning...shifter goes all the way through the entire gear shifting range without changing transmission.
Thank you soooo much for this video!!!!! Really saved the dayy!!! I was able to fix my truck temporarily and leave the parking lot i was stranded at with my 3kids under 2 and get it fixed!
Great video. That's the problem with cars these days. So many critical parts like shifter linkage ends made out of plastic. Also Chevs leaking oil, but that's for another day
SUPER helpful. Easy to understand and definitely saves you guys money.
Y'all are God sent 😭😭😭 this literally just happened to me. God bless you guys for real.
This video saved my work day. Definitely worth a like and subscribe❤
Thank you! I had to be in a training 5 minutes from my house and of course that is when that under the truck joint came apart. Watched this video, fixed it and was only 25 minutes late.
I was at the gas station and all the sudden this happens. At first I got extremely worried. But after watching this video, I feel much better! I was able to find exactly what you said, and it a jam, I was able to set it back on manually (Parking brake and truck turned off of course)
This video saved me a tow. Now I've got a replacement cable and will be changing it shortly. Thanks!
Y’all saved me this issue happened at work and was temporarily resolved
This video just saved me a tow on my 98 chevy silverado...thanks a bunch
Feel more capable everytime I watch this video saved me at the store popped it back on and got home safe
Just saved me from calling a tow truck, and whatever expensive fix. Thanks.
I was hoping to just put on a new C clip, but it might make sense to just get a new cable. THANK YOU!

Do you have any advice why the gear shift lever on my chevy Silverado won't move/shift and change gears after replacing the full linkage cable? Before I replaced the linkage cable everything worked fine. Thanks.
I have a 2005 Chrysler town and country have similar issues would everything be the same way to fix like in this video or will it be different?
Thank you for this vid. I had a noob kid work with his dad on changing the front bumper on a 2013 car of mine, but the car was in P where I left it for them to work it. It turns out that the shifter was stuck in P. When the kid noticed that the shift was stuck in P, he forced the button on the shifter, pressing it as much as possible, and somehow breaking or detaching the cable from the transmission. As a result, the gears would not shift at all and the shifter was stuck in P.
Thanks for your advice, fixed my 1995 Caddy!
Thank you guys exactly what was wrong with my Chevy!!
Love the acting real life stuff, Sue is great. Just not the video I was looking for on the wrong vehicle. keep up the great videos. Maybe on day one will apply to mine.

Thanks to your your video I was able to fix my truck in a moment who are I thought that I was going to have to call a tow truck.
You were the best though. Itz you and that Chris fix guy. I'll watch
Finally! A video I'm looking for! I'm not sure if this is the replacement i need (something slipped) but at least i can locate the part and diagnose it a little better. Always near the holidays 😭
Thank you, using this vid as a starting place!
Does GM make an updated or upgraded part for this cable? I've seen this problem a lot
Thanks for the video, My cadillac escalade just died as soon as i went from drive to reverse and i had to tow it to my house but i noticed that i got no shifter indicator light and my gas gauge is not working so any idea if i need to replace that part?
+Bill We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Excellent "How To" video!!!
Adding a comment. I hope mine is as easy as you make it sound. Thanks!
Ford mustang just had a trans rebuild everything clicks in to place except when I go from drive to reverse its a little off. I can feel it but it will pass the R a bit then I have to pull it down to make sure its clicked in . This only happens when I do from drive to reverse not park to reverse or any of the others what could it Be ? Is it the shifter ? Please answer if possible thanks :)
1A Auto Always helping! Great information and production. Thank you!
Saved me! Thank you so much for this great video!
Saved my life here . Thanks
Why not just replace the plastic bushing on the end of the cable, that you can buy from doorman. The rest of the cable wasn't broken.
This just happened to me while backed in at the boat ramp lmao!
OMG a lot of work, but it works. I would love for you to look at my car.
I think this is very good.
Story of my life for the past few days😂😂
Very informative
Thanks so much for your video simple and informative. Really easy to digest as woman who doesnt have troubleshooting background.
So if you lay under the truck head at cab feet at Tailgate and u grab the automatic shifter when you pull it all the way forward tell it stops is that park or is it L1
Is it safe to drive with loose gear that shifts from Drive to OverDrive?: I have been manually holding gear in drive . 2008 Volvo .
really liked how you explained things, great video

Good Job Chicky!!😉

Ok so I did exactly what yall did in video but gear shifter sticks as it goes into reverse shift lever is loose adjusted underneath several times but still same issue
Im having same issue on my 2012 silverado where the center piece that clicks onto transmission is broke. Do I have to replace whole cable or can I just get a plastic piece to click it back on
same issue I'm looking for the bushings and locking pin as we speak
I’m in the same spot. 2009 Silverado. Cable is good but the plastic bushing that snaps on to the shifter is worn out.
