- This is part 1 that follows an 8-day overland trip which starts off in Denver, Colorado. We work our way down south through Saguache to check out the old school - military Jeep museum and by 3am of the first night we are exploring the hoodoos and Alien Throne at the Valley of Dreams Trail in New Mexico near Farmington in the Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah Wilderness area. If you have not seen them before, or even if you have, these magnificent natural structures gain a second personality when bathed in moonlight. Under a full moon taking night shots was absolutely magical, not to mention freaky and freezing. This video is a little short and my first actual attempt at filming, but the pictures of this otherworldly place are absolutely worth the watch. That looks SO COOL!!!! Also looked terrifying traveling at night with no roads 😂😂!!
Yeah, it was not my finest moment. Just glad I didn't find some real trouble being on private land accidentally!
Those old school jeeps 🤩 nice museum
There were a few I wish I had the keys to!
Had a Jeep. Sold my Jeep. Miss it still. ....Awesome photos dude. Your phone sensor is pretty sensitive. I hate to admit it, but I'm a lifetime resident of NM and I've never been out to the Bisti. I think you've convinced me to get off my @$$... Keep on searching!
I sold my Jeep as well, rocking a truck at this point. Hope you find a reason to go check out this amazing spot. So worth the effort!
Those military vehicles are cool!
You would never catch me on the trail at night😅. Unless I was hunting Durangotans😅😂😅😂. One man enters, one animal has a meal. Nope!
I was recently spent some time around a group of them...shocked that I am still alive to talk about it.
Thank you for sharing your adventure to Valley of Dreams at night. I can see now that I will have to rethink about driving from Valley of Dreams to Bisti Badlands trailhead at midnight in my CX-30 AWD Mazda. I think I will have to sleep at the Valley of Dreams trailhead. By the way, is it likely I will have difficulty even arriving at Valley of Dreams during daylight with my Mazda with semi-high clearance and AWD? I want to find Alien Throne for an astrophotography subject. If all goes as planned, I will have an epic solo trip. AND, my daughter and her family are heading to Valley of Dreams in a FWD Sienna van. Is it doable, or will she have to contend with deep sand?
First and foremost, being able to see these natural sculptures is worth the risk. Given the vehicles you will be in, I would avoid going during any kind of bad weather. That being said I do think your cars could make it there, but I would feel better about the situation if you weren't solo or at least knew a second vehicle would be on the way. The biggest thing would be making sure to have a good map. I was using Gaia and Google maps and they didn't help me much at all. Gaia is usually spot on. I feel like if you get the correct road in and out, you should have a rather easy trip. Hope you have a great time, you'll love it.
LOL at Southwest Blair Witch Project 😂
Seriously though, a part of me thought I was going to wake up in someone's basement, covered in weird markings, with some sort of seance going on in the other room.
