As someone with sensitive skin, I’ll add that a proper skincare regimen along with proper prep/post shave makes a world of difference.
Thanks to my wife and setting aside the male ego aspect of it, the products she introduced me to use at night and in between shaves have finally helped me get zero bumps/burn etc.

@@geofatboy hi Geo. She got me a nicer high quality face wash instead of using shower bar soap that’s much gentler to facial skin. I still use witch hazel morning and night after showers/face washes. After that I alternate glycolic acid or retinol and follow with a hyaluronic cream. Most days I’ll add some vitamin E drops to it. Not a lot of stuff that’s super fancy but it’s made a big difference in making my skin look much cleaner. Also course also a higher spf sunscreen when outside. Keep in mind I was always super prone to bumps post shave and breakouts in general. So for me, it’s been majorly helpful.

The best and tested way for me is to use the coldest tap water, a sharp blade, an aggressive razor ( r41 or rockvell 6s with 6/5 plate ), one with the grain pass, and if you need a second pass do it across the grain. Avoid against the grain passes!! I put preshave cream always before lathering, and the lather is made by cold water as well. I apply the lather on my face before first pass at least for 2 minutes so that the hairs get well hydrated. After shave rinse with cold water and apply aftershave.

Last year I found the Rockwell 2C at a local thrift shop… she had 4 all in boxes. They were selling them for $29.95 each. I told some friends and co-workers to go try it out. When I went back in, there was one left, so I bought it😁and the lady said, “man people have really been buying this razor, you are getting the last one!”
I said I know, I sent them here😂. Since then they all have told me how much they Love the razor and they are glad I pushed them into Wet Shaving! I think I have recruited 17 people since Aug 2022🤣. I always recommend the Rockwell 6C or 6S. Just a great Razor/company and I think it comes with a lifetime warranty.

Shave efficiently, do as less passes as possible, stretch your skin on problem areas, use a mild razor, even though I have copper wire-like beard, my skin is super sensitive, once I switched to a feather AS-D2, all the issues you have went away, you don't have to spend the ridiculous money on the feather, the Henson AL13 works very similarly and is way cheaper. The search for your optimal shaving needs is a path of experimentation. Good Luck!

    1) Shave after hot shover.
    2) Feather blades + DE89 (waiting to get the new feather carbon blades to try).
    3) Alum block.
    4) Proraso green line pre shave cream before and after the shave. Started using it after shave just recently and its a true game changer. Thanks Geofatboy again.
    5) Any after shave product only without alcohol.
    6) Rinsing the razor in cold water also works better for me.

It is very difficult to glide any kind of razor on the neck unless you have sufficient amount of fat over there, even electric razors are not useful in this. Even after against the grain pass, the neck area doesn't get smoothed due to the across the growth whiskers which are very difficult to shave off.

I will try that today! The Rockwell is a great beginner razor, but also great for sensitive skin. It is by far my favourite razor. Personally, if I’ve got two or more days with a growth I like the 4/2 plate. But for one day of growth, the 3 plate followed by the 2 is my fave. I find the 1 plate does almost nothing lol. i have sensitive skin and will often have a bit of rough or bumpy skin, especially when inflammation hits me no matter the routine for cleanliness and hydration. the biggest issue for me, however, is the neck contours paired with grain direction changes. i have these deep valleys in my neck that are hard to reach. there's just no way to pull or stretch the skin in any direction because the grain in these areas is at an odd angle so it's really hard to follow in the direction of it. the result is across the grain shaving at the most sensitive area which will irritate the skin no matter what. i am considering an r41 or something more aggressive as i feel it might actually be better. but either way if im hitting a rough eczema patch the skin is going to be bumpy and i'll get weepers anyway

Very interesting video. Is the 2c the same razor as the 6c with less plates? I have sensitive skin, especially round my neck. Wondering if I should test drive my first shave with the 6 plate or a 3 plate out of the box coming from a very mild King C DE which was not the closest shave for me even with 3 passes. Also, the included Rockwell blades I heard are not the greatest, what's your go to blade? Trying to Keep It Simple while I adjust to the new Razor. Thanks for all your awesome content!

So a massive thank you for that, just had my first shave tonight, I think it went quite well. I enjoyed it. I struggle with ingrown hairs and razor burn all the time, could you recommend a decent honest after care lotion?? Really loving the channel and videos.

Hey great video. Looking for some recommendations if you wouldn’t mind! I recently started shaving with a supply single edge SE (nick guard version) and Ive been experiencing redness/bumps. Ive recently done more research on shave regimens and will expand my pallet but for now I’ve just been wetting my face with lukewarm water, using shave smarts shave cream with a brush and massaging it into my face, and beginning the shave, also using witch hazel after. It’s extremely frustrating as I have soft skin and my hair grows in all sorts of directions specifically on my neck. I have very thin hair which makes this ordeal a little less aggravating but nonetheless it’s super frustrating. I tend to do around 3 passes total and usually go over certain spots even more, which I think is contributing to the irritation. Do you have any experience with supply razors? I’d be open to trying something else although I don’t want to trial and error a bunch of razors just to find out none of them work any better than the supply razor!

Once you presented rinsing the blade with cold water instead of hot/warm to avoid cutting and irritation.

    Hi Geo:
I've watched your videos for years and have decided that you must have a perfect hair growth on your neck. You always shave down, then up on your neck and that's it. I have not done a face map, but I know by feel exactly how my hair grows on my face and neck. If I were to simply shave up and down on my neck, it would miss about 60% of the hair.
Then came the face map video and THE TRUTH. You're just like a regular guy! 😃You're hair grows in many directions on your neck, just like us! I always wanted to see how you would cut the hair on your neck with a straight razor. But it was still the up and down motions and that was all. I figured it was the extreme sharpness of the razor that magically cut all the hair. Well, now we have the reveal in the face map video. It was like seeing a fellow with a great hair suddenly reveal it was a wig.
What we need to see now is a COMPLETE shave. That is, how you would normally shave without considerations to a beginner. It would be especially interesting with a straight razor.
I know you have a video on shaving the neck, but it would be a great service, I believe, if you would do a complete shave including the total neck shave.
I use the Mercur Futur at about 2 for the third multi-direction passes on the neck. Works well.
