Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion. There is an idea of a Patrick Bateman, some kind of abstraction, but there is no real me. Only an entity, something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our life styles are probably comparable, I simply am not there.

Old guy here--75--and I truly appreciate the focus on 'timelessness' that the GG team advocates--taste and style are items that truly transcend the current obsession with age--at least here in the U.S of A. As do many others here, I appreciate both (a) knowing what the GG team's favorites are, AND (b) their mature position that it is, truly, our own decisions that count at the end of the day: surely our individual choices are an indicator of style, if not always taste! As for what I advocate in terms of product, I am a die-hard fan of L'Occitane shaving cream and apre-rasage balm. I am blessed with a fantastic head of hair, graying still obediently confined to the temples. For me, alternating between a Pantene shampoo/conditioner combo and Johnson baby shampoo works for cleaning. As a dressing, classic Vaseline (when I can find it) or, failing that, baby oil: both contain lanoline and mineral oil which, at the end of the day, is what Vaseline is. My fragrances [depending on time of day] are Polo [green], Tabac, and [wife's favorite] Santos by Cartier. For casual, walks, etc. a simple Mountain Frost Daily Refresher from Bath and Body Works.
Keep up the good work, gentlemen. Glad I found your site.

On soaps one has to be careful, skin has a pH of about 5.5. Most soaps are alkaline (almost all of them) wich is a no no no for skin care. Dove has a neutral pH (about 7), wich is kind of ok.
I use syndets most of all for my face, is way better than any soap, I use one from La Roche-posay, but there are many brands with good syndets. You guys should try it. I don't know the pH of the soaps you mentioned but you should check it as it is important when recommending soaps.

I recently got back into double edge razor shaving. Times I tried before, it never worked well for me. I found out this time, how important a good pre shave, brush, shave cream/ soap, aftershave, is. I've been using a Omega boar brush, Proraso green for pre shave, shave, aftershave and it made my world so much better. Also razor and blades. I got a Rockwell T2 adjustable and Feather, Astra SS blades. Canned creams, which is all I've ever tried to use before, are terrible.

Preston. I’m right there with you on the Groom and Clean. I love it but found it doesn’t have quite as much hold as I like. What I’ve found and have incorporated into my daily routine is applying Groom and Clean first and then using a little bit Suavecito pomade. It provides the extra hold that I I was looking for. I’ve been through a long list of products, ranging from cheap to ridiculously expensive, and have found the Suavecito to be the best. It’s not very pricey or high end but I love it. It’s also water soluble so it will just rinse right out in the shower along with the Groom and Clean. I’ve found no need to shampoo more frequently with it. Can’t recommend it enough.

Bonjour Messieurs, i hv long interested in man's grooming products.
As a mom of 2 teens boys and a wife of a gentlemen my self 😊
I prefer to fabricated homemade toileteries for them.
From soap, face wash, shaving cream and lotion.
I found that melting cocoa butter, shea butter and jojoba and beeswax (1:1 ratio) added mint eo (0.5%) will produce a great quality of winter lip balm for men. Its provide a very protective layer.
Stay away from all LSL and their generation for hair and face soap.
Yes I agree castille soap is one of the best versatile soap for body care.
Castor oil will provide pretty similar benefit to jojoba oil.
Anyway I write to appreciate your work.
    Happy new year Messieurs.
    God bless.

    Shaving products:
Barrister and Mann, Ariana and Evans, Stirling Soap Company... high tallow content combined with goats milk and lanolin. More expensive than Proraso, but way better quality. For blades I like Astra, Feather, Wilkinson Sword, and ASCO by Lord. My razor is a Rockwell 6S. I like a cooling, non-alcohol menthol splash as an aftershave, from a company in NY state called Taconic. I will also often use Thayer's witch hazel as an astringent, post-shave. Excellent recommendation on the Nivea balm; that stuff is awesome, and given the price it's a no-brainer.
For my hair, styled similar to Preston's (a little longer these days!) I use Booster Lanolin cream. It's great, non-greasy, washes out easily, and gives me just enough hold. Nice classic subtle barbershop scent too. A Canadian classic since the 1920s.
My shampoo is a natural, non-sulphate orange-scented one from Oneka. Doesn't have the drying sulphates and phosphates in it. I use Dr. Bronner's Tea Tree, Peppermint or Eucalyptus bar soap or liquid soap. Not fancy, but I like the smell and natural ingredients.
I'm not a huge fragrance guy, but I do like Fahrenheit by Dior on the rare occasion I will wear a scent.

This was so surprising to me. I’m a barber and all I can say is “you’re doing it wrong” trufitt & hill is a wonderful shaving cream however the whole great thing about it is that it produces a wonderful lather when used with a brush. That’s what you are paying for with that brand. Matting down your facial hair with that cream by hand is like inviting irritation and razor bumps. Using a brush exfoliates your face while a quality lather will stand the whiskers up. Both factors result in a better shave. Exfoliating especially rids the pore (where hair grows) of oil build up and dead skin cells. You don’t need to use a bowl to create your lather. You can do that right on your face and exfoliate at the same time.
As far as hair care… my god.
I just can’t. All I’ll say is that if you have curly hair avoid using alcohol on your hair. Unlike straighter hair, Curly hair has a harder time retaining moisture. So drying it out further on the daily will eventually turn your hair to frizz.

@@Max-yh4jm Yes, good point. I should clarify not to use on face, but it works well on body. Neal's Yard Remedy is also great for face. Their products are very pure and high quality. Their 'saying' is, "Don't be polluted without your permission." :)

Astringents are better for people with oily skin. If you have dry or sensitive skin a Toner is better. Also, when spraying cologne on your wrist don’t rub it in after it’s applied. I’ve had multiple fragrance people freak out over this

Since lockdown in the UK I switched to the more easily available and cheap "Simple" light moisturiser and I wont be switching back now lockdown is ending. Great as both an aftershave balm and general moisturiser.

Some of the US made shaving soaps are heads above anything else on the market. Look at Barrister & Mann (NY), Declaration Grooming (MI), Noble Otter (TX), and Wholly Kaw (NJ) for top notch shaving soaps.

I've been informally studying skin care for a few years, which led me to cosmetic chemistry and product formulation. I have a few issues with some of the products, but the number one rule of skin care is, if something works well for your skin, keep using it.
If anyone wants to do a deep dive into skin care, I recommend LabMuffin's videos and blog. She's a PhD in Australia and explains how and why various products work.

If You like Proraso cream, give a try to Proraso aftershave green line balsam. I'm using it and really enjoy it. Also I'm testing now a Goodfellas inferno shaving soap and for now is really good, oh the smell… awesome.
For hair I'm using Speick shampoo, I like the look and freshness after shower.

Kiehl's has a great "Musk body cleanser", been using it for years, sometimes as a shampoo too.. And Indigo Wild out of Kansas City makes great bar soaps, Zum Bars. Their Patchouli scented bar is my usual..

First of all - HUGE fan of the channel. Love the videos! Second - are there any solid colognes you might recommend (for those that travel a lot). I hate having to put my cologne in Go Toobs. Anything you might recommend as a solid fragrance or maybe an alternative?

I use solid deodorant sticks such as Taylor of Old Bond Street's Sandalwood or Eton College fragrance. Lots of fragrance companies make them.
