    Happy Thanksgiving to anyone down in the US!
    I made this tutorial for anyone who isn't quite sure about their body positioning on the dirt bike. Having proper body positioning is critical if you want to take your riding to the next level. This body position will set you up to be able to ride faster with more control and stability. There are so many more details involved with body positioning so if you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments!

    toes pointed in position allows the knees to come together naturally and tightly when in the proper attack position which squeezes the bike without having to actually squeeze the bike. this is the number one position point to reduce arm pump

    Great vid and tips, this is something I need to work on, especially the legs. As a Part 2, could you maybe provide some body position tips for accelerating and braking? Because I’ve struggled with that for a long time. I would get pulled off the back of the bike while standing and accelerating until I learned to lean forward. Just thought. Hey Megs, great tips. Wish I paid more attention to that when I started riding 11 months ago. I video most of my rides but never thought asking someone to video me while riding (usually at McNutt). One thing that’s helped me lately with arm pump is squeezing the bike with my knees (toes in). It just gets tiring and I often forget (too much to think about).

    Could you explain more about foot position? From one side I've been told to cover the break but I have to put pegs under the middle of my foot just before the heel so the joint doesn't work at all.
    From other side if I want to use foot joint then I should put the finger pads to the pegs then I can't touch the break.

      We live in suburbia, cant start our bikes without pissing the neighbours off, but you can work on static balance without the engine running. Static balance skills payoff bigtime when you dont have to take your feet off the pegs through technical sections.

    thanks for this, maybe you can help me a little. When I am in the standing riding position, it always feels like any throttle or brake input causes the bike to lurch away from me. I feel like I don't have a solid grip on the bike, when I hit the throttle it almost pulls out from under me. I also feel somewhat unstable standing. Should I be gripping the tank with my knees or something??

    • @krzysztofrudowicz5985
      @krzysztofrudowicz5985 3 года назад

      A bit late to the party, but what I discovered lately is that when you put yourself in the position Meg shows (butt basically over the rear wheel, hands extended) and swueeze the bike tightly, the pull is barely noticeable.
      I had the same problem before - the pull nearly took the handlebar from my hands - and the change in position helped immensely.
      So, for anyone having this issue - get your butt over the rear wheel, basically until you're pushing againts the pegs. The stability improvement is awesome (and the bike wants to do a wheelie, so be careful) :)

      Most likely because it's not a strong position even if it may feel ok. Your knees can give causing you to bobble and instead of working the trail your working to stay on the bike.

    • @megs_braap
      @megs_braap  5 лет назад

      Craig Steinman Hey Craig,
      Your low seat shouldn’t affect how high your bars sit if you are standing up. You should almost always be standing. 95 percent of the time, standing is ideal. Although the Flexx bars do sit higher than a stock bar would so that might affect it a bit in your standing position. The best you can do is keep the elbows out. They don’t necessarily have to be really high. Just a nice wide stance you know what I mean? This gives you so much more strength and stability. It’s like doing a wide grip push-up vs a close grip/tricep push-up. You have way more strength as you widen your grip because you are now using your chest, back and arms rather than mostly just your arms.

    Question!! Nobody seems to address this, is your brake pedal set up so you don't have to move your foot on the peg at all to brake? The more I ride, the more I'm getting use to it, but my rear braking game is still pretty odd feeling on technical downhill when I really need it but also really need to feel planted. Adjusting it didn't do a whole lot :(

    • @megs_braap
      @megs_braap  5 лет назад

      Riding n Stuff Your rear brake pedal should be set up so that you can pivot your foot to press it down and it engages almost right away. You shouldn’t have to reach way down for it. It needs to be high enough that it’s right there when you need it. When you set it up though, make sure you leave a tiny bit of play (not engaging the brakes before it’s even being pressed). It’s easy to accidentally over adjust it when you’re trying to set it up so that’s it’s nice and touchy.

      @megs_braap  5 лет назад +1

      Mike McKay This is your “default” body position which means this is what you revert to as your main body position. However, you do move around a lot on the bike depending on whether you’re braking, accelerating, cornering, etc. Head over the number plate is when you are accelerating. You move your upper body forwards to reduce the pull on your arms.

      Sorry megers, you are a lil too far back though. Those of us taller than 4' tend to position ourselves so we can see the front of our number plate when in the attack position. When you are that far back and on the pipe, your weight is trying to pull you off the back of the bike and you are using more energy than needed to hold on.
