    What helped me a lot is to focus on balancing my body and not so much the bike... so long as you keep your bodies centerline of gravity constrained with the bikes center. You could at first also try deflating your tires a bit. that makes any errors much more forgiving, although fine tuning your balance should be done with tires inflated to spec. another piece of advice, if you cant do it standing try sitting on your seat when you can sufficiently balance while sitting, go ahead and try slowly rising to your feet all the while keeping equal pressure on the foot pegs. Disclaimer: I am most certainly not a professional and in fact only been doing this for 3 days 30min each but I went from not being able to balance even for a second to balancing for several minutes.

    I practice static balance and riding as slow as I can all the time on my front lawn. I’m pretty sure all my neighbours think I am the slowest dirt biker in history (which may be true).

      Everybody can twist the throttle. Most can't even do U turn with out putting foot down.

    Been doing this 20 minutes a day for 3 weeks now. Best I can manage is about 2-3 seconds of balance before I have to put my foot down on the ground again.

      Try leaning the front wheel against a tree or rock for a crutch until you can slowly balance away from it more and more.

    Haven't ridden in 6 months due to broken and dislocated ankle. Been practicing this in the garage for a few days. Got up to a minute yesterday, then today I was having trouble at 5-10 seconds. 🤔 Was it the beer?
    I did find it easier to get balanced on the seat in the beginning. Like a warm up. Seems like head up, looking out the garage 25 feet helped.

    I am 59, have a 2021 KTM 300 XCW and my balance is shit! As a teenager, I raced MX 250 expert and balance as super. In early 20’s I began racing road bikes (pedal road bikes) and I could stop at a red light…feet strapped in pedals…lean down grab front wheel….wait for light to turn and go…now, I would break my neck in a heartbeat. I am going to start doing this and might be able to put on a sock w/o falling over. 😮🤭😛

    I just now starting to practice slow riding and static stops and man does it make a difference...i forgot who said it but he said "want to be a better rider learn how to ride slow first"..

    I do this on my Harley RoadGlide or my KTM 690 in crawling traffic. It helps the time pass and once a bike cop pulled up next to me wondering what I was doing and laughed about it after I explained.

      That's awesome! No offense, but most Harley riders can barely balance with their feet out! I know, I used to be one! Thank God I found dirt bikes!

    Maybe I can have someone clear up a question for me please?
    When I was learning static balance on a trials bike and now on an enduro bike, something isn't making sense...
    Using the leg as an outrigger... Logically I'd assume that if the bike is falling to right, the left leg would come out to counterbalance... However as soon as my left leg comes off the peg, the bikes falls faster to right because that's where all the weight is? What am I doing wrong?

      Best thing to do is video it. Instant feedback to what's going on. But I have the feeling that the problem is when your left leg comes off, your upper body leans right making it worse. If you are falling to the right try taking your right leg off and allow your upper body to move left......Video will tell the truth!

      @@PrimalEnduro thanks... That's a great idea... I'll video it, but I think you are right... After watching your video again... I did notice that when the outrigger leg comes off peg... There usually is a hip sway to that side as well...
      I am most certainly not doing that...
      Last question... When I learnt on trials bike, I never used peg weighting for balance, instead, slight moves of the bars between centre and locked was enough to balance... Any reason why I don't see anyone using that technique?

      @@claudiomartins3595 I've seen Ryan Young teach the way you describe on trials bikes. Possibly just multiple ways to achieve the same thing, or perhaps the difference in technique on the much lighter trials bike. I tend to think the purpose of static balance is to teach the technique in the hardest possible situation...(stationary with no momentum) to keep you up. As we move on and apply the technique while moving....say riding down a log, it may not be conducive to moving the bars?

    Excellent. Balance and finding the rear brake when I need it are 2 of the hardest things for me. Timing comes in very close.... Had to get a trials bike for the penny to drop. I practice motogymkhana on my road bikes and it's astonishing what happens when foot peg control and brake control start to happen. On the money again Primal.

    Question: I'm an old geezer like most of your students. I only began riding motorcycles in last few years. Presently I have a klr650 and tw200. I'd like a moto-cross like in the video...question is: would you recommend starting with a beat up 125 for my initial practicing of wheelies and such? (i'm 5'6" and 145lbs) Or should I get my "dream" for starters? Orrr...just practice on my tw and once i got "tricks" down, get a motocross bike proper?

      The KLR is great for what it is which is a dual sport bike and it's probably better left as such. The TW200 is also great for what it is, but even it's not really sure what it is? At your height the TW is probably good for learning the basic skills and is quite friendly in the power and seat height dept. If you want to really get good then see if you can find a used trials bike. As far as full size enduro bikes for beginners, I can't recommend the Beta X-trainer enough!

    I push my front wheel into the middle of an old atv tire to practice static balancing in my garage. Don't use too fat a tire though, or there won't be much challenge in it. Then I put my iPad on a shelf in front of the bike and watch RUclips videos.

    I tried this for the 1st time last night in my garage since I can't tear up my yard. I couldn't manage to get up for more than a split 2nd or less. Is is that normal or am I just that awful

      Totally normal, flat concrete is extremely difficult. let all the air out of your tires, or see my recent video on static balancing using old tires as cheaters to get going!

      of course, two wheeled balance is two wheeled balance, but the point is to balance a full size enduro bike.

      Mainly because it teaches you to balance in the hardest possible condition (stopped). That balance will transfer over big time when moving!

    Tim’s bikes doesn’t look like it’s has a lot of static sag compared to some of the guys there. Some of the bikes look bottomed out

      technically, I don't think you need to be at full lock. Just turned enough to hold the bike.

      Go ride in deep sand with a two stroke, get back with us. 2 strokes have their benefits as do 4 strokes. Knowing that only makes you that much wiser. Ever watch a 2hr hard enduro in deep sand ? What always wins ? Yup 4t all the time. Now steep technical vertical climbs, 2t wins all the time. I own both and have been riding both for 35yrs+.
