Same issue on my 2001 XLT Ford F150.remove loose torx & put blue lock tite and reinstall bolts. I replaced the easier back bushing. It tighten things up well. Also the shifter handle was sloppy. Pulled pin out &:installed metal shim on top & bottom and reinstalled pin thru shift handle. My truck has 165,000 miles. It's a 4.6L. I would say it's 90% better. I hope this helps some one.

I found the bolt on the floor by my feet. Truck was barely shifting. I used an Allen wrench instead of star head to tighten both back up. Now it shifts like new!

Your video saved me! I went on an errand today and on the way home I heard something fall onto my floor mat. At a stoplight, I found the errant bolt (snub end; torx bolt; NEVER SAW ONE LIKE THIS BEFORE). I pull into my driveway and the truck won't shift into Park...in fact, Reverse feels like Park now but the truck is in Reverse. I try vainly to get it into Park...and put the E-brake on (it works?!!) to put some bricks under the tires. That's not going anywhere. 😁 Next, I crawl under the truck and inspect the shift linkage...all looks fine. BUMMER! Time to go on RUclips. I found your video, saw the errant bolt (looks just like the one I found on the floormat) and about 5 mins later, I had it back in, BOTH tightened, and she shifts like she's brand new (2001 F350 ExCab Dually 4x4 Longbed). SAVED!!! Thanks SO much...

@@stitchthisditchthat259 it's kind of hard to explain. If you get under the truck and have someone move the gear selector, you under the truck watching the the gear selector cable, you might see that the sheeth is moving back and forth. How did I fix it? Temporarily it's fixed with the Red Neck cure, bailing wire. Wrapped around the sheeth and then to the bracket that holds the sheeth. As long as that cable sheeth moves back and forth, your not gonna be able to shift the tranny as needed.
