  • Having a good time with a progressive bass song composed by me :) Always playing on my Ibanez SR505BM & recorded it with the DI output of the super-top Orange Terror Bass 1000. Drums were programmed by myself with the EZ drummer. Recorded and mixed in Cubase. The song is nice mix of slap and fingering technique, some overtones in the "strange" part that by the way is in 5/8, all song in 4/4 of course :) Thanks for watching and feel free to comment, like, share and subscribe!

    I got this bass, I love it, I was reading some ppl hating on it saying you have to use a Fender Jazz or P to please most bands and producers. I personally love it, so decided to look up more videos and found you. Clearly you know what your doing!

      Thanx! Yes this Ibanez bass is just a great instrument, it is pretty different from a Fender one but I used it on a lot of records and it always did his job. First it is very light so it's perfect if you gig a lot, I was using a Roscoe Beck before that has an important weight. Then the sound is very clear with a lot of attack. And the Ibanez has an honest price, too. I think it's a must-having bass in your collection.

      first I'd like to remember that when I bought this bass in the so far 2004 it was equipped with Elixir strings😂😅 then I always used the 0.45 scale.. in this video I think I'm using the Hi Beams DR strings, but believe me, I setted this bass with the warwick red label strings for a long time and I think they are amazing on this kind of bass, you could try⚡

      Ciao John, on this bass I used Warwick Red Label string stainless steel for a long time, then mounted DR HiBeams. First you should try the first one even because their cheap price. Orange is the best amp ever, it has great volume and powerful that is required for this kind of basses with thin body and neck. Try to keep pickups in the middle and push about +1 low and +1 treble on the bass eq. I often stay flat on amp, it depends by the cabinet I use. Thanx and keep groovin'💪

    What sort of magic are you doing that keeps the B string silent when you're slapping the high strings toward the end? I don't see any left or right hand muting, yet it's dead silent.

    • @Simonevignola
      @Simonevignola  4 года назад +1

      Ciao Kane, I started studying guitar first when I was 6 and fretwraps didn't exist at all so throught the years I evolved the left hand fret muting pretty well. First the right thumbing (that is the main problem) must be very accurate, second I use the left fret muting but the movement I think is very fast and you maybe don't see, but I do it obvoiusly. It is a practice matter⚡

    • @kanesmith4961
      @kanesmith4961 4 года назад +1

      @@Simonevignola Hey, thanks for responding! I should've been more clear, I'm talking mostly about the part that starts around 3:14 where your fretting hand isn't even near the low strings, so I'm very curious how you pull that clean sound off. I've been playing (treble!) guitar myself for a few decades and muting is a non-issue obviously, but picked up the 5 string bass just this summer, and slapping is a whole new experience. In this instance I'd probably attempt to do some palm/wrist muting on the low B & E, and probably fail :).

    • @kanesmith4961
      @kanesmith4961 4 года назад +1

      On closer inspection, I see you're obviously left muting when you're thumbing your roots, so maybe that's sufficient since it's a fast section. Due to my guitar playing I might be stuck with a heavy distortion mentality where everything's compressed to hell and you need to make skin contact with strings at all times.

    • @Simonevignola
      @Simonevignola  4 года назад +1

      Hey Kane, thanks for the question, when you apply the left muting on the guitar you usually do it with the little finger, for the bass I stop the strings often with the middle finger, or even with the ring finger in fact I often prefer to use the little finger to press the keys. Now, in the part of the video that you pointed out to me you can see that after playing each tonic of the riff there is always a little tap of the middle finger that goes to keep the strings blocked. For me it is essential to work with the taps of the left hand.

This Ibanez has not a great definition on the 200 hz so you should have a good amp for having the thumbing boom. Muchas gracias!⚡

    Ciao Simone gran bel video. Ho 56 anni e suona ad un livello intermedio e normalmente mi oriento su strumenti più classici (suono con un Precision) Visto i problemi di schiena mi chiedevo se non fosse saggio anche in prospettiva valutare la leggerezza come un fattore importante. Questo basso mi piace molto esteticamente ma non sono ancora riuscito a provarlo. Mi apre che ormai i negozi , anche i più grandi tendano a ridurre gli stock. Mi interessa sapere se effettivamente pesa meno e se l'intercorda e significativamente più stretta. grazie mille se avrai il tempo di rispondere

    • @Simonevignola
      @Simonevignola  Год назад +1

      Ciao Alessandro, grazie per il tuo commento! Quando parli di negozi pieni di strumenti da provare.. ho preso questo strumento nel 2004 a Napoli, di persona, provato e comprato, bei tempi! Allora posso dirti che pesa poco, cioè senti la differenza rispetto ad un fender shape, il body è piccolo fatto con legni leggeri (credo mogano) e il manico è molto sottile e comodo (se non sbaglio bubinga/wenge), ciò nonostante risulta molto bilanciato, innanzitutto rimane bello orizzontale con la tracolla e scarichi anche bene il peso (comunque ridotto). È solo attivo, versatile, si ottengono belle sonorità ma sappi che ha un suono decisamente attivo (molto attacco, le basse più boostate sulle 200hz). L'eq ti consente di ammorbidire ma non è il suono Fender, è un suono Ibanez che a me è sempre piaciuto. Con il 4 corde non hai troppi problemi di intercorda stretto, sul 5 corde non hai la comodità sullo slap come uno strumento tipo Fender, lo spazio è minore e ti ci devi abituare. Io sono riuscito a trovare un buon feeling e ci faccio di tutto quindi non lo vedrei un problema, ricordo che all'inizio tendevo a slappare più con la mano in perpendicolare (alla Flea, per intenderci). Anni fa avevo una disco band, macinavamo tantissime date, spettacolo sulle 2 ore, portavo sempre e solo questo strumento proprio per stare leggero con la schiena.. mi ha salvato! Un abbraccio e stay slapico!⚡️

      @@Simonevignola Grazie mille per la tua veloce risposta. Le cose che mi dici mi fanno capire che dovrei assolutamente provarlo prima di acquistarlo (discorso ovvio ma che sta diventando complesso). Mi ero inizialmente orientato sul Sire V7 ma non riesco a provare neanche quello. In tutti i casi il mio precision è un bello strumento ma è pesantino e molto poco bilanciato (meccaniche molto pesanti credo) quindi difficile andare in peggio da quel punto di vista

    • @Simonevignola

      Il V7 è senz'altro il mio preferito in questo momento (V7 Vintage il mio), li come sound e intercorda stai al massimo, pesa sicuramente più dell'ibanez, il Sire V10 (ho un po' di video sul canale) invece è abbastanza leggero, un saluto a presto!

      ciao Lucas, for several years I used Warwick red label strings that are cheap and very brilliant even their life were not very long, so I switched to DR Hi-Beams, always 0.45🎸 when I play it into the Orange head I have to cut a little on high frequencies, also the amp make it brighter⚡

      Hola amigo, gracias! First use a medium scale like 45/125, now I'm using DR strings, they are awesome on all kind of bass. If you want to try something cheap but very nice for this Ibanez you should mount Warwick Red Label in stainless steel. They are very brilliant and add some kind of metallic sound on slap that balance the brown wood sound of the instrument. Slapic bye!⚡

    How’s the B string? Is it tight?

    • @Simonevignola
      @Simonevignola  3 года назад

      Hey ciao mate, the B string is pretty stuck, it doesn't' vibes out of his space and the sound is right. This bass has a good note duration, the bridge is a Gotoh and works good, consider the bolt on construction has its limits on this kind of light wood instrument. The space between the B and the E is not so much, better for fingering but gaining confidence with it you can slap as well.

      You're welcome, I used this bass since long time cause of its very light weight and good playability. I aslo loved its sound with an incredibly attack, it has Bartolini MK pickups. Defects are the active-only electronic and the little space between strings (that is good on pizzicato, isn't the best for slappers). I'm now using SIRE basses, I prefer them, but I still have and use this wonderful Ibanez🎸

      Ciao man, I'm mainly using a Sire MM V10 bass but I also still use this Ibanez. Got it since 2005 and I have a great feeling with it. Will do new videos with it in the future. Thanx for watching 🔥
