Ibanez SR505 5 String Bass Review... It's a BEAST!

  • Another quick, stupid review. A beautiful 2017 Ibanez SR505 five string bass - this thing is a beast and I really enjoy playing it. You can hear the reviewed SR505 in the opening and closing music for this video, running through the requisite Nembrini virtual amp. I've had several Ibanez basses over the years and always liked them, even "the one that got away".
This link from Sweetwater is for the most recent version of this bass, the SR505E. Not quite sure what the 'E' is for. Specs are similar to mine though: www.sweetwater.com/store/deta...
Looks like Ibanez has added an EQ bypass switch (interesting) on the newer version: www.ibanez.com/na/products/de...

Beautiful! I'm sad they don't have that finish in the left handed version. I'm probably gonna get this bass for myself sooner or later :D

Left handed people get screwed. I know it's a chore for the companies to make both left and right handed models, but when you have one this good, just do it! They would definitely sell them lol.

ibanez moved the truss rod access from the headstock w/ cover plate to the heel w/ open access.

Interesting! Always been more of a fan of the headstock access, but I'm also averse to change (i.e., old). May have to pop down to my local music store and check that out - saw a newer one hanging on the wall there a few weeks ago.

I have a 2009 sr 300 roadstar orange beautiful!! i have a gsr 200 sounds great. last tear i bought a new sr300 totally different electronics. amazing sounds very versatile plays jusy like my 09 model but to my ears it sounds alot better. i bought in vale stoke its a bluish color . ibanez makes the best looking basses period!! i have no reason to go to a 5 string..steve harris doesnt need one and geddy lee doesnt need 5 strings!!

I still regret getting rid of the SR300 I had. It had a beautiful natural finish. I've always been a four-string player and generally use the SR505 less than my Jazz and P basses. However... for the album I'm currently working on I've almost exclusively used the SR505. Go figure, right? It's a nice piece to have in the "tool box". Rock on!

I am new to guitar can you tell me what is the differences between 5 string and 6 like can I still play all the songs I want?

Hi Joseph - bass guitars generally come in 4-string and 5-string versions, although there are even more variations. The 4-string is the standard and it's tuned like the low four strings on a regular guitar, just lower. The 5-string bass is the same as the 4-string with one extra, lower B string, so it allows you to play even lower notes than the standard 4-string. You would be even happier with that bass if you upgrade the pups to the Bart. Mk5cbc's or the BH2's if you can find them. Those Mk1's are muddy.

It’s all taste. I have hard hands with a lot of calluses. The darker ceramic split coil pickups give me bass frequencies that few other pickup configurations will.

    And it's light weight

Indeed it is! Starting to wonder if the weight thing is - perhaps - a bit more psychological. Have to say... having a heavy hunk of Les Paul over the shoulder feels; right! But the sound? As I often say, the looks matter. Maybe the weight does too. LOL
