- In this video I battle Proraso GREEN SOAP vs the CREAM in a tube. Razor was the Razorock Gamechanger 0.68 Safety Bar with the Vintage Thick Handle and the brushes were both Yaqi 26mm, Lucky Dice and Rainbow.
I'll provide tips on shaving with safety razors, how to shave your head, how to lather a shave soap and discuss different shaving techniques as well as other items of relevance to shaving. I do have a beard and my videos also include beard trimming tips as well as how to clean your beard with a safety razor. See my other videos for how to define your beard boundaries as well as how to trim your beard, how to groom your beard and how to dye your beard. Your comments on how to improve my videos would be appreciated.

To anyone watching, and to our host, when you’re using a spray bottle to spritz something with water, it doesn’t matter if you do a long slow “shwwwwwwiii” or a quick “shwii”. The amount of water in that tube is exactly the same and the dispersement from the sprayer is exactly the same. I know it might feel like there’s a difference, there isn’t.
And thanks for the side by side comparison. You answered quite a few of my questions.
Unless it's a continuous spray bottle, then you're wrong.

For me the main pro of the cream is that I can also get great results when applying it just by hand with a bit of water. This way I actually tend to get nicer contours since there is no foam obscuring it.
I've noticed a subtle difference between the soap and cream. Cream feels slightly slicker and more moisturizing on the face.. Both still work well for my uses
I really enjoyed the cream and it was a bit slicker but not by much. I look to my post shave products for moisturization and I agree they both work very well.
Great razor, great Proraso. Love that thicker handle.
I have both and fell the cream is way better!!??but will try again in few days
i just ordered my first tube of Proraso from Amazon today after 16 years of traditional shaving. Can’t believe I’ve never tried it before.
Both are very similar, I do agree that the tube cream is slicker, but the tub is easier to store and lather from. Proaso green is my favorite go to.
I know it's a year old now, but great video. When I first started using DE razors I used to bowl lather. But I switched to face lathering to save some time, but then I realized that I was getting better and more comfortable shaves when I did this so now all I do is face lather. I have not used any Proraso soaps or creams but I do use the pre shave from Proraso. I should probably give the Proraso tube cream a shot since it is not that expensive, but I have so many shaves soaps and creams right now that I am set for years! I also have not used any RR razors yet simply because after my RAD phase, I have settled on my 4 favorite razors and sold or given away my others. I currently use the Rockwell 6C, Vikings Blade Chieftain 5 BC(Beautiful razor), Vikings Blade Emperor (frosted chrome), and my personal FAVORITE the Ascension Select double open comb razor from PAA. I use Perma-Sharp Supers, GSB and Voskhod blades. Sometimes I'll use a Rapira Plat Lux, Shark Super Chrome and Lord Plat Class if I just want a 1 time use blade and then toss because those are usually only good for one shave for me. I am not going to list my soaps because I have too many lol.
They seem identical to me too. I do prefer the tub just because it stacks well and doesn’t puncture. Great shave!
Thanks Zachary. The biggest surprise was the strength of the smell but otherwise identical. I recently learned I should keep the boxes for tubes and odd shaped items to ease storage. Tubes as they get used also make for bad shave of the day pics so +1 for bowls.
@@ojshaves1523 maybe I’ll squeeze the cream into the tub once it’s empty… best of both worlds!
I have face lathered but I personally prefer to warm my bowl up in hot water then lather in it after warmed up. Makes for a incredible experience.
I much prefer a bowl lather, its always given me really good results. Maybe its placebo effect but I tend to like the lather in a bowl more. Appreciate the review sir, I will be picking up some soon myself.
So I was way into wet shaving for a while and stopped because I just liked how I looked with a beard better.
I recently decided to concede to the bald battle, and am looking to get back into the hobby. I know I already loved the proraso green in the tube, but wanted to look at other stuff, so this video is very helpful.
I now have more soaps than creams in my den. Own all the Proraso & Single Blade creams (snagged Wood & Spice yesterday off of your suggestion), but I surprisingly have none of the soaps. Glad I subscribed to you. A raise of the razor in salute of the shave OJ.
Thanks Gregory! I will be getting the other single blade creams as well. Wood and Spice is truly fantastic! Thanks for subscribing!
Also take into account how long you want to store it. I'm sure I'm a bit of an edge case, but I recently noticed my tube has gone bad. Hadn't touched it in 10 years but still, the soap from then is still okay.
Proraso green is super classic of italian professional and personal barbering, I love it.
Try red first in winter time for more protection and density and the single blade series, a bit more pricey but awesome
Proraso Red will NOTICEABLY soften your beard hair. There’s a good reason many barbershops use Proraso Red.
Gotta love the classic green scent though!
They use it because it's cheap and available. Definitely countless better products out there.
I like this dude. Just have switched to Proraso and Rockwell,,,,We'll see
Thanks for the interesting comparison. Personally : usage wise I use both Proraso creams and soaps, storage wise I prefer tubs over tubes as I can stack more tubs up on my soap shelf, soaps seem more efficient (need less product) and creams lather up quicker, I don't detect much performance difference between cream and soap. I don't use Proraso as much as I did a few years ago because of my now large SB Artisan soap collection.
Thanks for watching UncleL. I'm starting to keep the boxes for the tubes so I can easily store them. Performance was great with both and since I mostly head lather, I'd probably keep preferring the soap. Since I'm also into the SOTD pics, tubes look nasty as they get used unless you always keep a new one on hand for the pictures.
very similar handle, very different blade. equally bald.
it’s so hard to be mad at the proraso tube. i use maybe 2/3 what you put in, a “fat pea” for a good head shave, maybe that’s why the lather felt so thick.
not my regular but my goodness does it work very well.
I have a bad habit of not wanting to start another shaving soap or cream until I finish the one I’m using. I think I need to change that since I’d like to change it out every once in a while and try different stuff.
Same question I responded to 8 months ago: I do not head-lather because doing that is too sloppy for me, too much drippy that way. I use a bowl only for building the lather in preparation for head-shave.
I love the detailed break down on this review. Great content. Just subbed & liked the video
Tried both, got a Proraso gift box for Christmas last year which had the cream. I'd go for the cream. Recently gave away my Proraso puck to a friend who I've converted to traditional wet shaving. :)
Thanks David. Cream is definitely a great product but makes for crappy SOTD pics as it gets used!
@@ojshaves1523 yeah so true 🤣
What a fun video. Thanks for the side by side!
It was fun to make.
I have only used the proraso red in the tub. Lathers well and is great for head shaves. Even without pre shave
I've noticed that RED in particular really softens the hair and lowers blade resistance. Red is touted to soften hair and I'd say it really does that. I have a Proraso Red video coming up where I'll talk more about this. Other soaps may claim to do this but Proraso Red really succeeds and it's noticeable. The preshave works great if you let it sit for few minutes to let it work.
I have sensitive skin, but have found Proraso Oatmeal & Green Tea shave cream to be the most enjoyable, non-irritating shave cream i have ever tried. Im hooked on it now! The difference is so great that ive literally got no desire to shave if i dont have it. i'd rather just wait a tew days until my new tube arrives than use something thats gonna end up leaving me with my face all red, stinging, and blotchy for half the day or more.
I’ve never used the cream, but I’m so satisfied with the soap I can’t imagine the cream would be better. I guess if you bowl lather that might be a difference factor. But I prefer to make my lather on my face. The Proraso green super formula soap is a great product.
Another thing that is worth mentioning, is that Proraso makes an aftershave talc which really finishes off your shave with a nice matte finish.
7 months later
Well now I tried the tube, and found it to be terrific and every bit as good as the soap. But I still give the soap a slight edge because I don’t usually bowl lather. I go right from the soap to my face.
Hey Lawrence, I was of the same mind but then I tried the cream. Not to say it's better - it's not.. but it can be more convenient and I think it will have a longer shelf life for those of us with tons of stuff. I've been bowl lathering almost exclusively for the past 2 months and have pretty much sold myself on this way going forward. I'm finding the water control aspect to be far superior and it makes brush size much less critical since it doesn't need to hold all the lather anymore. Plus I just feel cooler now and more like a grandpa.
I haven't tried the Proraso Talc yet but I do sprinkle a bit of the Clubman talc on my head from time to time to dull the shine and make it smoother. I think the Proraso Talc has some menthol in it if I recall so I'll have to give it a go.
Thanks for watching!
@@ojshaves1523 It’s been a while since I posted my experience with the soap and I tried the cream in the tube. You’re right and I can certainly appreciate the cream. It is a great product.
Great video sir. I find it interesting that Proraso Blue only comes in a tube. I doubt if I’ve ever seen it in a tub. Come to think of it, I’ve never seen wood and spice shaving cream. I’ll have to look for it. Have a great weekend sir!
Thank you very much! Wood and spice is definitely one of my favorite scents. The cologne is a must!
Blue is a pretty good soap! I just hope the tube will last.
Thanks for doing the review, Mr. juice. :p
Thanks for watching!
Yes!!!
“Proraso” products are shaving products for “true” baldness.
By this we mean that the true value and philosophy of “Proraso” products...
and the clear instructions for use. Thank you. From Korea...
I’ve always been a Shaving Soap guy… it’s what my grandfathers, father, uncles and everyone I knew used when I grew up. My grandmother and aunts even made the having soaps they used… damn good stuff. Tallow based. And they added Bay Rum Oil or Peppermint. They made Bay Rum Aftershaves too.
I do however have a few tubes of Proraso Cream for traveling and just to change things up. And as you say, I don’t perceive any difference in the quality of shave, slickness, etc.
Good review,
George Silver Hawk
Hello! I have a problem with this hard soap from the tub. The tub in my opinion is too narrow, mostly when the soap is about to end. I wish to know how you act when you need to load soap in the lowest part of the tub. I use Proraso Omega brush (Omega 49).
Rispondi
I lather both of those together in the bowl
Will have to try that out!
Good Practical Conclusion! The form of packaging for the hard soap (and its higher concentration) is better than the cream in the tube, but this is mostly opinion.
Great video! I like Proraso because they offer great value and most people can afford it. I cannot chose between red, green and white. I think the green/eucalyptus one is great for the hotter days since it provides a cooler sense. I suggest you try greek artisans like the Grooming Cult company. I prefer bowl lathering. Do you prefer ceramic bowls? They might feel a bit more premium but they are breakable!
For headshaves how would you compare BBS AS against the Game changer youre using?
I really like the Proaso red (scent & performance) , but I’m not a fan of the green , I just can’t take the smell of anything menthol . I’ve heard the after shave(green) don’t smell like soap . I really like my Jaws Game Changer .84 , one of my favorite DE’s
Preference on which Lathering, hard to say. I like the results better for face-lathering but I have better control for bowl lathering. I start ALL my latherings in a bowl. I either continue mixing water in the bowl, OR I paint the concentrated mix on my face and add more water to the face.
Very intriguing review! Thank you!
Thanks for this comparison! That was just what I was looking for! But you had to compare both new soap and tube as they are both new version with Super formula. Besides I've heard that soap scent degrades a little with time, so your old soap could have less scent then the new tube cream. And yes, they have changed the formula in new version a little which is now called Super formula.
I noticed it in particular with the red/green proraso. In the beginning the scent was very strong and didn't appeal to me but as soon as it mellowed out a bit it became one of my favourites.
The cream didn't change in scent at all but also wasn't as potent in the beginning.
Performance is very close, I still prefer the soaps for my morning ritual and due to practicality (easy to stack, no tears like the tubes might get, etc)
I’ve since used a new bowl and my evaluation hasn’t changed. One thing I have changed is I no longer put a wet brush into the bowl to swirl out soap. Instead I now scrape out a bit with a spoon and press it in a bowl. The soap in the jar looks and feels new much longer and doesn’t seem to dry out.
Hello, can you tell me the full name of the razor?
I love green in the tube. The tube will last longer too. The game changer is a great razor.
I love both, in my opinion the cream is better if you want a very compact and scented foam, the solid soap for shaving with the shavette to have a light and liquid cream is ideal.Everyone buys their own :)
I wonder how the two soaps (one as a cream in tube) would compare if the sampling was done strictly on nonvolatile mass; same amount of nonvolatile mass to make a lather of the puck and of the cream. That would be the best way to find a comparison or difference.
This is a good debate….you can’t be wrong. For me….it’s a matter of convenience. I bowl lather and like about a 5 in wide bowl for good brush action. It is just easier to squeeze an almond size dap out of the tube and then start lathering. With the tub….I would scrape some soap out of the tub into the bowl and then start lathering. I can’t see lathering out of the tub…and then finishing in my bowl for best lather. Easier to use the tube. That’s why they sell both.
Pro green cologne would be amazing
Can't wait for them to get with it and give us what we all want!
Great Video! As a head shaver I loved the comparison. Very unique video and great detail and dialogue. Is this comparison copyrighted?🤣
Thanks for the feedback! I'd love to watch your version of the same thing! :)
Hey hi weird question: did the tube of cream happen to come sealed under the cap with perhaps an aluminum or plastic tab? I got some online and it seemed like it wasn’t brand new, including the fact that there wasn’t a tab seal..
I do not think that any of my tubes had a seal.
Just received tube yesterday thought the same thing
I have both Green and Red. Soap, Tube, Can Foam. I found the tube cream to be more in control of lathering and slicker and also stronger scent than soap. The soap was strong for the first few shaves but mellowed down. Maybe because of exposure to air when top is open or soap drying out more over time. The can has a much lighter scent in both green and red (there’s also blue and yellow and white in can). However, don’t misjudge the foamy can with Proraso. It’s not the cheap $3.00 can lather you get in the store. It’s $9.00 for a 10.3 oz can, and it’s thick. With the regular foamy can brands you get a airy kind of water down foam but Proraso it’s very thick and a little squirt is all you need, and has the slickness of the cream without the dryness of the store bought foamy cans. However the smell is very light and doesn't stay but a few minuets after you shave. I use the can version on days I just don’t have time to do the cream or soap brush up shave because of work or busy or overslept or whatever lol. So I would say tube cream over soap, and the can version over all other can brands for a “don’t have time to lather up shave today for whatever reason” days of shaving or traveling. Can version: www.amazon.com/Proraso-Shaving-Foam-Refreshing-Toning/dp/B008F9LRH8/ref=sr_1_8?crid=3E45452OCL8PE&keywords=Proraso+block&qid=1646024316&sprefix=proraso+block%2Caps%2C143&sr=8-8
Hi Anthony. Thanks for your insight and overall I agree. I’ve seen the foam and remained curious if it was any good. For me my ‘don’t have time to shave soap’ is generally TOBS or Body Shop MACA Root (very underrated! - It’s GREAT). Few quick swirls in the container and straight to the head or face. It’s very fast to get going.
Compare Proraso green and C. O Bigelow green. You might like Bigelow better even though the rumor is that Proraso produces the Bigelow cream for them.
It’s not a rumor, it’s literally written on the tube.
Thanks for the tip! I will have to look them up.
Cream is great for a quick lather and efficient shave (to me)…my face is not a proraso fan
Cream is very efficient and I always reach for TOBS or something else when I'm in a rush. I'm just getting started down the tube journey. Lots of proraso to choose from my friend...one is sure to like your face.
@@ojshaves1523 fine has some good tubes
Are the formulas the same only differing in concentrations? Maybe check the listing of ingredients - maybe. Other than that, only the Proraso company knows.
Do all handles fit all heads or do companies make the proprietary…? I’m new to this.
Hey Richard. Yes almost every handle will fit every razor. They actually seemed to coordinate on the thread size! There may be some exceptions but generally yes they seem to be interchangeable across different heads and manufacturers.
which one lasts longer? If both cream and soap have the same quantities, which one would last longer? I wanna find out which one will save me money.
Good question but I think soap would win easily.
I welcome you! We your opinion, mejk the best razor soap, you are a razor cream?
Only on my day off I do bowl leather
Im gettin irritation from the cream but not from the soap both same line (white one)
i find they are equal except for the fact that the cream gets used up faster than the tub ....the tub lasts so much longer ..i can use 1 tub to 3 tubes , so basicly you save money by buying the tub
Ничего не понял,но интересно)
It seems to me that the tub is cheaper to use and the tube is easier to use. Storage wise the tub wins. Proraso red in a tube is one of my favorites because of it's scent and ease of use..
Hey Borwish. The storage aspect is certainly a key one and I've now started keeping my boxes, especially for the tubes so they will be easier to stack and store. I'll be making my way through all the tubes and am looking forward to trying the red one. Cost is definitely a factor for some and will remain a consideration.
Cream all the way! Another good cream tube is C.O. Bigelow's.
The soap lasts longer. They both give great shaves.
The cream is immensely faster. Dab a little on a wet brush and immediately lather. I had used the soap for years and was amazed by how much faster I could use the cream. Bye bye soap.
I saw lather from cream was thicker than soap.
only bowl lather
Sounds like a plan! I have a lot of space on my head to make lather too. LOL
The same goes for TOBS. Creams have stronger scent!
Interesting! Scent was definitely an aspect I wasn't expecting to be different.
Bowl lathering all the way.
I'm starting to agree! I've been bowl lathering for last 2 months almost exclusively and really enjoying it. I'm pretty sold on this way going forward.

I have been a wee shaver for years. My grandfather used Proraso, my dad used Old Spice.

Like (Mitchells' Wool Fat or Arko Shave Soaps just to name a few of the ones you could use?) Cut the bar soap up on a paper plate, pour the soap, shavings and chunks from your plate into a mug, cover the soap with a small amount of water, microwave the cup, put your paper plate under your cup in case it bubbles out of your cup? for a minute or so? If it foams up, STOP. The water keeps it from burning itself up. (DON'T OVER WATER YOUR SOAP??) Easy, does it? Let cool don't want to Crack the Mugs or Cups you're using? Plenty of cream
I prefer the cream
not much difference (if any) between the two. The formula should be the same. In terms of tradition, the tube is the "original" version, meaning this is the form factor in which it was released by Proraso to start with back in the day.
Certainly seem very similar. Used both several times since the video and it really seems to boil down to convenience and preference.
