  • Peugeot Rifter Review
    Hello guys, and welcome back to Car Obsession. Back in November I tested the new Peugeot Rifter, a car that goes-to-toe with the Citroen Berlingo. It offers a similar amount of space, at a similar cost, but I’d argue it’s better looking than its PSA Group counterpart, but is it any good? Watch this video to find out.
    The model tested in this video is the range-topping GT Line fitted with the 1.5 litre turbocharged diesel engine, which produces 129hp along with 300Nm of torque. This power is mated to the front wheels via a choice of either a 6-speed manual gearbox, or an 8-speed automatic.

    I think the boot size of the Rifter, Berlingo, and Combo Life is pretty much the same, but Vauxhall/Opel measure the space differently to Peugeot and Citroen, so it seems to be significantly smaller on paper, while in reality it's the same.

    Does anyone know how the Rifter compares with the Ford Tourneo LWB for rear space? My wife has a Tourneo with a winch for her mobility scooter and the scooter *just* fits in the back with the rearmost seats removed. I drive a Peugeot Partner for work and know it’s a much nicer vehicle to drive. I’d like to be able to talk her into swapping 😋 And of course, the Rifter now comes in EV form, which the Tourneo doesn’t.

    I prefer this over a typical SUV. MPV's are now become underrated and SUV's overrated.
    The Automatic versions: If I'm correct, the PSA group uses the Aisin automatic transmission which are used in Toyota's, (Aisin I think are a subsidary of Toyota). Aisin automatic transmissions are super reliable.

    PSA needs to offer this as an EV; there seems to be enough space under the floor for a battery pack. Perhaps they could use a similar motor and battery pack as in the eCorsa (100 kW, 50kWh, 205 mile range).

    Nice review by a nice guy. But why is it these vehicles are always sold as a vehicle for someone who has give up on life. A vehicle for a big family or to be used as a taxi etc.. I'm a single bloke and I'm looking at getting something like this to camp in, get my bike in, cart various bits of crap around etc etc...but when they have the image of a boring family man it puts me off . The VW caddy van pimped up a bit looks good for instance.

      Hello Simon, thanks for watching, and thanks for the comment. I think the reason is just based on it's more likely to be bought by that audience of people but I can you point.

    • @euangalbally1917
      @euangalbally1917 3 года назад +1

      Simon, I have one of these. I built 2 solid parcel shelves for the split level boot. One levels the floor when the seats are down and the other remains either low down for cooking on or at the upper height for storing a bit of gear whilst tucking your feet under for sleeping. I bought the wind deflectors for the front windows which allow circulation without allowing the rain in and by some miracle, midges don't seem to want to travel up and under the deflectors to enter the vehicle. Absolutely hands down the most practical camper and work car I have ever owned. I have the GT line short wheel base with skylight, light bar and 17" rims. The traction control is a waste of time in my opinion and only gives you 16" rims... Less clearance. Only criticism is the stereo system as Peugeot don't offer an upgrade. Beast of an outdoor vehicle and I do it all in the outdoors!

    • @euangalbally1917
      @euangalbally1917 3 года назад +1

      Oh, and it's the EA8 version, more room in the front and a slick gearbox with paddle shift. Pretty smart.

      @user-ck6kq8zl2i 3 года назад

      @@euangalbally1917 Thanks Euan. Comfort while driving is also important to me too and I think the SWB in black, perhaps with privacy glass may just give it the A Team look and therefore a bit of street cred. Do you think you could get a mountain bike in whole, upright, in the short wheel base version?

    • @thewanderer8
      @thewanderer8 3 года назад +3

      I'm in exactly the same boat and need it for the same reasons., but unlike yourself, not really bothered about words like 'style' and 'image' - it just doesn't bother me as I get older and totally subjective. I'm more interested in functionality, if I can really convert the smaller version into a comfy weekend camper when needed, if I can stretch out, not wake up soaking in condensation, can hold camping gear for longer trips, can hold the bikes in the back instead of having to lug them onto a roof rack etc. I have a Belingo XL test drive and a Rifter Medium size lined up for Wednesday, and fully intend to buy one or the other by the end of the week :-)
