The bad thing about wet shaving is that you want to do it more than once a day. Like I tell my friends I not longer have to shave, I get to shave.

I am the same way, i have a beard and went from shaving 1 time every 2 weeks or 1 week sometimes to wanting to shave every day. Cartridge and canned cream was just a mindless routine like brushing teeth.. Wet shaving I feel like it's my time to "pamper" myself and pay attention to the details from lather and load to 3 pass shave and then enjoying a nice aftershave burn. Makes me feel kind of fantsy pants and sophisticated. 👍👍

I'm italian and here proraso(italian product) cost around 2.8$ , so it is used more than other products from abroad. You should use a bowl! Pick up some soap from green bowl and then use a large tea bowl to create the foam :)
Try! You use too much proraso and it's is quite good for face lathering...but 90% of italian prefer lather in a separate bowl and add a little more water ;)

Brilliant Nick, nice to see you revisit this absolute giant of the wetshaving world. I've always had great affection for this soap, cushion and slickness are great (i think your lack of slickness on the first pass was purely down to the sheer volume of soap you loaded, you were moving through 1cm of thick lather, haha). I agree it can be a little drying, not enough for me to see it as a negative, I assumed it was maybe the menthol, I always use a balm anyway.
This stuff has endured the test of time and I'm sure will continue to do so.
I also love the tub it comes in, great ergonomics.

Before you hit the face use a bowl to further whisk the product in said bowl.

Nick, I have watched many (not quite all) of your shave videos and I commend you on your open mindedness and honesty. I've been using Proraso for many years and have had great results. I live in Sydney, Australia and have very soft water which could explain the good performance. I agree that you can get a drying, almost tightening feeling in the face. I ensure that I clean off the face thoroughly and moisturise well.

I think this soap is more of a 'cream'. I haven't used it yet, but looking at it what I'd be inclined to do is get some on the brush and transfer into a separate bowl so it's not too dry, or even dip your finger in and grab an amount. It seems very concentrated and looks like, the Nivea Sensitive cream which is also pretty concentrated. It smells damp or stale in the bowl and I'm pleased you report the aroma is 'alive' with use!

I just recently started having break outs and itching from body wash/bath soaps and after making lots of changes and a lot of investigating ingredients I believe I have narrowed it down to sulfate. I prefer natural products anyway and you going over the ingredients keeps me from wasting time and money. The cream lathers us very easily just like the soap does and I really like the menthol feels great in the morning. I don't use it often right now due to it being winter but during a summer heat wave it'll be my go to alongside the absolutely amazing Nivea. Great recommendation on that I've recommended it to other people and they were shocked at the quality for $3.99 a tube in Canada. Thumbs up on this review. Give the cream a try too!

This stuff really dries out my skin, unless I'm lathering it wrong. It seems to load up well in my brush. But after the shave, it just dries to no end. It almost ruins the shave, even if I had a good one, because it just dries everything up. I'll have to give it another go. I agree with the lack of slickness. Just ordered my first pure badger brush so perhaps it will result in better performance, I've been using boar bristle for a while.

I related so much to this video. I use the Treet Black Beauty's exactly how Nick described here! In an aggressive razor, it allows for the shave to be close but reduces the chance of cuts. On days where my face is feeling a bit beat up from shaving frequently or maybe I rushed a bit too much with sharp blades, the Treet with a non aggressive razor(Gillette tech style) and I get a smooth comfortable shave. Love treats in my arsenal and I love Poraso.

@nick shaves ... What would you consider the “Rolls Royce” of shaving soaps ? 🧐
I switched to the safety razor a month again and I ended up buying a 5.5oz puck through Stirling and got a wintergreen scent. It’s good but it’s not great either. I got the Van Der Hagen and the soap that it came with was suitable but not fantastic by any means.

When should I choose the 'slant' razor, Nick? I'm skittish about it, as it just seems odd.

Proraso green was my first soap and I really liked it but I've moved onto a lot of other soaps and creams since then and still haven't finished my first tub. I do return to it every now and then and even used to use it weekly for awhile, but I do find the creams to be better than the soaps when it comes to Proraso products.

I use the Proraso green with a shavette and Darby blades. . I am new to wet shaving this year. It was my first shaving soap. I was looking for something in menthol and it had good reviews on amazon and what seemed like a good price. I really like the way my face felt after the first shave. I have found that sometimes i don't get the lather quite firm enough and i need to re-apply mid pass, I haven't noticed the residue but I wipe my Razor down after each use. I have since stated to try some different samples. I like the Dapper Dragon soap, it makes a really thick cushiony lather for a smooth shave but not a lot of slickness. Is there a trick to making the lather that will increase the slickness?

Nick thanks for giving Proraso a second chance. I will agree the post shave isn't as good as some others such as Stirling and Barrister & Mann. It does have a clean feeling that others just don't have. I consistently get great shaves from this stuff maybe cause I have used it so much. So yes there are slicker soaps, more hydrating soaps, but Proraso Green is just a great soap all around. I do like the White as well and Red, I have not tried the Blue but I am thinking about. Again thanks for the videos and I would like to see more straight razor shaves!!!

Hi Nick. Do you know what the white film is caused by? I am assuming it is a soap ingredient but I wonder if it is intended by Proraso so the film acts a post shave protector of some kind??

I honestly love your reviews, you are my favorite wet-shave reviewer! Could you review any of "The Art of Shaving" products? I have their their shaving cream & post shave balm, I'd like to know how the other products you use compare to these! Thanks for the great content, keep it up!

Me too... I am Italian and prejudiced to Italian everything... However, I tried the Art of Shaving samples and the results for me seemed significantly better. Would be very interested in seeing an AofS comparison.
And yes, the buildup is on my razor as well

I love the Proraso white, I like the red but I am disappointed from the green, either cream and soap! No slickness at all makes shaving difficult!

So at this point I've watched like 6 of your videos, and I love em! Thanks!
I've been shaving with a straight razor (Parker shavette with Derby or Astra blade) and puck (Proraso sandalwood) for the past year (I have a full beard, so I just clean up my neck and cheek line up), and always thought I was doing a good job with the process.I find that the soap leaves a rather dry film on my skin after shaving and on my tools as well -- kind of like what you said. I love the blooming technique that you use, and I cant wait to try it out soon! I'm looking to move towards a double edge safety razor like the iKon 102 you had showed in a previous video, looks slick! I also want to move to a different shaving soap, something with more natural ingredients; and likewise with the aftershave lotion.
Thanks a lot buddy, look forward to your future videos.

Hi Nick. The question of the new years eve... after you test a lot of razors and blades, finally, which is for yourself the best razor together with the best blade?.
Thank you and happy new year!!

Nick, great video as usual. I was wondering is the Merkur 37C is your go to slant razor? I am looking to step up my game in the razor department as I only currently have one (The free one I got with my Wet Shave Club subscription.) Maybe you could do a "best razor and blades pairing" or a "razors wet shaver needs to have" video? I would love to see your opinion with that. Keep it up!

Hi Nick! Love your reviews. I just started DE shaving and just bought a stack of mixed Proraso soaps and creams to get me started and a Cella to add. I am OK with the Proraso white, green and red, but I am interested in something a bit more slicker. What would be your suggestion? Your Mike's soap review along with the Woolfat looked a good choice. The Bay Rum looks nice too. Thanks Mike in Japan.
