Happy Thanksgiving to anyone down in the US!
I made this tutorial for anyone who isn't quite sure about their body positioning on the dirt bike. Having proper body positioning is critical if you want to take your riding to the next level. This body position will set you up to be able to ride faster with more control and stability. There are so many more details involved with body positioning so if you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments!

This is by far the single most useful video on body position for dirt biking I've come across. Thanks Megg
I found it unclear.

Lovely, as always. Get 101 right to get to 201. I have only everything to work on!
Very informative video!
Correct body position is one of most difficult thing to me, I'll try your suggests in my next ride this weekend
Keep doing these technical videos, you're a really good teacher!
toes pointed in position allows the knees to come together naturally and tightly when in the proper attack position which squeezes the bike without having to actually squeeze the bike. this is the number one position point to reduce arm pump
The Falkor, Since I started paying more attention to my toes and squeezing the bike with my knees, arm pump is much improved.
I tried pointing my knees together while in the shower, but I still got arm pump
I never miss one of your vids :) waiting for the other one
Love your videos, you break things down nicely. Easy tips easy to follow. I hope you keep em coming !
Was just talking to my brother about this who is newer to riding. Your absolutely right about having vid of yourself as we discovered his body positioning when race pics where posted. Will pass it his way. Haha liked the don't segment clip! Happy turkey day Megs
Love the video your so good at riding happy thanksgiving 🦃
Awesome video as always. Very helpful :)
Such great tips! That vertical lower leg is harder than it seems it should be. I remember you coaching us about it in your awesome clinic. And when my knees start aching, I know I need to make that adjustment.
Happy New year to you megs
Love your videos Meg. You're a talented gal!
I'm not simping but you're so adorable when you ride the wrong way at the end lol
Thanks Meg.. Big love and thanks for all the great advice
Nice work Meg!
Thanks for the tutorials my idol. Preparing to trail one day. Just loading tons of tutorials like this first... Ride safe
Thanks for your coaching. I am a new comer for dirt bike.
Always good content in your videos, Megs....thanks! Hope your Thanksgiving was a good one! Ride safe!
Allen Huling Thanks Allen!
Yes Megan more tutorials, its help,n thxs for the tricks n tips
Solid advice, thanks!
great advice. Thanks!
I'd like your ideas about body position when going up steep (for noob anyway) hills. I feel like I'm hanging onto the handlebars just to keep from falling backwards. You're awesome, Megs!
Megs just awesome!
Thanks for the heads up Megs. I'm on the way to ride single track today! BTW Happy thanksgiving everybody!
Already had our thanksgiving here a while ago lol
@@Jake_Hynds everything in BC must come quick pal!
@@willeypoboy6052 whistler is open that's for sure going this week 🤘🤘 that's quick ..but not sure why you say everything els must be ?
@@Jake_Hynds weather was cold here today @33 degrees (southern Maryland ) but great day to ride woods today! Nothing froze solid so good traction. Hope for the same back your way
Great vid and tips, this is something I need to work on, especially the legs. As a Part 2, could you maybe provide some body position tips for accelerating and braking? Because I’ve struggled with that for a long time. I would get pulled off the back of the bike while standing and accelerating until I learned to lean forward. Just thought. And keep up the great work!
Daniel Shattuck yes this!!!
Thanks for the tips.
If you can do more, it would be very nice.
I am a beginner at 33 year old. It is never late to learn. But alone it is a little more tricky.
I have seen other videos from you, and they helped a lot.
Thanks.

Butt back, elbows up, knees bent, weight the rear tire kinda seems like a dance move lol keep it up lady awesomeness
🤣🤣
Great tip! I'll have to get someone to film me!
I know what to work on now thanks Megs! - Amy 😀
Hey Megs, great tips. Wish I paid more attention to that when I started riding 11 months ago. I video most of my rides but never thought asking someone to video me while riding (usually at McNutt). One thing that’s helped me lately with arm pump is squeezing the bike with my knees (toes in). It just gets tiring and I often forget (too much to think about).
Hey there , i live in langley ive been riding for a few months now but mostley and chimpmunk creek and tamahi , are there novice trails at Mcnutt to help build skills? Or is it more advanced over there?
Awesome vid :-)
Great vid megs, I do just wish you'd have done one thing..... Called it "Attack formation"
Just a little Star Wars geek thing hahahaha
keep the Videos coming megs!!!
newly subs from ph.!! trying this tips on sunday. im a beginner by the way 😁
I'll try
Hi Meg! Fab content !! 🤘🏽Just a quick question, How are the feet to be positioned on the foot pegs while in the attack position?
You really need a lapel mic hey, there are a few on the market that fit in a bumbag or hydro pack
Could you show us the right position when we are riding up hill? Thanks 😊
Does this also implies on extreme Inclined road (full of rocks)
Great video.small question from someone that crashed while standing up at full speed.any tips to get back standing? Currentlly when in danger i sit down.specially on uphils downhills and rocks
Hey! Thank you for your video!
Could you explain more about foot position? From one side I've been told to cover the break but I have to put pegs under the middle of my foot just before the heel so the joint doesn't work at all.
From other side if I want to use foot joint then I should put the finger pads to the pegs then I can't touch the break.
(I have standard complection and height of 180 cm.)
Any advices?
Very similar to the stance of a downhill ski racer.
I sometimes use one weird position. It's like sitting but all my weight is on the footpegs. Like my butt is 1mm off the seat. Idk if it's somthing but it has worked for me in slippery conditions.
Forgot unlock your hips great video
Are you doing clinics in 2019?
How do you keep your Klim gear so clean? Mine gets dirty after everyride and i feel like its impossible to get white again
Plz tell how to does an ,back flip please
Do you have any back yard drills to share? Things u can practice in a small space maybe with a log or two?
We live in suburbia, cant start our bikes without pissing the neighbours off, but you can work on static balance without the engine running. Static balance skills payoff bigtime when you dont have to take your feet off the pegs through technical sections.
Humm... nice channel'

thanks for this, maybe you can help me a little. When I am in the standing riding position, it always feels like any throttle or brake input causes the bike to lurch away from me. I feel like I don't have a solid grip on the bike, when I hit the throttle it almost pulls out from under me. I also feel somewhat unstable standing. Should I be gripping the tank with my knees or something??
A bit late to the party, but what I discovered lately is that when you put yourself in the position Meg shows (butt basically over the rear wheel, hands extended) and swueeze the bike tightly, the pull is barely noticeable.
I had the same problem before - the pull nearly took the handlebar from my hands - and the change in position helped immensely.
So, for anyone having this issue - get your butt over the rear wheel, basically until you're pushing againts the pegs. The stability improvement is awesome (and the bike wants to do a wheelie, so be careful) :)
My favorite dirtbike position is 69 on my screamin eagle 98 cr250
What is the advantage for trying to fly with your elbows? Why not assume a more natural position?
I wish you included why it’s bad to stand with your lower legs & knee bent a little forward. I don’t understand why that would be a problem.
Most likely because it's not a strong position even if it may feel ok. Your knees can give causing you to bobble and instead of working the trail your working to stay on the bike.
2:15 explains it
@@davebennett5069 Thanks Dave, I missed that!
If I lean back like your doing its wheelie air time

Damn, I've been riding standing tall... must fix this!!!
Your so right megan..its hard to keep elbows up when i am tired..i am a short rider and have. A low seat..so my bars sit high..how can i compensate for this with body position? I have fastflexxbars..cr bend
Craig Steinman Hey Craig,
Your low seat shouldn’t affect how high your bars sit if you are standing up. You should almost always be standing. 95 percent of the time, standing is ideal. Although the Flexx bars do sit higher than a stock bar would so that might affect it a bit in your standing position. The best you can do is keep the elbows out. They don’t necessarily have to be really high. Just a nice wide stance you know what I mean? This gives you so much more strength and stability. It’s like doing a wide grip push-up vs a close grip/tricep push-up. You have way more strength as you widen your grip because you are now using your chest, back and arms rather than mostly just your arms.
Thank u so much..wide not so much high. Awesome..that wiil really help me .especially in corners i have beee drifting so much in..you are the queen of enduro
Craig Steinman No problem! I’m really happy to help!
Question!! Nobody seems to address this, is your brake pedal set up so you don't have to move your foot on the peg at all to brake? The more I ride, the more I'm getting use to it, but my rear braking game is still pretty odd feeling on technical downhill when I really need it but also really need to feel planted. Adjusting it didn't do a whole lot :(
Riding n Stuff Your rear brake pedal should be set up so that you can pivot your foot to press it down and it engages almost right away. You shouldn’t have to reach way down for it. It needs to be high enough that it’s right there when you need it. When you set it up though, make sure you leave a tiny bit of play (not engaging the brakes before it’s even being pressed). It’s easy to accidentally over adjust it when you’re trying to set it up so that’s it’s nice and touchy.
Thanks for the info! I'll dial it in. I'm pretty sure it's also helping a lot that my new boots are finally breaking in hahah! Cheers.
I ride with the Clake left hand rear brake and it just makes riding fun, no more right foot getting tired and fingertip control of rear wheel. I can still use my foot if I want.
Yeah I might get one of those. I do a bunch of mountain biking as well, so I figure it would be really intuitive. I also am a bit of a cheapo hahah
So why number 143.. is it like when I was younge and single and girls use to text me 143 meaning
I LOVE YOU , just curious I run 131. My daughters birthday 13th.
My stepsons birthday 31st.
My sister is also 31st.

I thought it was head over the number plate or is that just motocross? I usually go pretty far back when going strait in sand.
Mike McKay This is your “default” body position which means this is what you revert to as your main body position. However, you do move around a lot on the bike depending on whether you’re braking, accelerating, cornering, etc. Head over the number plate is when you are accelerating. You move your upper body forwards to reduce the pull on your arms.
@@megs_braap Thank you! Waiting for a clinic in so cal!
How do you fight the feeling of getting thrown off the back of your bike when standing and leaning back?
I slightly dip my toes forward on the pegs, grip with the bike with my legs, and lean my shoulders more forward when accelerating quickly, and I no longer get that feeling
@@katelynolar5574 Just today I started experimenting with riding more on the balls of my feet and dipping my toes forward when accelerating. I was surprised how much difference it made. Sometimes it's the littlest of things that make a big difference.
@@michaelsupple6081 right on! i know right! The smallest things make world of difference! Tame that beast
My problem is shiftning gears while standing its so hard without getting in wrong position?
You may have to raise your shift lever up if you can't get your boot underneath it easily while standing. I had to put mine up 2 notches to get the boot under easier.
@@sweetshot69 okay i will try that thanks
@@Freaki91 Np, still takes alot of practice getting used to it, ive shifted into N more than a few times from first while standing lol. I try and force myself to shift while im up cause its so much easier to sit and shift lol.
@@sweetshot69 yea i can imagine that it would take some time to get used to. Sometimes i feel a weird feeling when standing that i squeze way to much with my hands that im allmost bending the bar lol. And then i get a weird leaning feeling i do not like.
I did everything you said to be wrong lol.
I like the dirty helmet.
I can't change gear like that
So balls of the feet on the pegs? Then you just move the foot when you need to brake/shift?
yes. Megs made a vid on it, or maybe it was Cross Training Enduro). You move your foot to shift, and back to stand. leaving it forward is a good way to snag it on something
A "Don't crash" course.
Butt back, knees bent and elbows straight is the best way to vent my spleen.....
my missus hate it tho, shes only 4' 10" so she gets a faceload
Instruction unclear, my head is on the seat and im walking the air like God intended me to do.
Help..
Yea, if I had to keep my shins straight up and down, my ass would be on the back of the fender, my back would be horizontal and my chin would be on the handlebars and I'm only 6'1". I"ll just stick to being wrong.
cledus snow All I’m trying to say is that you want to try to avoid bringing your knees forwards and setting yourself up in a weak, vulnerable position. Everyone’s body is different and things sometimes need to be tweaked or adjusted a little bit to fit your needs.
Your lid is to big tbh🇬🇧
dammit!!! Where are the beautiful girls over here who rip on dirt bikes. Maybe a couple in So Cal over the past 20 years. But back in New England.. Nope... Cheers Girl. Your Rad!!
You are too far back.
Sorry megers, you are a lil too far back though. Those of us taller than 4' tend to position ourselves so we can see the front of our number plate when in the attack position. When you are that far back and on the pipe, your weight is trying to pull you off the back of the bike and you are using more energy than needed to hold on.
