Incredible. I've watched a zillion "how to wheelie" vids, and not a single one said to compress both the front and rear suspension equally. And not a single one explained why so often my wheelies result in so much rear wheel spin and so little front wheel loft. This was really great -- totally makes sense what I've been doing wrong. And the slo mo was perfect. Huge thanks, Megs.
Awesome! I'm stoked I was able to help! I struggled with wheelies for a long long time. When I made this video, my goal was to break it all down in a way that everyone could easily understand and safely practice!
Was gonna say the same thing! Sooo many vids, but this is first to show compression of both...and no clutch = Brilliant!! I'm determined to learn the 12 o'clock...cuz it's crazy cool ;) Appreciate the great tip. Will be watching more vids for sure. Thx!...from a Colorado Canadian
Nr 1 on my bucket list is to learn how to wheelie. Didn't dare doing it on my KTM 1190 Adv R. Recently I own a 450 EXC but I can't get the front wheel to move the way it should. Looked for more wheelie videos but somehow I was missing the point. This video is extremely detailed in the way the wheelie got to be executed. Filmed spot on and the tutorial by Megs is until now the best I saw on the Internet. The wheelie is still on my bucket list, I'm a 59 year old novice with a dirt bike so it will take some time. I will get there thanks to Megs !
I am a long time rider, started at 11 years old and 52 now. This is the best explanation I have seen to date. Not saying this was the best, it's the best I have witnessed. gonna give it a whirl tomorrow. Thanks for taking the time to make a simple, easy to understand & relate to video .
So true about making sure that rear brake is second nature. I went through about 6 rear fenders before it became second nature to me LOL. Fantastic video Meg's!
Thanks soooo much Meg! I love it when a how to video actually shows you how to do something right away without having to sit through unrelated babble and so called funny clips. You're an excellent instructor and this video proves it! 5 Stars !
you are one of the best teachers of anything, period. your vids should be required watching for anyone wanting to become a teacher of any subject. the way you describe the steps, and the language you use are concise and perfectly get your point across. thank you!
Glad I stumbled across this. No doubt the best description and demonstration of basic wheelies Ive seen. Thinking about compressing both wheels evenly has made a huge difference to my low speed control. I always needed some pace and plenty of space before. Its makes so much sense now. Your other coaching videos seem like they are as articulate and helpful as well. Cheers Paul
You are an amazing young lady! I am 66 and have been riding most of my life.Your explanations are very clear and concise. Better than most! Keep up the good work and stay safe!
Best wheelie vid ever. I ride trials and if you do not have these fundamental skills and understanding you taste dirt. Again, brilliant video, puts the clutchers to shame. Oh, I meant to comment on a previous vid but it applies to this one. Paint stripes on a tree as a target for the front wheel. Adds a whole load of control and you learn pop turns for free.
One of the best Wheelie vids on Utube. Just when I thought I knew it all, Meg taught me something else. I just had my one an only loop over with a 2019 300xc. It flipped so fast I didn't have time to do anything but laugh while picking myself up from the ground, then turned off bike, then picked up my seat an rear fender that were ripped right off an waved them at my friends who were also laughing as they shook their heads in disbelief. Thank God for gorilla tape, it saved the day. Then JB wielded it when I got home. Just like new..Lol I learned wheelie sitting on seat of a 450 excf using just power of the bike over technique. The same technique put me right on my butt on the two stroke. Will practice more like you suggest without clutch. Thanks.
This is the best video detailing the timing of compression and launch point. Another video detailed that a great way to start getting back brake habit, is to ride as slowly as you can, modulating throttle, clutch, and rear brake -- and then end every wheely with rear brake.
AWESOME AND CONCISE INSTRUCTIONS! My wife and son could not pop their front wheel up before watching your video -- now they're small controlled wheelie freaks! Mahalo and aloha!🌺
Best wheelie video I have ever seen, I have tried many times but had super inconsistent results but with this technique it like clockwork, thank you for the video.
That means a lot! I'm so glad I was able to break it down in a way that makes sense! I know it's a really tough skill to learn if you're out there just trying to use throttle.
Great! This was the most comprehensive video about practical wheelie ever! You really nailed the presentation. I recommend doing this practice on regular basis. Not only when it needs to be done on the trail.
Fantastic video. Thought I knew how to do this properly but learned something new today (compress evenly). I'll be practicing this weekend. Hope to see more of these!
Just one word "Awesome " I have no training but I'll try baby steps watching your video. I'll have to watch your video again and again before practically trying it out myself. Thanks once again ! I'll first start with popping the clutch. I just watch your video on popping the clutch. I always wanted to learn a wheelie.
Megs Thanks to you. Your standing wheelie video works for me today on the 300xc. I got it going on. I have been riding a gsx 1300 with street habits. Thanks for getting me out of the saddle with my new fun toy. Snow-skiing is my passion here and Austria. To expensive now. This is my new pair of skis now. In the dirt with a JDJetting kit and new seal block gasket making this bike braap. Thanks again.
Thank YOU! I've seen so many tutorials which insist on popping the clutch but I've always felt that it would be much better to get applied traction as I aim to lift the front. Keep up with these videos please Megs BRAAAP!!!
Such a masterpiece in less than 5 mins for us noobs. She covered everything that u either don't know or realise but keep doing wrong... Compressing only the front, then going too far back and then leveraging the clutch to assist to cover for faulty technique
Excellent video. Clear instructions and why we are doing it. I'm confident I'll be able to do a wheelie. Watched many others but yours was the only that said to compress both suspensions and the purpose of it. Thanks
Im about to start learning to wheelie my dirtbike next month (Only got it this month). Ive been road / track riding for 7 years so the world of dirt is super scary to me haha. Great video :D
At 2:15 your completely compressed here. This is when you give a blip of throttle too I can see... My question here is when you do give a blip of throttle... You give it AND return the throttle back to close out power surge to rear tire quickly? Is it a quick 1/4 + or = twist of throttle and quick return of throttle to get the front to come up just in that moment of compressed ...to... / decompressing? The "returning the Throttle" is what I am getting at really in this thread. You demonstrated perfectly the sound of the two stroke under the power band obviously here. Very little juice needed. Great! Thanxs
Wow and thanks.Update: Tried 2nd Trip: 5 half mile dirt road runs with about 25 tries each run. Last run had timing so 14 times were good, 7 times too late on gas. Tried your way for almost two hours today on a dirt road with good progress on 250 4 stroke. Much better than clutch release and throttle for first learning. Later today I enjoyed riding across culvert road bumps and compressing susp. before the same "throttle on" timing and what do you know, my front wheel was "launching" some off each rise in the dirt road. I'm a 60 yr. old road rider for 40 years with 6 yrs off road, mostly 30 or so days of dual sporting in the Mid Atlantic. Meg you have a gift for teaching.
OMG you are gorgeous. Also, great video explaining this. I've ridden road bikes for years and am just getting into dirt. Your videos are very informative, and much appreciated.
You can also compress the suspension by applying some rear brake/front or both. Slows you down a bit in tight sections and gives you more control over the wheelie. Sometimes slower is better.
Thank you Megs you are a really good coach I tried to practice slow wheelies every time I go out before the ride I have an easy time getting the tire up but I'm having a hard time holding it up there so I can go more than a couple of feet I will keep practicing and one day I will get it thank you for your help love the video
yep! starting to learn now! was doing single track that needed me to pop a wheelie to get over some large rocks and needed my friends help bc I couldnt wheelie lol so now im trying to practice.
One of the best wheelies tutorials I've seen. Having owned a Duke 690R ( big single ) , en now a KTM Adventure bike 1190 Adventure R ( big twin ), I'm used to having the engine brake to get me down if I go too high. Definitely the wrong technique, but it's so hard to practice the correct way now with this big bike. You have always in you mind that's it's a heavy and expensive bike to leave your comfort zone. It's become muscle memory and I'm pretty good at it , I never use the foot brake, just mastered the throttle... ( on the pavement ). When I practice wheelies on my MTB it has become obvious I've been doing it soo wrong al those years :)
All this time I have been trying to load the front forks only and it’s incorrect. All the wheelie tutorials on RUclips nobody mentioned loading the suspension evenly. Thanks megs, I am gonna give that a try on the weekend! Cheers!
If you’re afraid of looping ,try it all in 2nd gear The first time around trying this you don’t have to bring the wheel up all the way in the air, getting the wheel to lift just a foot is an excellent first step. Getting the wheel to lift *reliably* is really the most important outcome.

THATS WHAT I WAS DOING WRONG! Thank you! I was just trying this out this morning and couldn't get it. I was leaning too forward. Gonna try again tomorrow! Thanks!
After watching a bunch of videos, I was able to pop the wheel of my crf250f up with the clutch, but only on asphalt. In dirt the rear simply spins the power away. I'll try this. Maybe practice the compression stuff as step 1 first until comfortable with it.
Timing as Meg mentioned is very very important. It means that compression of the forks+ rebound, all the move has to be done under one second. Otherwise front wheel doesn't spring up.
Incredible. I've watched a zillion "how to wheelie" vids, and not a single one said to compress both the front and rear suspension equally. And the slo mo was perfect. Huge thanks, Megs.
lol thats the prob , many can do wheelie , but its hard to teach the proper technique

Thanks a lot!
You are the top 3 best instructors I have seen on RUclips so far. Keep up the good work!!
Thank you!
Wow thanks, what a clear and articulate video, world-class instruction, I can't wait to try this : ]

This is the kind of videos I love. Clear, straight to the point, not much theory but the necessary, and images on do´s and don't´s. WELL DONE!!!
JORGE A Thank you for the great feedback!
Likely the smartest video on how and why to wheelie. Girl, you rock!

really good point about learning without the clutch first! forces you to get the timing right. Excellent video!
Thank you!
A great little video. "Stored Energy"! I love that term. Megs you sound like a physics professor.
Great video, VERY clear and informative. Also, JEEZ what a beautiful vista behind you! What a beautiful place to ride!

I was correct.
