Mother Father live in Houston is a must listen. Steve says it is the hardest song for him to sing live. And he recorded the song in one take for the album. Unbelievable! 🎶
Mother Father is one of my favorite songs by them. And I never heard it until about 1999. In my defense, I think the album it was on came out before I was born, or at least when I was very, very little!
I went to this tour in Hartford Connecticut, and used to go to an average of 12 or 13 shows a year in those days (mid 80’s through late 90’s). Since that time I have been working at 2 of our Country’s most famous music venues in Tennessee and have witnessed many many concerts. This show still ranks in the top 3 greatest my whole life!
Nothing like the voice of Steve Perry live. So special! A great song. Miss this era of music. Ross Valory was Journey's bassist and split with the band suddenly in 1985/86. Journey brought in Randy Jackson to play bass on the record RAISED ON RADIO and tour with them. Randy had played bass for Jerry Garcia (Grateful Dead) and Carlos Santana earlier and was known to be an exceptional bass player in the music industry. He has some street cred even through he is mostly known for American Idol. He has played music for Bob Dylan, Elton John, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Keith Richards and countless others. Keep the Journey going!
You guys really need to listen to the song Mother, Father live in Houston from their 1981 escape tour. It’s a great song that really had not enough play time on the radio. It’s a banger! One of my favorite Journey tracks. I know you guys will love it. Especially Amber!
Steve Perry is on many a short list of greatest R&R lead singers. His voice is a gift. I love the part if this song near the end where the band background sings "Ooooh there's a fire in his eyes for you." A fine bit of harmony. Perry grew up in small town Hanford, CA, just down the highway from where I live. He's never forgotten his roots and I heard he took a lengthy sabbatical to care for his mom as she died. I've met folks who went to school with him. He is much respected. Blessings ❤
What a great performance! Not every singer can hit such notes for an entire live concert. Usually there are some changes here and there to the scale for live shows in order to keep it going. Performing is like playing sports, but in football/soccer for example, they can opt for a substitution. 😊 I'm suggesting "Don't Stop Believin'" for your next Journey journey.
OK Top 5 Journey 1) Stone in Love 2) Dixie Highway 3) Any Way You Want It 4) Girl Can't Help It 5) Feeling That Way/Anytime. I'd love to hear your thoughts on Journey's top 5 tunes. Wait. What about Only The Young? Where do I put that?
I’ve been a Journey fan for a long time and they are absolutely one of the best bands of all times. I’ve got a request for you to react to another Steve Perry solo song. It was a hit a long time back of course, but it’s a rocking song not a ballad. It’s called You Better Wait. You will enjoy it, I promise.
Wife and I saw this concert tour on one of our first dates in September 1986 in Indianapolis. She still says this was her favorite concert. The first time I saw American Idol, I recognized Randy Jackson as the bass player from Journey when we saw them.
I jumped aboard the whole reaction video train going on 4 years now. I have followed just a few channels here and There and as it has happened to you two like the others I used to follow people start recommending bottom of the barrel fodder songs. These songs are not popular for a reason. Even the bands know there all not hits just filler music to fill up an album. So it has been a couple of weeks now since I have checked out the tunes and man the request have been horrible. We need to pick up our game people and find some good music to keep this channel going. I enjoy this channel alot it's my go to. Love how they really enjoy the music and get excited over new songs and bands . Pure joy the same way I did when I discovered most of these songs in my younger days. So guys keep rockin and keep the faith. 🤘🏻💯🔥
I was fortunate enough to see journey 6 times, this Raised on Radio tour being one of them. It was at the Meadowlands/ giants stadium in New Jersey. This brings back so many great memories.
Watch out for a Younger Randy Jackson, from the early days of American Idol, with his very high 'fro, playing Bass guitar! I saw Journey on this tour, great show, but then again, Journey Always puts on a Great show!
A while back I tallied up the number of "national" rock bands (i.e. not local cover or tribute bands) I've seen perform live, and the number was over 90. I've maintained since the first time I saw Journey in 1981 that Steve Perry is the greatest rock lead vocalist I've ever seen. The purity and power of his voice during his prime, especially in the upper register, is like nothing I've ever heard. I also want to put in a plug for Journey's lead guitarist Neal Schon, one of the best and most underrated guitarists in the rock genre! So glad you guys have developed an appreciation for this band! A couple other Journey songs you and your audience would really enjoy from the mid 80s are Only the Young, and Be Good to Yourself. Please check these out when you have a chance! 🙂
I was watching one of your older reactions where you brought up block parties and it brought to mind Rod Stewart’s “The Motown Song”. You will love it.
You're right, Jay. Studio version is iconic Perry vocals. You'll love it. If you want more Perry 🔥 vocals check out Only the Young, Ask the Lonely, Be Good to Yourself. 🏆🎶
@PerrySteve Thank you for responding Mr. Perry. Shortly after graduation I moved out to San Francisco, California and resided there for almost 10 years.
Good job, Amber! I usually have to point out Randy to everyone. Randy played bass on "After the Fall" from their album Frontiers, played bass all but 3 songs on Raised on Radio, and was the bassist from their newest album Freedom released in 2022. The next song HAS to be "Mother, Father" from Live in Houston 1981 Escape Tour. It is literally the best Journey performance of all time!!!
When was Randy Jackson in Journey? He was even a temporary member of the 80s rock band Journey in 1983 and 1986. Jackson also recorded and toured with such well-known artists as Mariah Carey, Bruce Springsteen and Madonna. Working behind the scenes, Jackson spent years as as a record producer and an executive with Columbia Records and MCA Records. wiki...
But you're not one state Perry. If Steve sings backup, I had to have brother. That's out birth of the chop turning the front how you've got to Bay. Yeah it happened anytime I n y taya m a by the group journey
This is one of their greatest songs; so pleased you got around to listening to it! Here's the studio version: ruclips.net/video/WHYu2jBrVCQ/видео.html Yes, Randy Jackson was a member of Journey for a while back in the 80s and actually rejoined them a few years ago.
Hey guys, I’ve been digging your reactions and loved watching you discover journey. You have not reacted to “older” and “solo” Steve, so I suggest the song “somewhere there’s hope” from his album titled “for the love of strange medicine”. Enjoy it and I hope to see your reaction!
Yep thats Randy Jackson. Cant go wrong with Journey. Im glad you finally got to this after a year request but i know you have a lot if subscriber's. Here's a new band for ya Kyetto ( Forever Young ) offical video. A 80s band.
Steve Perry, the lead singer of Journey during their heyday in the '80s, had (has?) one of the strongest and most distinctive voices in rock 'n roll. Only one voice during this era was, in my opinion, stronger and more distinctive, and that was the voice of John Waite. His biggest solo hit was "Missing You." (You may have already listened to it here.) But I think his best work came when he was the lead singer of a group called The Babys. Check him out on "Every Time I Think Of You" ruclips.net/video/LvvGgqV6SGo/видео.htmlsi=kosFBaPPNiW8TFt_ and on "Isn't It Time" ruclips.net/video/s-c8X52Qg4o/видео.htmlsi=1-TVUYuZY28m6Hor And here's a phenomenal live performance by The Babys from 2019 (I had no idea they'd gotten back together for this), where they just NAILED it: ruclips.net/video/Z0HOX4fl1dw/видео.htmlsi=53lGaHpGGZy_wnSS Those are two of the greatest, if unheralded, songs of the late '70s era of rock 'n roll. I still get chills listening to them. And for me, John Waite's vocals (and those GREAT background singers) make them all-time classics. Oh, and a third Babys classic, perhaps worth your attention is "Back On My Feet Again." I'd rank it a distant third, but still good: ruclips.net/video/A39kPkfLq7Y/видео.htmlsi=qKf23gvUtA7UkOgW
You should also check out the song by journey “when you love a woman”. I think Amber will really like it. You are correct it is Randy Jackson playing bass guitar.
Great song!! I just saw Randy Jackson playing bass behind Mariah Carey in the song ‘Can’t Let Go’…Live on Saturday Night Live! Please review that one!!
Awesome!!! Journey never disapointed! Some sugestions for you guys: Journey - Higher Place (without Steve Perry) Journey - Message Of Love Other bands sugestions: Winger - Down Incognito Winger - Proud Desperado Toto - I´ll Supply The Love Grand Funk -Railroad - I´ Come Tumblin Skid Row - Time Bomb (without Sebastian Bach) Cheers From Brazil!!! ;-)
I knew a guy that got Randy Jackson’s autograph on a Samurai sword because that’s all he had on him at the time…..and you’re not gonna NOT get Randy Jackson’s autograph! I remember it was him, Sloan, and Johnny….
You havent touched their beat yet: Who's crying now, Mother, father, Lights and Anyway you want it....all bangers. Do the live versions from Houston and the "Lights" from Japan
And it’s The Dawg himself on bass- American Idol’s Randy Jackson- he played bass for them for a couple of years. ❤❤
I didn't know that until Amber said it. Now I havve to watch the video again...I know him from A Idol
Wooof wooof wooof
Steve wanted Randy Jackson on bass and booted out Ross Vallory for a second. Good for Amber spotting him because he was a lot heavier back then
I love Randy! So cool he was with them…I loved him on American Idol. His jacket is so dope🤘
Wow, how cool.
Mother Father live in Houston is a must listen. Steve says it is the hardest song for him to sing live. And he recorded the song in one take for the album. Unbelievable! 🎶

Love that song
THAT is one of the BEST live Vocals EVER!!
Steve had one of the most iconic, powerful, beautiful, effortless voices in history.
No, not "one of the most", His voice is the greatest ever.
@@Robsan40 I would include in that list: Karen Carpenter, Freddie Mercury, and Ann Wilson.
You said it one of the most effortless voices ever.
@@lindamcnamara7803 Correct. It comes comes out of him, seemingly without effort.
@@oldnerdreviews that's hall of fame right there.
Yes, that's Randy. He and Bob Glaub shared duties on the album, but Randy toured with them.
Great reaction to Journey at their absolute peak, this was their time, their moment in time and we were all grateful to be along for the ride. ✌️
Glad you got back to the man with the voice, Journey is such a great band. His voice makes my heart melt 🫠
And this is the live version - it's even better than the studio version.
This is. by far. my favorite Journey song! I can't say I like the live version as much as the recorded one, but Steve Perry's voice is always golden!
Nothing like the voice of Steve Perry live. So special! A great song. Miss this era of music. Ross Valory was Journey's bassist and split with the band suddenly in 1985/86. One of my favorites from that album! Harmonies really sound good on the studio version. React to "Lights" or "Stone In Love" next. Thanks. 😎
Yes! Stone in Love please
Absolutely they should react to Stone In Love!
YES! Journey has so many good ones, and this one is in the top 5.
OK Top 5 Journey
1) Stone in Love 2) Dixie Highway 3) Any Way You Want It 4) Girl Can't Help It 5) Feeling That Way/Anytime. I'd love to hear your thoughts on Journey's top 5 tunes. Wait. What about Only The Young? Where do I put that?

Also Amber I am so proud of you. Randy Jackson. I forgot about him being in Journey. I use to watch American Idol religiously
Man!! You two brought back some memories for me….when we traveled, when i was a kid, we would listen to this album …good times
Talent at its best!
This video is 100 percent live. Journey and Perry sound better live than in studio
Good eye Amber noticing Randy Jackson. You may be the first. You are such a Queen. 👸🏽 ❤
Stone In Love…. another great song. The live version is dope!
I was at that concert. Mountain Aire '86. Great memories.
In my Top three Journey songs for sure. Wayyy underrated
Next Journey song should be: Why Can’t This Night Go On Forever? Steve Perry doing what he does! It’s amazing.
I love it I was at this concert Mountain Air 1986 Angels Camp CA IT was by far the best concert I’ve ever seen thanks Jay and Amber

studio album off the charts vocals
Yes, that's Randy Jackson playing the bass.
That’s Randy Jackson on base!
I think you would enjoy "Feeling that Way-Anytime".
Randy Jackson was a MTV DJ before American Idol 👏🎸

All right my babies....The Raised on Radio album is one of my all-time favorites from beginning to end. Most excellent reaction ‼️😁👍🏼
@PerrySteve Thank you for responding Mr. Perry. Shortly after graduation I moved out to San Francisco, California and resided there for almost 10 years.
@PerrySteve and I watch the streams from Southwest Michigan
Whose Crying now
Don't Stop Believin' Is my favorites
At this point Journey was Steve, Neal, and Jonathan. The touring group were session musicians, though Randy did play on most album tracks
You mentioned loving when Steve Perry holds a note.... check out Troubled Child from the Frontiers album. Great song!!

Journey Stone in Love
I think what he does live is more impressive than studio
That is THE Randy Jackson on bass.
Did you know Neil Schon was with Santana early in his career. Also , with him was Greg Rolle keyboards, and Ross Valory Bass.
Yes that's randy jackson
Steve Perry. What more can u say. Lol. He's incredible

Have you done a reaction to Mother/Father live from Houston 81, or Lights/Stay Awhile live from Japan? Awesomeness from Journey.
This is one of their greatest songs; so pleased you got around to listening to it! Here's the studio version: ruclips.net/video/WHYu2jBrVCQ/видео.html
Yes, Randy Jackson was a member of Journey for a while back in the 80s and actually rejoined them a few years ago.
They will never be anything close to Journey at their prime. 😊❤
I have seen them live many times ⏲️
1981 mother father in Houston will blow you away
Steve Perry 's voice is great!
I bet these two know who Randy Jackson from American Idol is but they have no idea that's him playing bass for Journey!!!
thats Randy Jckson from American Idol on bass long b4 American Idol of course
FYI guys. Nearly all 60s-80s musicians are best live. Play the “lives!” We we’re all about the affordable concerts. Many icons!!!!
This is better than the studio version imo.
Hey guys, I’ve been digging your reactions and loved watching you discover journey. You have not reacted to “older” and “solo” Steve, so I suggest the song “somewhere there’s hope” from his album titled “for the love of strange medicine”. Enjoy it and I hope to see your reaction!
My only thought is that you really have to hear the studio version (like you said) for those harmonies.
Yep thats Randy Jackson. Cant go wrong with Journey. Im glad you finally got to this after a year request but i know you have a lot if subscriber's. Here's a new band for ya

1986, their peak w/ Steve Perry. Go buy their greatest hits cd for some serious music.
underrated song
Please please please check out Mother Father live in Houston the vocal acrobatics are incredible!
I think you would get a kick out of Green Jelly"3 Little Pigs" song always cracks me up.
Shalamar Dancing in the Sheets!
yassssss. ❤❤❤❤
Rabdy Jackson WAS a member of the Jackson 5, bet that
There is a Randy Jackson in the Jackson family, but it’s not this Randy Jackson. This is the American Idol judge, who is a really good bass player.
Steve Perry trained to be a opera singer long before he joined Journey.
Ms. Amber: if y’all really dig on Randy Jackson, check out his bass solo on Jean-Luc Ponty’s Rythms of Hope from the Mystical Adventures album.
Great song!! I just saw Randy Jackson playing bass behind Mariah Carey in the song ‘Can’t Let Go’…Live on Saturday Night Live! Please review that one!!
I was about to ask if they caught Randy Jackson playing bass lol
Get the CD "Raised On Radio" by them. It won't disappoint.
Awesome!!! Journey never disapointed!

This album was pretty much it for Journey , they didnt do much after this tour Steve departed for good. Robbed us all of decades of great music.

I think they’ve already reacted to that one!
@@cjkent88They did, but it was the studio version not live.
I love that song... and also "ONLY THE YOUNG" ❤
That was the next song they were going to play at the concert in the video. It is starting at the end as their next song.
