Unbeknownst to me I was doing this almost every day in traffic trying to find out how slow can I go without my feet touching the ground. Never knew this was a thing. I also started doing footless stops after watching Zack Courts doing them in the Daily Rider videos. It isn't hard, it's all about practice and getting used to the bike you're riding. Hey man, thanks for the all the useful videos, that takes a lot of dedication. Keep it up!
Ah, this reminds me of the "ippon bashi" test in Japan. "Relax and go slower!" says the instructor, as you try to cross this small bridge as slow as possible.
One eco-friendly exercise they make you practice if you can't get a handle on the motorcycle on that particular test:
1 - Park the bike in 1st gear against a wall (front wheel pressing against the wall)
2 - Pull the side stand up
3 - Seat on the bike, proper knee grip, try to keep your lower body as still as possible
4 - Look ahead, not down
5 - With small movements, PUSH on the handlebars to keep balance, do not PULL (since this affects your upper body more, making it more difficulty)
At first you struggle, using lots of strength to keep the bike straight, but as the body position and movement comes together, you will find yourself just barely wiggling the handlebars to keep balance. I know, I failed 3 times at this exact thing LOL

I adjusted the clutch lever because it was way firm and difficult for me to operate it. Did uturn practice but was getting frustrated because my grip strength was less and less every turn. I'm noticing that I'm coasting into the start of my uturns and should really be getting used to revving and feeling the friction zone. Frig I know I was killing it last year but my grip wasn't as weak as it is now. It's more challenging and interesting to me doing the slow speed stuff than doing highway slogs just cruising. Good video man. ✌🙏

    • @MotoJitsu
      @MotoJitsu  3 года назад +1

How hard you're gripping should be absolutely minimal, just enough to keep control of the bike, not excessive. It's like holding onto a potato chip and not breaking it.

Track stands in my vernacular. I use a brake to lock up the front wheel while applying pedal power to the rear. Don't really need to rock the handlebars much (usually just sort of lock them up as if in a sharp left hand turn) as it is more a balance of the interactions of pressures between the wheels. Haven't pulled it off on the motorcycle yet but I can sit for a short time at less than 1 mph when necessary. Usually annoys car drivers as they seem to think I'm not stopped unless my foot goes down. Gets to be a stand off.

In bicycle track racing they do what's called a track stand, which is balancing at a standstill. They do it while standing to make it easier, and their bikes have no brakes and their gears won't turn independent of the pedals so they just push back and forth on the pedals to do it. When riding in cleats, your feet are locked to the pedals and I often use a track stand to stop at a light without releasing my cleats.

It is impressive to cagers that you do not put your feet down. You see them watching you. Then also in the dirt is is great to practice slow go in your line to change direction whenever you want. As always, it is a forever thing to practice. I love free riding in dirt and slab but its fun just to practice skills to keep and increase your skill, as it IS perishable. @@MotoJitsu Yes you're correct they don't require you to balance at zero, but the instructor said I was having trouble balancing the bike and he did not feel comfortable letting me continue the course. He asked me the last time I rode a bicycle. I told him over 35 years ago. He said that's the problem. Boom, I was done.

Yup, if you can't balance and are close to always dropping it or hurting yourself or someone else, can't ride the path of travel, keep a safe distance between yourself and someone else, I'd drop you too.
Go ride a bicycle for a while before going back, you'll learn a lot.

I love pulling up to a stoplight and balancing (I have a 2020 Vitpilen 401 that's really light). I've had motorcycles since I was 12 (sweet Suzuki RM 80) and bikes obviously longer and it's always been a little thing I do to challenge myself.

I do this at nearly every redlight & stopsign with my work e-bike, because it's annoying to put a foot down, and it's one of those fun things I do during my delivery job. I think this would be a lot easier to do & practice with an electric motorcycle.
Instant torque, no clutch, no overheating, no noise to attract unwanted people, and the rear brake can be the left hand lever.

Short riders skill right there. I have to slide my butt to tiptoe one foot down. I learned to no-foot down stop at stop signs where there is very little traffic just to take some of the work out of riding. The upside is that it really sharpens your balancing skills and that can help your overall riding.

yeap the game of trying to not feet down before the green light, i do it here and there and i can keep the bike to 0km while moving super slow, but i last 1 seconds on a full stop before i lose all balance and have to readjust, i just use the clutch and throttle but gonna try with the rear brake as you suggest, thanks ^^

I have literally been doing this for years. Coming to a full stop at stop signs and then going again. Even the exact thing you mentioned in the video which is I stop a little short before a red light to see if I can make it all the way through to the green light inching forward. I had no idea other people did this. LoL. I just thought it was my weird brain that did silly random stuff like this.

The next level is seeing how little you can lurch forward to settle into the next stall. Every time you get a good stall, you fly out of it once the bike finally starts to drop to the other side. If you can anticipate when the bike is going to fall over to the other side and steer into it before it does, you can go right into stalling in the other direction instead of having to clutch out of it. I've been able to able to make the length of a parking space last longer than a minute, albeit on a klx 300 which is basically a bmx bike

Not a fan of kawasaki but that is one good looking bike. What we have in the philippines is the z900rs that looks like a retro cafe bike and a z1000r which is the 1043cc naked which is ugly and heavy. That z900 is perfect looks and performance wise.

It’s a hell of a lot easier on a BMW R1200GS, a LOT easier. I can do feet up lock to lock on the Bm, no problem, but on a Honda, it was nearly imporssible, the weight was too high up!. Good luck, the slow ride techniques are for the true professionals. Any idiot can drive fast, but these slow manoevers sort the boys out from the men. But again, the lower the centre of gravity on your bike, the Easier they are to makeover, and a GS is quite a big bike, but is so perfectly balanced, you can crawl at half the speed of the man in this video. Nice lessons. Thank you.
